Hope it helps anyone!
According to lore Rimworld where events take placehad intense war going on few centuries prior. Y'know that event where things get bombed and burned a lot.
And what does happen to steel if you bomb it to pieces and then burn everloving crap out of it?
Intense oxydation, as in iron and carbon both separate and bind to oxygen- carbon goes poof in a form of carbon dioxyde, while iron rapidly turns to rust.
What is rust? Basicaly hematite (one form of iron ore).
If anything this mod doesn't go far enough- there should be only two metal deposits.
Compacted Metal and Compacted Rust (metal is where incendiary armaments didn't hit)
Metal for mostly steel with a bit of rust and chance to find random metal bits embedded in it.
Rust for mostly iron rust with a bit of iron and chance to find random bits of metal (including steel).
And then smelt rust into iron and iron into steel.
Just my two cents about iron and steel forming.
melt it into the "ore steel chunks"
need def editor to change spawnrates and spawntypes i have it explained in my now outdated immersive compilation, but iam about to update thats why i was lookin at this for problems etc

I used the Configurable Maps mod... and disallowed the "fake" ores. Which include vanilla compacted steel. Since Iron basically replaces vanilla compacted steel, and that doesn't spawn, I effectively cucked myself out of accessible iron\steel.
Why did I do that? I didn't read carefully enough and skipped the "compacted steel" part - I thought it would only block compacted machinery and plasteel from spawning "naturally" which would add a nice survival touch.
Any additional incompatibilities, not stated in the description?
Personally I'd make components researchable after the smithy table and craftable at the smithy table. Having them here seems more appropriate for technology progression since the machining table requires them. For balance I'd just make the amount of time it takes to make one at a smithy table high enough to make mass production in the early game not worthwhile. Then each more advanced table (machining, fabrication) can have a decreased required work time so production can keep up with the increasing requirements as tech advances.
Sorry to post this on your iron mod, I just didn't get any traction in the forums and I thought if anyone would appreciate the idea it'd hopefully be someone who makes mods for realism
1. Add "<showAllowAutoRefuelToggle>true</showAllowAutoRefuelToggle>" for "NECBloomery",reduce waste.
2. It is not necessary to delete the compacted steel, otherwise the compacted machinery will appear strange, you can reduce the production rate of compacted steel.
3. The color of steel: patch👇
<graphicdata>
<color>(168,168,168)</color>
</graphicdata>
I think it looks more normal.
4.It's better to create another iron ore deposit, because the translator can't recognize your patch behavior, and it still shows "compact steel" in other languages, which can be misleading.
I used a translation tool. I'm sorry. I hope you can understand what I mean.
Added Coal Expanded smelter patch (why'd it take this long...)

UPDATE v1.0.6
Added iron to the smeltable list.
just a head up the Xenite Industries doesnt have anymore coal anymore (they removed it).
(Mod Update v.1.0.2:
- Changed Titanium's name to Ttanite.
- Removed zipgun's crafting complexity, now its a 1 step recipe.
- Recipe cost balance changes.
- Deleted charcoal and gunpowder from the mod. Useless junk.
Hopefully, next update will bring compatibility with Combat Extended.)
So please remove that mod from Warning list.
thx
Changed the Bloomery texture
Added compatibility for Vanilla Factions Expanded - Medieval
