Thanks for playing my map and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
CrazyMak 12 Apr, 2021 @ 5:04pm
Also nice map!
CrazyMak 12 Apr, 2021 @ 5:04pm
Hey! You played my level!
lfairban 6 Nov, 2018 @ 2:00pm
That was a crazy detour. Nice map!
Bayram  [author] 27 Sep, 2014 @ 5:04pm
I figured that by the "ultimate exploit" you meant getting to the exit without falling down into the dungeon. Very nice work! It isn't really an exploit though, unless you think of it as exploiting my failure to block that short-cut. It's something anyone could do if they have the smarts and skill and it doesn't exploit any "bugs" in the game. Thanks for recording the demo.
Uglee 24 Sep, 2014 @ 6:10am
You're welcome. Tell me how you liked my solution :)
Bayram  [author] 23 Sep, 2014 @ 8:15pm
Uglee : I'm very flattered by the mere mention of "Mevious maps" in a comment on one of my maps, but I'm under no impression that my maps can compare in any way. I'm always interested in unintended solutions. I have retrieved your demo and will take a look when I can find some free time. Thanks for playing and your comment.
Uglee 23 Sep, 2014 @ 7:13am
So after playing all Mevious maps, I gave your map another go to find the ultimate exploit. I think I found it. Here you go: https://www.dropbox.com/s/12gw8rykajdwfpg/Oubliette_exploit.dem?dl=0

liked the "story", thumbs up. As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't "hard" (neither medium), but that doesn't mean it was bad ^^'

Few things:
- strange "light" bugs: some models look very bright, I don't think it was intended (It's like when you preview with BEEmod, skipping lighting);
- I felt like shortcuting all the puzzle, that was quite weird: in the room with vertical bridge blocking the way, after using gels (clever use of orange gel btw, I don't know if i was supposed to use blue gel for the jump above goo), I went up and got the cube without using gel, jump or something.. Just with portals and light-bridge. In large room with 2 cubes/goo/funnels/jumps, I didn't need a cube, and didn't press the button.

vioray : Thanks for playing and your comment; that was just the feeling I was hoping to create!
vioray 17 Aug, 2014 @ 12:53pm
now that was pretty impressive. a few of the puzzles took a bit of figuring out and it really felt like GLaDOS was doing her damnedest to kill me. very fun level

oppoi : Thanks for playing, glad you liked it!
boggy aiko 15 Aug, 2014 @ 7:00am
That gave me the joy and excitement.
very fun!

Nothing to say except to salute the work..
Really good job, it was very fun.
mood3rd 11 Apr, 2014 @ 4:11pm
neat :)
Bayram  [author] 11 Apr, 2014 @ 7:54am
Thanks eversomuch for taking the time to give me the advice about backing up maps. But, actually, I have that all well under control. I have network-attached storage in the house and use a revision control system to save off a revision after each modification to the map, so I can go back and recover previous versions as well as the most recent one. I'm seriously into Hammer now, so my maps are actually in ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal 2\sdk_content\maps. I also create PreFabs in ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal 2\bin\Prefabs. My next map will be Hammer-from-scratch and is based on a puzzle by Brave.

yes difficulty is relative.
thankyou for the extra BEEMOD info.
so did you know if your harddrive dies or you install a new operating system, or get a new pc.
steam will restore all your portal files & progress, EXEPT your maps.
so if your not already backing up your maps.
I suggest backing them up to a external drive.
the path for your maps / puzzles are:
path to portal 2 maps on a windows 7 home premium 64 bit pc.
start / computer / C drive (or which ever one your operating system is on) /program files (x86) / steam / steam apps / common / portal 2 / portal 2 / puzzles.
then if the worst happens, install steam & portal 2.
then use the path to find puzzles. then replace it with your backup.
in the editor, they will appear like new default maps.
just click build, to see your masterpiece's
Bayram  [author] 6 Apr, 2014 @ 5:27am
mood3rd, thanks for playing and the thumbs up! I think the puzzles that people find difficult are different for everyone. The trouble with this map is that when a puzzle is hard to solve you keep dying because GLaDOS is trying to kill you. Regarding BEEMOD (the original one), you can use most of the stuff without needing the player to install anything. Thanks again!

