Vanilla Events Expanded has this + more, for those interested. Also allows disabling anything, so you can just enable this one if you wish.

Works in 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and the recent 1.4

i can confirm there is a slight problem with this mod, in the way it calculates value..

i have on multiple occasions received wandering caravan event with the animals ALWAYS carrying 200+ beer and (highest noted) 30,000 Gold... this is a mistake perhaps? something to do with NOT having a peak to the amount of wealth it adds, it seems to get worse the more wealth you have, getting 30k gold is not balanced, at the time of playing it tripled my wealth...

first of all, I can confirm this still works, literally had an event happen about two days ago

not gonna lie, good concept, but it's very dissapointing when I have advanced technology, heating n shit, some people armed in power armor, but the animals give like 3 meds, seems the loot needs to be buffed a fair bit

havent had these in 300 hours of play, i think they are not happening. Are there any mods that block these events?

erm, after the update, the event gives the animals but the animals dont contain any loot whatsoever...

@ThePartyGuest No.... The value of 2500 survival meals is over 180 times greater than the probable maximum value of a caravan. Are u sure the caravan had 2500 survival meals in it?

Hey, erm... Would that be possible to make this entire 'Defend Caravan' event a little bit
balanced? Cuz fighting with an 35 elite mercenaries just to get 2 hyperweaves and a single glitterworld medicine is kinda... Ya' know. Not so satisfying at all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This mod only adds events that have no dependencies on any non-vanilla events or state, so I wouldn't see why any other mod that adds events would cause an issue.

Wooties, thanks for the pupdate. It's nice to get occassional free tames or small amounts of good items but it's never enough to really make a big enough difference to be OP :D.

Is this compatible with More Vanilla Events? In my head, they would be fine together. They would just appear to generate the wander in event on their own (you could get either one). I really like the two incidents this one has, especially when I am able to run Hospitality.

Indeed, that mod does have a "Caravan animals wander in" event. However, this mod has two similar, but different wandering caravan animals events. They are not exactly the same as the other mod. For one thing, one of the events involves the caravan animals owners showing up to demand the return of their animals and goods.

It contains this event along with several others and is fully controllable for which you want to keep or remove :)

Question: If you allow them to reclaim their stuff, what is rightfully theirs, does this positively boost relations with this faction at least slightly? (Does the player get a reputation boost with the faction?)

It's such a letdown to have them come reclaim everything after we found the wandering animal and tamed it. And I would think that the faction coming to retrieve their stuff would be at least a bit grateful that they could recover everything and that you're so reasonable about it.

Hi everyone sorry for the inactivity, I've done an overhaul on the inventory generation system; there should be no more huge stacks of items and no more 'lottery' caravans. Every caravan should now average out around a fixed market value (with large variations based on random chance), which makes the current caravans much more balanced than the previous caravans.

@general223 seems to have abandoned the mod, which is sad, for it's really a nice mod and could use some love on ironing out those small quirks on distribution.

A nice new feature would be if, once tamed, the beasts triggered a "Unload Caravan" job - but only after the "hundreds of bulky non-stackable items (chunks, minified buildings, etc) spawning" bug is killed.

An elephant of a wandering caravan dropped 2945 ironwood alongside 591 chemfuel, 136 steel and 26 silver? That some kind of lottery feature?

im still trying to work out the maths to see if it is worth me repairing about 20 socks i have from raiders, and selling them for $2 or to refine or convert them into other resources... (not as easy as it sounds)

(you can also have 3 shoe-related items btw, to help give your colonists a bit of stackable speed boost, i think its wraps, socks, and sandals, but they do add a bit of weight to yoru character too so they can haul less with pick up and haul but is still cool :)

will be even cooler once there is a way to easily see which clothing slots a character can use, and what we have available on the map that could fit that slot (without displacing anything they already have)

oh does mean that all cargo falls off a pack animal if they get hunted etc and killed, as individual items? (if so, that would be a mess like in factorio when a chest gets destroyed) :)

btw if you do have lots of unwanted socks, theres some cool mods that can let you unravel them back into thread, or refine them into nano tech fuel, and even convert them into other components with cloud core mods

I had a wandering caravan of elephants spawn, and one of them was literally carrying 665 pairs of cloth tailored socks (from the medieval mod). I'm afraid that elephant will die and ill have my map littered with socks. And another one of them has 131 pairs of tribal wraps. Just wanted to note it here. not sure if this is something that can be fixed.

anyway to have the animals leave after a short period of time, maybe "wandering herd tries to find home" love the mod but when the animals hangout for 5 + days it's easy to tame them all or the wildlife gets them
