Technically, all you need to spawn a mob is the correct amount of blocks inside a chunk, anything else is just for the sake of aesthetics / pathing of the mobs - the Reference linked in the ESC screen from any world has pages dedicated to (almost all) mobs, from there you can check the spawn conditions and create your own custom spawners (just make sure you know where chunks are to fulfill the spawning requirements on each given chunk)
