Description
A Better Rookie for Long War 2(LITE)
Lightly Buffed soldier and other player types' abilities, characteristics, growth, and more.

Commander we know you have been away and before you start thinking that we spent all of our time scavenging wind turbines to build our flying cave base we wanted you to know that we have been dabbling a bit with bioengineering.

Our rookies come from the solid stock of our orginal XCOM gene-modified and psi-trained soldiers and then trained up and made ready for the day you returned to once again wage war against alien forces.

This mod, created in the same vein as "A Better Start" starts your rookies out with more mobility, HP, offense (aim), defense, and WILL (they have the WILL of Gods... no more will PVT. G. PILE piss his pants because he got shot at after stepping off the Skyranger). (WILL is bumped up from 0 to 40 which still allows for the chance for PVT PILE to wet himself at the site of blood.)

*This mod works at all gamelevel difficulties.

An LW2 compatible version of "A Better Rookie"

Under The Hood
The changes made span 4 different ini files including the soldier skills, character stats, LW soldier skills, and xp data. As requested this version reigns in the increases to hp, mobility, etc.
  • Character Stats - All of your men, women, and sparks have greater health (+1 to +2), mobility (+2 to +3), offense, defense, WILL (set to 40), crit, etc.
  • Soldier Skills - cool-downs and charges have primarily been tweaked so that you can use abilities more often during an engagement. (lite version does not have any 0 cooldowns. cool downs that were 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 are now 1,1,2,2,3,3,4)
  • XP/Rank - the criteria for promotion has been reduced so that you can climb the ranks faster and unlock those awesome perks. (lite version makes allows for faster climbing but not as fast as non-lite version)

DYI Modding
This mod was my attempt to answer the numerous requests to tone down the OP'ness of my original mods. However if I still haven't hit the mark for what some players may want for this mod the following are the instructions to modify this mod and set the stats to the values that work for you.

To change the stats to the characters (soldiers, sparks, central, shen) edit this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\862320796\Config\XComGameData_CharacterStats.ini

To change the stats on the skills and perks edit these files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\862320796\Config\XComGameData_SoldierSkills.ini C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\862320796\Config\XComLW_SoldierSkills.ini

To change the stats to the xp earned and rank requirements edit this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\862320796\Config\XComGameData_XpData.ini

If you are an old pro at editing ini files of your favorite mods and you know the trick on how to make sure your changes survive the mod author's future updates please note that copying this mod's files to your local XCOM game directory it will disable the mod. The reason being that the load order for mods are as follows: core game > DLC > local mods > workshop mods. This means the LW2 workshop mod will get loaded last and override all of your local mods that change the same values. The only way to get around this is to also copy the LW2 mod into your local mods folder...still no guarantees this will work. My advice is to save your changes to a file else where and then just copy them back after any future updates occur.

For nearly a year I've been reduced to playing on an XBOX because I couldn't afford a PC that would run LW2 smoothly. Fixed that this weekend, and I gotta say your mod makes LW2 really bitchin'. Thanks!

i'm guessing this would conflict with second wave?

is there a list of mods that had LW2 compatibility and got WotC updates or due to the timeline appear as though they did since they no longer work or otherwise cause game crash. I am having, its like a ton of bricks it really is. I dont have the skill to do what i am having to do in order to keep My X-COM 2 LW2 working. I have given up on my prior savegames. and (for the thierd time) complete reload of game, all mods, My docs. All of it short going through the windows 10 registry and doing a find and find next search for all files dlls and every possible problem on this machine. I am not fimiliar with win 10 enough to do that. but have relayed it to convey my otherwise Tch ability and Yes this past 2 months have sucked as what Rear is getting at. This Blows. not your fault Scuba steve i wish the rest where as thoughtful

WOTC Compatible versions of my A Better' MODS have been released!!!

A lot of additions were made by WOTC that made upgrading a few of these a bit more tedius.. I'm looking at You, A Better Arsenal!

Thank you all for your patience. In the interest of getting these out ASAP I didn't get to do the full amount of play testing that I would like. Please send me your feedback. (please refrain from commenting that these mods are too OP as that is their intent. That said, if I didn't dile back the LITE versions enough then pass those notes along.)

--- A special thanks to reCLUsive7 for sponsoring this work.

Like what Force2reckon just said, I've gotten a little screwed over due a couple of modders updating the current mod to wotc, instead of setting up another submission for a wotc version and it's godawful to have to deal with. :Skele_serious:

Absolutely, Force2reckon. If I merely update the mods in place they will still get trumped by the DLC. There will be 6 new WOTC compatible versions of my mods in both full OP and lite.

One bit of advice I've seen, don't **update** these mods to WotC, post the new WotC compatible versions as new mods and like, link to them here, because there are still quite a few people using the old stuff and we wouldn't wanna break people saves xD

Also no prob man.
Scuba Steve  [author] 5 Sep, 2017 @ 7:56pm
Of course. I'll be creating a full OP and Lite version of each of the 3 mods.

well if you manage to port it over to wotc, do please a lite version and grats
