New versions of the Farragut are on temporary hold while other ships are added to the Fleet Tactical Battlegroup Doctrine ships. I will come back to Farragut for new versions soon though.
Arisaema 17 Oct, 2018 @ 3:16pm
Can't wait to see the new mods!
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 5:39pm
The texture spot is combat steel blocks. I tried to replicate the design you had but was quite hard to see the divider in the center so I changed the color a bit. I also made a small bridge over the edge of the hanger doors on the top deck which means that walk space on the side can be filled in if you want,
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 5:36pm
Do not feel bad about experimenting and ripping something apart to make it like you want. That's all part of the process. And the spot that's not accepting texturing may be the backside of the under turrets, texturing those spots are weird. I left it untextured so not to mess up the runway appearance, personally, but feel free to go whatever direction you want to.
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 5:20pm
Tried texturing and ran into an issue I cant figure out.

Theres a spot in the landing lights that is inverted and its driving me nuts... It breaks everything near the one end of the upper deck.
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:25pm
I'll have to work on extending the elevator down and whatnow unless I make a walkway up the side of the wall for people. I do feel bad about tearing down alot of your work for this but I'll try to redo the textures to match the original design
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:23pm
Outstanding! :D
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:20pm
Forgot to add that I placed a leveling platform for hovers to address my issue with the skyhammer docking
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:19pm
I'm using half blocks for the expansion of the top flight deck and might replace the entier top flgiht deck with half blocks for the reduction of weight. Sure armors cut in half but you could also add a second layer to compensate and in the prossess it works as a form of splash negation if I recall correctly
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:15pm
lol, we probably were thinking similarly then about how many tanks of what size would be most efficient for the space available.
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:12pm
I just looked and your build has the same number of tanks as my carrier :P
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:06pm
Thats where things fall apart for me when trying to compartmentalize things.

BTW Top hanger doors are 14x14 both ends of the hover hanger bay I'm working on are 14x7 and I extended the upper flight deck by a good 10 blocks.
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:49pm
Awesome! Firewalling is simple, really. always make sure to put some combat steel blocks to separate a component from touching any other components, the more complete the separation, the better. This avoids chain reaction explosions of components. If you go into GM mode and fly through the rear engine section of the ship, you will see all the primary power generators and fuel tanks are firewalled heavily. The weight cost of firewalling can spiral upwards fast though, so it's a balancing act.
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:35pm
I'll have a new version with the 14x7 hover bay ready by end of the night. Will have some work on the countermesure to decompression as well. No firewalling on the side since I'm still learning how to do basic building lol
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:35pm
Or, feel free to add me as a friend if you like
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:35pm
Hmmm, you may have to link me directly to your workshop, it's not letting me see it.
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:32pm
I will snag it and take a look! It may be a couple days before I get back in game again to do more than upload some stuff, but will look it over ASAP.
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:32pm
I'm only modifying the 1 side of the ship so you can see what I did and if you wanna impliment my changes into a future design
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:31pm
If you wanna see the monstrosity I was working on check out my workshop
I'll have to make it a public design again but I made a carrier that well could use an artistic touch
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:29pm
hahaha, giant armored cargo holds are not necessarily a bad thing, Sentient_Worm, we think much alike :P
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:28pm
An interesting side effect of expanding the hover bay to a 14x7 was that I expanded the upper flight deck to a 14x7 as well. I also increased the space that can be used for more redundent components on the interier if you dont wanna increase the armor rating for the bottom of the ship
I'll let you handle that since I would end up turning it into a giant armored cargo hold lol
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:25pm
I love the application of combat redundancy, that sounds excellent, Sentient_Worm. I'm not shy about multiplying components for the sake of handling battle damage, so will try that out myself as well. Good find! Thank you!
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:23pm
I still use hanger doors. I placed the force feilds in front of the armored automatic doors leading to the interior of the ship. I did however place 3 hanger doors back to back and add a forcefeild as a 4th layer to help prevent decompression if oxygen is added into the bay
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:21pm
I will do some testing of replacing the hanger doors with forcefields, Sentient_Worm, that sounds like an interesting project. If anything comes from that, I will roll it into the first variant of the Farragut that comes out, which I do plan several variants due to it being an "Omni-Cruiser", a multi-role ship concept we came up with for ships that can handle many roles equally well, but still retains the primary "warship" requirement. Omnicruisers are never civilian vessels except in the case of our hospital ship version we're working on.
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:12pm
Sarge, I haven't posted any of my bases due to them being massive shipyards that break the survival rules of the game, but provide tons of construction and development/testing area for my team of players, the SWORD Corp.

I do have our construction yard blueprinted but have never uploaded it anywhere. If you would like a copy of the BP, friend me and will get it posted friends only if you want to use it, but beware as it's as big underground as it is above ground and is a total rule breaker of a base.

The link below goes to Tinypic to show an image of Starport Sentinel, the SWORD Corp's production and design center:

I already made it impossible to decompress the ship by blowing out the 2 doors leading to the hanger bay or the flight deck.

