agrimes, I'll be honest, it's been 3 years since I even looked at it. I'm sure my intentions were admirable at the time, but experience and composites have made most of this obsolete. Really, it needs to be gutted and redone. As I work for a REAL railroad I rarely come home and have any desire to screw around with more trains XD but maybe someday. Let me know what you need help with, I'm on Discord under the same name "GERUNIMO". Have a nice day!

I'm still working on this thing as a kinda background project. I'm identifying small subcircuits and replacing them with more compact, modernized circuits. ie, speed is now just a F(x) box instead of a constant and a multiply, which means the thing is slowly coughing up the secrets of what it is doing. It seems to implement a number of railroad standards that I'm not familiar with. Mechanically, it's top speed is around 150 mph, The speed input is converted to mph then it is sent to two sets of threshold gates instead of an |x| gate and a single threshold gamet, Each pair of threshold gates has a different range, one is 10-100 and the other is 5-200... I'm getting to the point where I legit need your help to understand what you were actually trying to do with this.

agrimes, indeed that is a more user friendly way of doing it, but the real locomotives do not have a light that indicates it is primed or not. I'm sure someone with an eye for realism and having an "engineering mind" such as yourself can appreciate that. Regardless, that is a good build!
agrimes 30 Apr, 2022 @ 8:23pm
This SD60 that I looked at recently had an explicit prime button and a light that shows when the engine is ready to be started. The solution does what it seems like you were trying to do but it shows the player what he is doing and why he is waiting and when he can expect things to happen.

agrimes, thank you for the comment. I built it some time ago when I knew much less about the game then I do now. I hope to (at some point) rebuild this as it was build prior to multi-channel composites and a build of this nature would benefit from them. As to the delay in the fuel valve it was meant to simulate the priming of the engine which can take about 12 seconds before you can crank the engine. As we don't have two-way spring loaded rotary switches this seemed the best option at the time. Sorry you're disappointed, but glad you took it upon yourself to try and rebuild it!

Someone brought this to my map, I knew donkk branded stuff was dated so I warned him it would be trouble. I spent much of today getting one kinda operational. I'd describe it as puzzle box up top and a clown show downstairs. I mean the thing doesn't have any framing around the trucks... The entire weight of the loco is being borne by the power linkages... I know stormworks doesn't care but it's the kind of thing that really gets on the nerves of my engineering mind. I ripped out all the ha ha ha funny small motors and moved the medium motor down into the frame. I have it running now using a true Diesel Electric circuit that I like to use these days. I was tracing back the controls on the fuel valve and I discovered a 12 second delay from the starter and I'm just so flabberghasted that I don't want to think about the thing anymore.

SwedenBall, hopefully the tutorial video is still good, unfortunately I have been neglecting them and they are well overdue for an update. It is possible they no longer function correctly. I hope that helps, someday I do plan to update them...someday :steamfacepalm:
Sweden_Gaming8416 20 Oct, 2021 @ 6:25am
how do i start this thing?????
GERUNIMO  [author] 8 Jun, 2021 @ 12:11pm
Corporal Simmons, like I said, it's a little dated. These are looong overdue for an update; and it seems that based on what you've said it might need to happen sooner rather then later. Thanks for the information, sorry it's broken.
Corporal Simmons 8 Jun, 2021 @ 11:43am
Ok so it runs but its super slow and the engine just overheated somehow by just running the generators? Was max throttle no brakes (They were set at 0) reverser forwards and I was going 1.2 mph. Yes, all breakers were on. Gen field switch was on. Idk what is wrong
GERUNIMO  [author] 6 Jun, 2021 @ 11:07pm
Corporal Simmons, the hand brake is located on the "short nose" Fireman's side. Might I suggest watching the tutorial video on this engines operation? It explains alot of the systems you seem to be having trouble with. Good luck!
Corporal Simmons 6 Jun, 2021 @ 8:50pm
Where is the hand brake?
GERUNIMO  [author] 6 Jun, 2021 @ 6:48pm
Corporal Simmons, yeah HAHA, that might be a problem. Glad you figured it out.
Corporal Simmons 6 Jun, 2021 @ 3:35pm
Oh, maybe not. Then again the engine was not running.
GERUNIMO  [author] 6 Jun, 2021 @ 12:10pm
Corporal Simmons, she's a little dated, and in a need of an update but she should still work. Do you have the Hand Brake off?
Corporal Simmons 6 Jun, 2021 @ 10:58am
Isolate/run is on gen field is on
Corporal Simmons 6 Jun, 2021 @ 10:58am
Wont run or move with reverser maxed Brakes at 0 and full throttle.
ProtowoSchweppes 26 Mar, 2021 @ 9:42am
Detective Stabler ive been able to get the locomotive runing nd moving in under than 2 minuits
GERUNIMO  [author] 31 Aug, 2020 @ 8:35pm
Innoventions, cool I hope you like it!

