Update: 10 Jan @ 10:20pm

A whole lot of changes.

The short version:

  • Scandinavian adventurers now take into account landless adventurers.
  • Rollo has been updated, and is now properly playable from the 867 start if you use that game rule.
  • Updates for requirements for landless adventurers and adventurers from court.

The long version:
  • Updated the Scandinavian adventurers to now take advantage of the new landless adventurers. Whenever a war is generated, it’ll preference an AI landless adventurer and use a CB very similar to the ducal invasion CB they already have access to.

  • Adjusted the upper limit of Scandinavian adventurer levy spawns to be more variable, reflecting their personal ability rather than simply capping at 8000 period. It still caps at 8000 when attacking players, though. When assessing the strength of a target’s allies, it ignores vassal allies unless you also have More Interactive Vassals active. The adventurers often have larger hordes, but if they win they only keep half their levies and not all.

  • The HM event which looks for new Scandinavian adventurers to put into the list for the events now also gives an extra chance for AI pool characters and courtiers to become a landless adventurer (if you have the expansion).

  • Changed Rognvald Eysteinsson (in vanilla, the count of Trøndelag) to be more historically accurate. He is the count of Møre rather than Trøndelag (the rulers swap places). Made his three bastard sons adults. Added Ivar as a legitimate son, and made his heir Tore, with Hrolfr now his youngest. He also is married to his mother. These changes are made on game start, so they don’t interfere with any mods that make changes to the Norse character history file (unless it also changes these characters – particularly if they move Rognvald to a different title).

  • Added a new “Who is Rollo?” game rule, allowing you to set Rollo as either the vanilla character who exists at the 867 start (either a landless adventurer, if you have the expansion, or a courtier in Mæri), as the youngest son of Rognvald Eysteinsson, or as a character who will spawn in Denmark in 900 AD. If it’s the vanilla character and you have RICE active, HM will assume you are going to use RICE’s systems for Rollo instead of HM’s.

  • If the game rule for Rollo is set to make him Rognvald Eysteinsson’s son, events will occur to push him on the right path towards becoming a landless adventurer (with the expansion) or a regular Scandinavian adventurer if not. These take into account that you might be playing as his liege – if you do, they’re less restrictive and work on the assumption that you might intend to switch to Rollo once he becomes an adult and landless adventurer.

  • If you’re playing as a landless adventurer Rollo, a decision exists for you to effectively turn yourself into the Scandinavian adventurer equivalent and start an invasion war on the Duchy of Neustria. This can be taken earlier than is historical. An AI Rollo can use this decision, but won’t do it outside of near-historical dates.

  • The events for a king/emperor who offers Neustria to Rollo have been updated, taking into account that it could be a regular Scandinavian adventurer or a landless adventurer attacking, and combining everything into a single event with more variation in the results. Nothing is done to affect a king/emperor who decides to negotiate a settlement with Rollo using the existing vanilla interaction – I figure, if the AI does that on its own, it works just as well as anything in HM to force it.

  • In the HM events for a king/emperor who makes an alliance with Rollo in exchange for fealty and Neustria, it now checks if there’s a young relative (of at least 8 years of age – so earlier than the AI normally does betrothals) who can be married to Rollo in exchange for the alliance. If this occurs, Rollo will automatically end any existing marriage.

  • Made physical changes to Rollo – he’s now a giant beast of a man, as he was reported to be. Again, this is done via event so won’t interfere with any mod that changes his DNA… but it will override those changes (or, rather, will add to them).

  • Updated the Rollo system to take advantage of the fact that he now starts as a landless adventurer, if you have the expansion, and a player might want to play as him from the 867 start.

  • Requirements for all characters to become landless adventurers has been increased, and the values which figure out the chance of an AI character becoming a landless adventurer improved. If the prospective character is female, they need to be even MORE impressive to qualify if they aren’t a combatant. Similarly, characters that spawn in your court for an adventurer inspiration are more likely to be combatants.

  • HM values which evaluate the military strength of opponents to take into account their allies and ignore any allied vassals now do take those vassals into account if you have More Interactive Vassals active.

Update: 23 Dec, 2024 @ 5:19am

  • Amended the triggers which check for game_start_date to allow dates other than 867, so long as they don't apply to specific characters in 867 and still make sense.
  • Fixed the Rurikid casus belli trigger to only apply the ai_boldness checks to AI rulers.
  • Added localization stubs for other languages - everything from the mod will appear in English, but at least you won't be seeing loc reference keys.