1x1 force feilds in front of those doors prevents it. Doing that actually allows use of clear doors leading out to the deck. The clear doors are not airtight tho and the force feilds can be destroyed but they take alot longer to break then a door due to how small of a hit box they have
(A.S.S.) sarge5186 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:07pm
well our will be useing this build to bring lots of death then
thank you u got my sub and rateing :steamhappy:
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:07pm
Very cool, Sentient_Worm! please keep me in the loop of how those experiments go as I'm always looking for new techniques to improve durability of the ship and survivability of the crew, hence the use of dual bridges (Battle Bridge) on all ships above Frigate class (size class 1). I also tried to ensure every section except the lower bays had independent O2 supply. The bays are left un-oxygenated due to the probability of combat damage breaching a lower bay, but once inside the ships main interior, all rooms have independent O2 supplies, allowing protection against decompression to some degree. If you find better methods, I would love to learn them from you to implement in later designs or even upgrade this one with potentially.
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 3:03pm
If you will go into GM mode and take a fly through, Sarge, you will see for yourself how the firewalling of fuel tanks was handled. I ensured a layer of armor between each one, on it's sides, above and below. And each tank is similarly armored so that killing one has zero effect on other fuel tanks. Same with power generation, the ship can function on just one, but has 3 total, firewalled from each other. You can save fuel by disabling one generator and only re-enable it if the other 2 become damaged for better fuel efficiency.
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:59pm
Oh Mosh I also plan to experiment a bit with trying to make the ship more resistant to decompression
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:59pm
And Sentient Worm, this ship holds a LOT of fuel, it's gonna be hard to impact fuel efficiency very much at all as I over-provisioned for fuel and power needs in the spirit of combat redundancy.
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:58pm
Highly armored, firewalled, and split into multiple locations. There is no way whatsoever to take out the fuel tanks more than one at a time, and getting to that one requires a LOT of fire to dig through the center section, from inside one of the lower bays. It cannot be done from outside the bay unless the ship sits totally still and LETS somebody shoot through it. I expect it would take a long time though.
(A.S.S.) sarge5186 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:54pm
what about the promethium fuel tanks are they well armored as well ?
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:53pm
I can refit the hanger bay up to a 14x7 then send you the link to finish the exterior armor since my approach would undoubtedly cause issues with the fuel effecency.
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:45pm
Oh, and the core itself is highly armored, and is deep inside the center of the ship, practically unreachable. It's hidden under layers of armor, components, and heavy firewalling. I do not believe there is any angle of fire against this ship that would have to go through less than 4 or 5 layers of armor and components to get to the core, and you'd have to keep the ship sitting still, which you likely are not gonna do, lol. It should be VERY hard to kill this ship.
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:42pm
Hi Sarge! Size class 5, maximum size for survival rules allowance. And only combat steel is used in the construction externally and internally. All components are highly firewalled from each other with at least one layer of combat steel blocks and include at least 2 redundancies, more in the case of thrusters as it also has a set of internal thrusters in case all externals are destroyed. All external thrusters are recessed and covered with proper venting to block incoming fire.

The pilot does not have to use the exposed topside bridge but instead can use the Battle Bridge located internally for PvP or heavy enemy fire situations that would threaten the main bridge's viewports. All sections have independent air supply and bridge is designed to be easily sealed from rest of ship if it becomes damaged.
(A.S.S.) sarge5186 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:13pm
and is it made of 100% combat steal and how well garded at the core and outher critical systems
(A.S.S.) sarge5186 14 Oct, 2018 @ 2:11pm
what size class is it
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 1:29pm
Sentient_Worm, if you'd like to post it to workshop and credit me too, feel free to make a "refit" posting if you want. I'm always up for seeing customizations.
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 11:09am
I should mention that I cannot go any larger then 10x5 without having to alter the upper deck. If you want I can finish the expansion and pass the firewalling over to you.
Sentient_Worm 14 Oct, 2018 @ 10:59am
@The_Moshpit The design I been working on increases the size of the HV deck to 9x5. 10x5 is also possible with little effort but I am not good with the reinforcment of armor. I did however make the hanger doors 3 thick on the 1 side. Have yet to touch the other side of the ship tho.
the_moshpit  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 6:32am
If your GPU is low end enough to make you worry about triangle count, than this ship likely isn't for you. I recommend bringing a solid GPU to this game before using ANY of my CV ships in the FTB doctrine as I built them to look good, not save GPU cycles.
☠ OnlyChud ☠ TTV/KTV 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:32am
Whats the Triangle count?
I dont see a screenshot of the Info page
the_moshpit  [author] 13 Oct, 2018 @ 10:05pm
A good idea, Arisaema, I will do some testing of that.
Arisaema 13 Oct, 2018 @ 8:29pm
If you do make a larger varient, a bigger port and stbd HV deck would be marvelous. I did a godmode runthrough and you could probably reclaim some of the center volume between the HV deck for other things.
Sentient_Worm 13 Oct, 2018 @ 5:23pm
The skyhammer looks like it might work for what I need. Will have to take a closer look.

the_moshpit  [author] 13 Oct, 2018 @ 5:10pm
Also, I do have tanks that are optimized for this design, by the way. They fit perfectly. The Hammer III Panzer and Clawhammer Mk. III both fit great. Also the Skyhammer Mk IV is a drop optimized super heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle with all the punch of a tank, but internal space for passengers and even a medibay.

Skyhammer IV - https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1483379049
Hammer III Panzer - https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1289812525
Clawhammer Mk.III - https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1291958821

I believe you will find these HV's to be highly optimized for access to the Farragut. The Hammer III Panzer was the primary intended HV to operate from the bottom deck, but the others are certified for use on Farragut as well, full compatibility.

Heres a rough mockup of what I did with the right side to accomidate the tank I was using. I ahve it marked as hidden since I dont belive I made enough changes to justify it being marked as a public design
Sentient_Worm 13 Oct, 2018 @ 2:14pm
I was just gonna link ya it as an example. I dont know how to make the semetry plane thing work so only doing 1 side as more of an example.