Bayram
great adventure.
the only negative is in the room / deathtrap, where the cube funels up to the button
& turns the light bridge off.
I did not see the way out for ages.
I thought I was looking at more non-portable tiles.
had fun.
the beemod without me needing to install anything, is good.
I took the companion cube to the exit, but weighted cube there waiting.
well thought out.
thumbs up
Bayram  [author] 16 Mar, 2014 @ 4:54am
Thanks, daloboy, for playing and the thumbs up. I'm glad that you enjoyed the traps. I will subscribe to your suggested map and play soon.
daloboy 15 Mar, 2014 @ 7:37pm
Hi Bayram! What a adventure! Liked that there's traps at every corner but autosave just before! Thank you for that. Had fun!
Here's one of mine . Thanks.
Bayram  [author] 15 Mar, 2014 @ 1:54pm
OK, will do. I'm making good progress on my Hammer-from-scratch version of your map "Interface". The original chamber has been in place for weeks. Now I'm working on making it accessible to less skilled players (various things happen to make puzzles easier to execute) and to people who have more difficulty solving puzzles when they can't see all the elements (you can tour the observation rooms). The last step is to add practice chambers to basically give away the solution to the most inexperiences players.
Brave 15 Mar, 2014 @ 9:02am
Hi Bayram, I made another new map and then edited using hammer, when you find the time check it out and let me know what you think...thanks!
I also noticed you've been spending a lot of time in Portal 2 authoring tools, so i'll be looking forward to your next map.
Bayram  [author] 22 Jan, 2014 @ 5:24am
Brave, thanks very much for playing and the thumbs up. The reason for the reflection cube is exploding the turrets with the laser, if that's what you want to do, but I think people forget about the laser, even through it causes the explosion . The cube that opens the exit is visible from the starting room.
Brave 21 Jan, 2014 @ 5:48pm
Oh, that blood trail was cool, and a hint as well, but I still died by the piston form thingy pushing me into the laser field!
Brave 21 Jan, 2014 @ 5:39pm
That was and adventure even though you have the save checkpoints, I still found F6/F7 to be my friend!
I found a reflector cube, didn't know what purpose it serve if any, before rescuing the franken from the turrets worshiping him, and I carried 2 solid cubes to the exit only to find another cube already waiting for me!
Even though there's a lot going on in this chamber, it actually turned out to be fun, and I thumbs it up for fun and deaths...good job Bayram on your 2nd chamber!
Bayram  [author] 2 Dec, 2013 @ 5:23am
SilentScream, thanks for playing and the comment. I can't disagree with what you say. It's supposed to represent GLaDOS's desperate attempts to kill you after you escape from the oubliette.
Sterben614 2 Dec, 2013 @ 4:40am
It's all over the place and kinda messy. so from me a 5/10. :p2chell:
Bayram  [author] 27 Nov, 2013 @ 4:54am
OK, thanks for taking the time to comment.
mechtakendall 26 Nov, 2013 @ 7:29pm
Death puzzles are my favorites by any stretch of the imagination. I didn't dislike it though, just can't say that it appealed to me either. Design 5/10 Difficulty 6/10
Velexia 25 Nov, 2013 @ 12:26pm
My pleasure =3

That was a lot of fun.
Bayram  [author] 25 Nov, 2013 @ 4:25am
Thanks for playing and especially for the blind run recording. I will watch it and hopefully from it I will find ways to improve the map.
Velexia 24 Nov, 2013 @ 9:29pm
Here's the blind run, an hour and seven minutes long, heh... It was quite a journey, and fun =)

Velexia 23 Nov, 2013 @ 5:09pm
Fancy little area you've got here ~_^

I'll post my blind run of it at somepoint in the near future =) ( it may have been slowed down by the cooking and consuming of pizza =3 )
Smokin'DIESEL 22 Nov, 2013 @ 2:05pm
hey man i added you on my friends list, i need to talk to you about something, need your help on a new map im making, i need your opinion on something and i have some things to tell you. plz accept i think is my best map and i need to solve the dilemma
Smokin'DIESEL 25 Oct, 2013 @ 4:38pm
I dont neceserily like to wrestle but the franken cube was far to easier to wrestle than to use the lazer or the redir-cube. You should make it a bit harder to wrestle so a player want to expore other solutions. At 7.20 i wanted to do the puzzle cause i knew what to do and it was interesting but i died too easy cause its a very hazarous place and decided to do the fast root.Maybe you should make this part a little safer so a player doesnt get tired to go for the clean solution. I might be wrong on the other hand, just sayin. Ill try your other map, this one was interesting
Bayram  [author] 25 Oct, 2013 @ 6:15am
Thanks for the playthrough. As this is an escape story, rather than a puzzle, I allowed for multiple solutions that do not get the player stuck or bypass some of the fun. For example, I see that you like to wrestle with turrets, but there are other ways to deal with them for those that prefer to work from a comfortable distance. The only thing I saw you do that I plan to fix was the angled drop at 7:20 which bypasses an interesting puzzle. I will have the islands rise up from under the toxic goo only after that puzzle is solved. What you did at 9:00 requires more skill than the intended solution but does not bypass anything. Thanks again.

Smokin'DIESEL 24 Oct, 2013 @ 9:05pm
Gonna take a while :S Also i think i exploited the surprise room also but not sure
Smokin'DIESEL 24 Oct, 2013 @ 8:58pm
well i recorded it but i was lagging as hell xD dont know why. i got used with the laggy movement and i managed to finish it. The video looks clean though no lag.ill be uploading in a minute
Bayram  [author] 24 Oct, 2013 @ 8:45pm
I doubt that you will find Bandicam to be "choppy". I have a pretty poor computer for gaming, with just a dual-core AMD Athlon X2 at 2.1 GHz and an ATI Radeon HD 5450. I play at 800 by 600 full screen and still only get a marginally acceptable frame rate. Bandicam is fine with this and I don't notice any slow down.
Smokin'DIESEL 24 Oct, 2013 @ 8:36pm
im whilling i just hope it isnt choppy like my last one.I also want to make playthroughs of my maps as i intented them lol xD Ill have the video either today or tommorow
Bayram  [author] 24 Oct, 2013 @ 8:33pm
Thanks for playing and especially for the thumbs up, given how critical I have been of your maps (everyone else, go play them, they're challenging but may have unintended solutions until they are blocked).

I will have to try to figure out the unintended solutions you used in this map. If you are interested, I recommend Bandicam to record playthroughs. It is easy to use and records up to ten minutes for the free version. (Of course, you have to be willing to spend the time to replay a map for the benefit of the map maker.)
Smokin'DIESEL 24 Oct, 2013 @ 8:14pm
And damn it i didnt search for the companion cube cause i though the franken-cube was the cudos xD ill replay it though i really think companion is in the room with glass barriers and 2 openings.
Smokin'DIESEL 24 Oct, 2013 @ 8:11pm
You asked for exploits so here are some that i think werent intended
I never used the first lazer neither the redirection cube and the hole room where the rediraction cube was.i completely passed it.When i did try to get redir-cube cause i lost my franken i never used the angled panels to get the cube plus i found an extra solution where i could bring the blue gel in those rooms, though i didnt use it. Next In the huge room with water and the tractor beam leading to a riged weighted button i never used Any of the 3-4 cubes that where there neither the second beam, i just passed it in 3 moves. Next room with glass and 2 openings i went straight for the one with the traps with 3 portals. And some other minor stuff
Smokin'DIESEL 24 Oct, 2013 @ 7:57pm
Ah i wish i could use hammer like you do. Very good map and is more on the hard side ;)
I didnt have to replay more than 2 times the trap parts except the frikin crushing machines.
I had 2 problems with the franken-cube. 1st i lost him between the deathdoors and had to restart and 2nd i thought i read that franken cube rescue was optional for cudos and when i traped him between deathdoors i desided to leave hime there plus the button and spent half an hour trying to figure where to go next xD.
Porakdak 24 Oct, 2013 @ 9:12am
this was a really good map, REALLY good
Bayram  [author] 15 Oct, 2013 @ 9:14am
Thanks for playing and the thumbs up.
Flav606 15 Oct, 2013 @ 8:33am
Interesting concept. Rated it up even tho I didn't like the trap parts. I'm a puzzle guy so guessing when I'm gonna die is not really my thing lol. All in all, a really good concept; I liked the funnel room best; OH and yeah! Good Hammer touches to it!.
Bayram  [author] 9 Oct, 2013 @ 4:50am
Actually, no. I have an idea, but I want to do the whole map in Hammer so I'm learning that. It's slow going.
