OSPREY Beak - Stone Torpedo

OSPREY Collection : All Ships and Printed Items

Description

The Beak Stone Torpedo is currently one of five standard printable items for the Osprey , a mobile mining and production platform intended for a highly immersive survival experience that is convenient, practical, versatile, and multiplayer compatible.

Before use, load this blueprint into OSPREY Printer Projector 5 (only necessary on first use).

How to launch from the Osprey Printer (all controls in Tab 3 of main flight seat):
1. Use Button 2 to scroll to the Beak: Gravity Torpedo
2. Use Button 7 to weld
3. Use Button 7 again to fill with stone (Do not skip this step)
4. Use Camera to aim
5. Use Button 9 to launch

Related Blueprints:
Osprey - Mother Ship
Finch - Utility Ship Combo Pack.
Osprey Printables:
Feather - Relay/Spy Satellite
Egg - Light Armor Decoy
Egg - Heavy Armor Decoy
Talon - Kinetic Gravity Torpedo

I'm quite proud of this little torpedo. It may not look like much, but it offers extreme destruction against stationary targets (penetrates over 100 layers of heavy armor in 10x inventory survival) and is exceedingly easy to use. Scroll to this blueprint in the Osprey's printer to begin. If you have all the necessary components, simply press 7 to begin welding. Once welding is complete, press 7 again to toggle the welders off. This will also cause the connectors to lock, and will cause the TIM script to automatically fill the Beak to maximum capacity with stone. If you are unsure if you have enough stone to fill the torpedo, simply take a look at the overhead display to see a progress bar showing the torpedo's cargo capacity. Since creative mode allows infinite storage, the torpedo is configured to only pull an amount of stone equal to the container's capacity in 10x inventory survival. That way, you don't get ridiculous results in creative (and it won't use your entire stone stockpile on every shot).

After toggling the welders off, simply use hot button 9 to auto launch.

If you weld up the torpedo and don't intend to use it for a while, don't worry. You can scroll through other printer selections, turn the printer off, or even log out and re-load the world. The Osprey will remember your selection and use the appropriate launch sequence when you are ready to launch. Since batteries start with a 20% charge when constructed, you are more than welcome to drain that power from the printed battery and leave the battery completely empty. The auto-launch sequence will re-charge the battery for 1.5 seconds - giving it enough power to activate it's artificial mass blocks. The auto-launch sequence will also trigger a timer on the Beak which will turn the artificial mass blocks off again about 1 second after launch. This allows the Beak to penetrate enemy gravity shields. I have also ensured that you can launch the Beak without any interruption to your own gravity shield.

The only danger to the Beak is if the enemy is protected by both a gravity shield and a large number of turrets. If the turrets destroy the cargo containers, the enemy gravity shield will repel the floating stone. However, I have tested this torpedo against 4 turrets and a powerful gravity shield and still obtained positive results. You can get around larger numbers of turrets by using the printable decoys linked above.

When I finally got this thing working correctly and started testing it on stationary targets, I never actually made a target thick enough that this thing couldn't penetrate it. In the video above, I made a target with 108 stacked layers of heavy armor, and the Beak still penetrated the target easily. I have no idea how many layers you could actually punch through with this thing - if you have a computer that can handle 200+ layers, by all means let me know just how deep this thing can go.

The first time you print this blueprint, you will need to load the Beak blueprint into the projector name OSPREY Printer Projector 5. By default it will be hidden in the terminal, so just click the "show hidden items" icon to reveal it. After that, the scripting will automatically align the projection for a proper weld, and will display a comparison of the components required for the job vs your inventory, courtesy of the script linked below.

The Osprey isn't intended for dogfights, but if you want to absolutely pummel a stationary target from afar (perhaps even from orbit) - the Beak Stone Torpedo fits the bill. With a relatively modest component cost and a devastating payload, I'm confident you'll get your money's worth.

  • Blueprint Component Requirements Script - the-phil
The author was incredibly responsive when asked to update this script. The fact that this thing is under 500 subscribers is an absolute travesty. Go download it right now. Thanks the-phil!
Thank you also to Heisenboy, who wrote the script that was later forked into this one.
  • Easy Automation V2.0 - Coren
Coren deserves piles of respect for this script. I have no coding background and could not have have completed this project without his script. He is above and beyond with responding to questions, and is a pillar of the community. Thanks Coren!
  • Taleden's Inventory Manager - Taleden
This script is extremely powerful, and can do even more paired with Easy Automation. It's great for dedicated servers. Thanks Taleden!
  • Automatic LCDs 2 - MMaster
This script is on every build for a reason - it rocks. This fills in a huge need in the game, and will probably influence how vanilla turns out in the end. Thanks MMaster!

I sincerely hope you will visit the main Osprey workshop page, and please feel free to leave a rating or comment. I hope you enjoy these builds, and thank you for visiting!

could you test it with 1x inventories?

Impressive. Stone weapons are top dog in this game still.