found this on youtube :steamhappy:
GERUNIMO  [author] 8 Jun, 2020 @ 11:23am
wandling4804, glad you like it! It's a real locomotive, I use them at work, although ours don't say Donkk on the side :D Minus the radio they operate just like the real thing.
wandling4804 8 Jun, 2020 @ 10:42am
I like the train itself, reminds me of the type locomotive in real life.
GERUNIMO  [author] 22 May, 2020 @ 11:53pm
Detective Stabler, located on the "short nose" Fireman's side of the engine. WATCH THE VIDEO! :D
Detective Stabler 20 May, 2020 @ 10:40am
where is the hand brake i tured off the other 2 brakes
GERUNIMO  [author] 19 May, 2020 @ 8:07pm
Detective Stabler, I'm sorry your having this issue. If you haven't watch my tutorial video I explain most things in it. But off the top of my head (and the problem most folks have) make sure the handbrake on all locomotives and cars are off. Hope that helps! Have fun!
Detective Stabler 19 May, 2020 @ 5:56pm
i can't get it to go forward
GERUNIMO  [author] 12 May, 2020 @ 1:03pm
flyboy2100, thank you that is VERY kind of you to say! I'm glad your enjoying them!
flyboy2100 12 May, 2020 @ 11:22am
this is the best train on stormworks
GERUNIMO  [author] 16 Jan, 2020 @ 11:38am
YoJo715, sure I can try. Making Youtube videos (because I am not any good at it) takes some time to make, but I'll get on it as soon as I can. In the interim can I help you with something?
Thngz 16 Jan, 2020 @ 10:57am
I had trouble getting the trains working, brake line press, Tran leading and trailing, all that stuff. Could you make an updated video tutorial?
GERUNIMO  [author] 31 Dec, 2019 @ 9:45pm
By the way, just how long of a train are you pulling? Don't forget every time you reload the game the tank cars start with their handbrakes fully applied.
GERUNIMO  [author] 31 Dec, 2019 @ 9:18pm
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "chain" but if your referring to Distributed Power Units or DPU, aka. remote controlled mid train locomotives from the head end, then no you cannot. The GP-15 is not DPU capable. Happy New Year!
GERUNIMO  [author] 31 Dec, 2019 @ 9:18pm
PC Builder, you could control them from the middle motor but as you surmised visibility is poor. In America its also illegal to do that. These GP-15's atleast in the configurations we use them in real life are usually as yard switches or locals. We rarely if ever MU more then two of them together. If we need more power we'll usually have a GP-40 or 38 in there. This is because if you keep piling small, light locomotives together your Tons Per Axle or TPA will remain fairly low and you just end up burning more fuel and not really getting much more pulling power. Plus most of the GP-15s we use (again in real life) are so burned out they don't have anywhere near the horsepower they did when they were new, back in the late 70's early 80s. I'll have to check the rules but I don't even think the railroad I work for wants us MU'ing multiple GP-15 together anymore anyway.
CPL. Johnson 31 Dec, 2019 @ 4:55pm
well maybe i could try to make an updated ver. and if it works ill shoot you a meg. plus what i wanted to do was set three for a LOOOONG line cuz two is struggling but who know maybe a third would only hurt it but only one way to find out, also just wondering (my pc is down rn) could i control number two mid way in the chain? ps i have some luck if you have 3 and control from the mid eng. but then you cant really see whats in front of you without TPV
GERUNIMO  [author] 31 Dec, 2019 @ 2:05am
