Power Plant and Suspension
Remarkably quiet engine, with rapid acceleration, and is easy to operate.
Hydraulic hand brake is quick and easy.

Multi-fuel capability.
Easy maintenance. Rapid engine repair and change. Batteries stored, all together,
under armor, adjacent to the engine, therefore easy to change and service.
Clear plastic oil reservoirs for easy level checks, etc., even on the road wheel hubs.
Hydraulic track adjusters.

Communications and Crew Arrangements:
Secure communications to Well-laid-out crew stations, especially the drivers. Platoon/troop level.
The internal lights are blue, thus there is no loss of night vision.
Excellent crew seats.
Excellent crewmen’s helmets,
The very effective heater is very comfortable.

General
Smooth. wide, warm back decks Small. low profile. and good to sleep on!

PENALTIES:

Turret, Fire Control, and Armament:
The commander (apparently) cannot lay gunner sight onto the target.
No wiper on the gunner’s sight.
Thermal imaging equipment is poor in comparison to TOGS.
(TOGS is the British thermal sighting system.)
It takes three hours to remove the Thermal Imaging Unit.
High profile, exposed gunner’s sight with large, vulnerable glass area.
The commander has only limited control and checks over the gun and turret. Prone to electrical unreliability, especially in the turret.
Very limited gun control backup system, should the main system
fail, but very good emergency firing gear.
The stub cases left once a round has been fired tend to jam in the breech.
The gun safety shield is not permanently fitted but must be assembled before firing. Short barrel life.

Power Plant and Suspension:
The hand throttle is in the driver’s compartment. inferior to foot-operated controls.
Over-sensitive computer to control the engine. Brakes are, if anything, TOO responsive!
Poor suspension when compared to the excellent system on Challenger.
Very, very thirsty. The ready reckoner used was 2-1/2 gallons to one mile.
No generator engine, short track life.
The rear skirting plate allows mud to build up around the sprocket, thus encouraging a thrown track.

Communications and Crew Arrangements:
Antiquated radio equipment, with old audio gear and only one radio per tank, as a standard kit.
Limited storage space, all exposed to the elements.
No provision to enable the crew to live on the vehicle.
No internal water tank for the crew or boiling vessel.
The heater is located next to the driver - it burns his left arm!

The 2A46 (also called D-81TM) is a 125 mm/L48 smoothbore cannon of Soviet origin used in several main battle tanks. It was designed by OKB-9 (Artillery Plant No. 9) in Yekaterinburg.

It was developed by the Spetstekhnika Design Bureau in Ekaterinburg in the 1960s originally for the T-64 tank. They were subsequently manufactured at Artillery Plant No. 9 in Ekaterinburg and Motovilikha in Perm. Other variations include 2A46M, 2A46M-1, 2A46M-2, 2A46M-4, 2A46M-5, and Ukrainian KBA-3 and Chinese ZPT-98.

The 2A46 can fire armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS), high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT), and high-explosive fragmentation (HEF) projectiles. The ammunition for the 2A46 gun is in two pieces: the projectile is loaded first, followed by a separate propellant charge.

The early versions of the 2A46 suffered from a short barrel life, but this was rectified on the 2A46M-1 version. Depending on the version it offers 510.0 MPa (73,970 psi) or from the 2A46M-1 650.0 MPa (94,270 psi) Pmax chamber pressure.[1]

The Ukrainian KBA-3 guns are based on the 2A46 gun. In addition, the Chinese ZPT-98 is based on 2A46M imported from Russia's T-72 or T-80.[2]

The Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment at Fort Halstead designed a new 120 mm rifled tank gun in 1957. The new gun was deemed to be necessary because the British Army specified engagement ranges greater than those of other armies, for example, 2,000 m (2,200 yd), as specified by the US Army, despite studies at the time that suggested engagement ranges were below those of the US Army requirements in the great majority of cases.[2] The L11 was specifically designed to fit into the turret mountings of the Chieftain tank (FV4201). After firing trials in 1961, the L11 was accepted for service on the Chieftain in 1965 and entered service with the British Army in 1966.

The adoption of a rifled tank gun on the Challenger led to some controversy, and some experts later urged the British Army to retrofit the turret to fit the smoothbore Rheinmetall Rh-120 adopted by the German Leopard 2 and American M1A1 Abrams. This would allow the British to fire 120 mm APFSDS rounds, which were then in use by the Germans and Americans. The British Army argued that modifying the turret would be impractical and that a smoothbore gun could not fire HESH rounds. Polish British tank historian Richard Ogorkiewicz argued that the latter concern was unwarranted. In the mid-1980s, the British Army adopted an "operational emergency" APFSDS round.[3]

During Operation Granby an L11 on a British Army Challenger 1 scored the longest tank-to-tank "kill" in military history when it destroyed an Iraqi T-55 at a range of 4.7 km (2.9 miles) with an L23 "Fin" round.[4][5]

Since its introduction, the L11 has evolved into eight production versions. In June 1976, the development of new ammunition for the L11A5 was begun.

Units are being split into a maneuver element, and a fire team element. So one squad now will consist of two elements:

Changed the values for Colors ndf file for the Otan and Pact colors around line 409 through 433. The values in [ ] brackets are Red, Green, Blue, Alpha values in that order.

- Anything 'OTAN' is the player colors when playing as a NATO nation, and 'OTAN_VERT' relates to the allies colors when playing NATO.
- Anything PACT is when the player plays as a PACT nation, and PACT_ORANGE is the colors for the friendly allied PACT players.

Some design research of the division organization is included for further review as follows:

(a) Prior to 1977, the French Army had consisted only of Brigades, with no Divisional layer of command between Brigades and Corps. This policy was then reversed, with Brigades were redesignated as Divisions. However, as can be seen here, despite repeated tinkering with organizations, there was no corresponding increase in strength to accompany the change in title and these ‘divisions’ were consequently VERY weak, weaker in fact than most NATO Brigades. This situation was partially rectified in the 1984 reorganization, though French ‘divisions’ never amounted to
much more than a Brigade in real terms. Indeed, they reverted to the ‘Brigade’ designation in the 1990s.

(b) There was a shortage of AMX-10P MICVs in the early 1980s. In 1982 it was reported that there were only sufficient vehicles to equip four of the eight Armored Divisions. The remainder would therefore still be using AMX-VCI APCs.

(c) Most divisions had upgraded their SP artillery component to 155mm caliber by the 1980s, though there were some divisions still using SP 105mm pieces.

(d) The AA Platoon formed part of the divisional Artillery Regiment. It is not clear if these guns were simply intended to defend the artillery gun positions, or if they were intended to provide more general AA support to the division.
