On the surface this mod seems to violate lore, but actually doesn't.
According to lore Rimworld where events take placehad intense war going on few centuries prior. Y'know that event where things get bombed and burned a lot.
And what does happen to steel if you bomb it to pieces and then burn everloving crap out of it?
Intense oxydation, as in iron and carbon both separate and bind to oxygen- carbon goes poof in a form of carbon dioxyde, while iron rapidly turns to rust.
What is rust? Basicaly hematite (one form of iron ore).

If anything this mod doesn't go far enough- there should be only two metal deposits.
Compacted Metal and Compacted Rust (metal is where incendiary armaments didn't hit)
Metal for mostly steel with a bit of rust and chance to find random metal bits embedded in it.
Rust for mostly iron rust with a bit of iron and chance to find random bits of metal (including steel).
And then smelt rust into iron and iron into steel.
Just my two cents about iron and steel forming.

Can u update to version 1.3? thanks very much
Yumeido 7 Aug, 2021 @ 7:49pm
I have tested this mod with Coal Expanded. It works just fine in 1.3, so just enjoy it as is.
Captain Butthurt 29 Jul, 2021 @ 2:51pm
Mlie just "continued" the "Coal Expanded" mod. Hopefully this one is next on his menu!
why are we here? just to suffer? 27 Jul, 2021 @ 10:00pm
1.3??
Marvin 20 Jul, 2021 @ 10:56am

CrackaJack 28 Apr, 2021 @ 3:02pm
steamworld adds coal, does it work?
Mr. Mauer (Mollari) 26 Apr, 2021 @ 1:59am
coal is a extra mod
Toast3R 25 Apr, 2021 @ 8:21am

Mr. Mauer (Mollari) 23 Apr, 2021 @ 4:20am
the main idea is to have this minable instead ore chunks
melt it into the "ore steel chunks"
need def editor to change spawnrates and spawntypes i have it explained in my now outdated immersive compilation, but iam about to update thats why i was lookin at this for problems etc

So is this "new" steel better stat wise? To create a middle ground between vanilla steel and plasteel?
Lazlo 25 Jan, 2021 @ 6:19am
Yeah, I agree with the others, please change the texture to the steel bars, the lumps of 'steel' are so off-putting.
RW 19 Jan, 2021 @ 9:57pm
I'm getting an error when trying to load this mod in 1.2.2 and it seems like whenever I have a mod that isn't Coal Expanded to get coal into the game -- such as Simple Coal and Survivalist's Additions (those are the two I tried). I've even turned off all other mods to verify the behavior.

Getting this error using this with Factions Expanded - Medieval. At least error went away when I pulled this mod.

@PhancyWorm I agree. This mod is wonderful but textures are ugly. where are awesome steel bar? in game, iron texture is ugly ball. steel texture is just vanilla version.
CrackaJack 25 Nov, 2020 @ 1:26pm
capitain butthurt u just brightened my day
chri 15 Nov, 2020 @ 7:29am
@PhancyWorm Do you have Vanilla Textures Expanded installed?
Captain Butthurt 16 Oct, 2020 @ 11:42am
I found it - it's an embarrassing oversight on my side, but I will keep both comments in case somebody will do this too:

I used the Configurable Maps mod... and disallowed the "fake" ores. Which include vanilla compacted steel. Since Iron basically replaces vanilla compacted steel, and that doesn't spawn, I effectively cucked myself out of accessible iron\steel.

Why did I do that? I didn't read carefully enough and skipped the "compacted steel" part - I thought it would only block compacted machinery and plasteel from spawning "naturally" which would add a nice survival touch.
Captain Butthurt 16 Oct, 2020 @ 11:17am
Is this mod working? I can't find ANY superficial iron ore at all. I looked for iron in 2 maps - nothing. Heavily modded game, though.

Any additional incompatibilities, not stated in the description?
gorpacus 11 Oct, 2020 @ 9:57am
The texture for the steel is the ugly vanilla version and not the bars shown in the thumbnail. Can you add a settings tab in mod settings where we could change the texture to a nicer version? Or just change the texture to whats shown.
Gota 29 Sep, 2020 @ 5:29am
Project Rimfactory also adds coal. Is it compatible to use with this?
An actual duck 13 Sep, 2020 @ 9:59am
You seem to be really in to realism mods and I was wondering if you'd consider making a mod that adjusts components for realism or if you could point me towards one that accomplishes this. I want to remove compact machinery and make components an earlier craftable item.

Personally I'd make components researchable after the smithy table and craftable at the smithy table. Having them here seems more appropriate for technology progression since the machining table requires them. For balance I'd just make the amount of time it takes to make one at a smithy table high enough to make mass production in the early game not worthwhile. Then each more advanced table (machining, fabrication) can have a decreased required work time so production can keep up with the increasing requirements as tech advances.

Sorry to post this on your iron mod, I just didn't get any traction in the forums and I thought if anyone would appreciate the idea it'd hopefully be someone who makes mods for realism
AmbiguousMonk 26 Aug, 2020 @ 6:01pm
I'm a big fan of this mod, but I would like to disallow iron as a building material (still fine for creating items, but not for structures). Could I accomplish this by editing the .xml files in this mod?
BBBBilly 17 Jul, 2020 @ 10:53pm
Sir, I particularly like your mod, and I would like to make some useful suggestions.
1. Add "<showAllowAutoRefuelToggle>true</showAllowAutoRefuelToggle>" for "NECBloomery",reduce waste.
2. It is not necessary to delete the compacted steel, otherwise the compacted machinery will appear strange, you can reduce the production rate of compacted steel.
3. The color of steel: patch👇
<graphicdata>
<color>(168,168,168)</color>
</graphicdata>
I think it looks more normal.
4.It's better to create another iron ore deposit, because the translator can't recognize your patch behavior, and it still shows "compact steel" in other languages, which can be misleading.

I used a translation tool. I'm sorry. I hope you can understand what I mean.
Lurmey 15 Jul, 2020 @ 3:05pm
Any chance you could see about making a similar mod for Copper, Tin and Bronze? "Vanilla Copper and Bronze" would be a very nice addition to the early-game when starting with no research! :)

UPDATE v1.0.8

Added Coal Expanded smelter patch (why'd it take this long...)
NECEROS  [author] 13 Jul, 2020 @ 12:46pm
Ah, I don't know if that's true. I'll check.
Nishe 13 Jul, 2020 @ 6:40am
So I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but it seems like the recipes for smelting iron into steel aren't available on the coal smelter from your coal expanded mod?
Spectre Incarnate 4 Jul, 2020 @ 3:05am
Nice simple production line without added complications. Just what my band of dwarves was looking for, thanks.
Let's hope it works with the new Z Levels mod!

uhhh oops. I fixed this a while ago, but never uploaded

UPDATE v1.0.6

Added iron to the smeltable list.
Hu Flung Dung 25 May, 2020 @ 2:51pm
Yeah, I've the same issue with iron weapons not smelting.
NECEROS  [author] 19 May, 2020 @ 12:07pm
@Vystyk I don't think so but i'll double check if that's on my end.
Vystyk 19 May, 2020 @ 10:38am
@NECEROS Great mod, thanks for making this. I've had on issue though, I can't smelt iron weapons that were dropped by raiders. All the steel weapons still get smelted properly. Does anyone else have this issue or might it be caused by another mod? I have over 100 installed.
☾⎛sιтєʀ⎞☽ 2 May, 2020 @ 12:13pm
@NECEROS Hey, could you please add coal compatibility with the Warhammer (with guns) mod? It adds its own coal but the recipe in this mod doesn't take it.
NECEROS  [author] 1 May, 2020 @ 12:37pm
Raw iron can be used to craft things, but it's not as durable as steel.
Kazeel_Amataka 1 May, 2020 @ 12:15am
I'm curious to try this out, but I need to know something. Can I use raw iron to craft stuff or does it have to be refined into steel?
McRib 30 Apr, 2020 @ 12:27am
Hello Neceros,

just a head up the Xenite Industries doesnt have anymore coal anymore (they removed it).

(Mod Update v.1.0.2:
- Changed Titanium's name to Ttanite.
- Removed zipgun's crafting complexity, now its a 1 step recipe.
- Recipe cost balance changes.
- Deleted charcoal and gunpowder from the mod. Useless junk.

Hopefully, next update will bring compatibility with Combat Extended.)

So please remove that mod from Warning list.

thx