PC Builder, come to think of it they definitely predate the 32-channel composites, which would have made what your trying to do possible. Maybe someday I'll fix it....someday :steamfacepalm:
GERUNIMO  [author] 31 Dec, 2019 @ 1:53am
PC Builder, yeah unfortunately the way I have these wired up only two will work at a time. When I started making these they predated composite connections, so when the developers came out with that update I did my best to incorporate them without "rewiring" the whole locomotive; this was the best solution I could come up with at the time. Besides, you wouldn't want to have duplicate numbered locomotives running around would you? :D
CPL. Johnson 30 Dec, 2019 @ 11:44pm
okay is it only use 2 engs? i tried 3 but it didnt seem to work
GERUNIMO  [author] 17 Nov, 2019 @ 9:53pm
Ultrawing_56, I hope you figure them out I tried to make them realistic, at least to an extent. jshmccanna, thanks for the help buddy.
Tmccanna 17 Nov, 2019 @ 12:49pm
watch the vids.
Ultrawing_56 17 Nov, 2019 @ 9:26am
could there be a start up procedure in the train or in the desc im very confused on how to make this thing move
Ultrawing_56 17 Nov, 2019 @ 9:04am
these seems like the most realistic train in stormworks ever, just hope it stays running, and not broken
sarobertson7 12 Nov, 2019 @ 6:33pm
lol well i cant wait to see what comes in the future. ya some of them can be hard to do with the window. lucky things like the SD50F and SD70 ace have easy windows. cant wait to see what great things are to come in the future!
GERUNIMO  [author] 12 Nov, 2019 @ 5:43pm
sarobertson7, Another builder and I have been in the VERY early planning stages of making more locomotives, and train cars for Stormworks. Ironically enough he's also Canadian. The biggest reason I never tackled some of the more modern "road power" you see these days is because; 1) The windshields are awkward shapes to make in game; 2) I spend most of my days and nights on them and have no desire to be around them anymore then I have to :D Thanks for the nice comment!
sarobertson7 12 Nov, 2019 @ 1:12pm
god i would kill for a CN SD50F to be made of this level
GERUNIMO  [author] 30 Oct, 2019 @ 3:21pm
WiredrawnMurder, no problem, glad I could help, and I'm very glad you can enjoy it. I'm off to go Build America :D
WiredrawnMurder 30 Oct, 2019 @ 3:17pm
Oh I'm such a fool! I did forget the hand brake XD

Thanks for responding to my stupidity. Again, this is easily the best locomotive in Stormworks, thank you for your hard work in making it for us to enjoy and thank you for helping the world run by keeping the freight moving!
GERUNIMO  [author] 29 Oct, 2019 @ 9:07pm
WiredrawnMurder, Glad you like the locomotive and I am sorry your having trouble. I would recommend watching my tutorial video that explains most of the systems and there operation. It is alittle long but you can skip around. If I had to take a guess you probably forgot to release the hand brake, everyone always forgets the hand brake...even in real life :D GOOD LUCK! Let me know if you have further troubles.
WiredrawnMurder 29 Oct, 2019 @ 4:18pm
Great locomotive and very realistic, however I think an update broke both this version and the reversed version because the units won't move. Load meter goes up with throttle and reverser input, but the units won't budge.
GERUNIMO  [author] 25 Oct, 2019 @ 2:39pm
Also, I thought they treated it better then their own employees, but that is another story.
GERUNIMO  [author] 25 Oct, 2019 @ 2:38pm
jshmccanna, I work for the UP and got to switch out the Big Boy when it came through Chicago. You know what my reaction was? "Huh, I thought it would have been bigger!" :steamfacepalm:
