Since Pelador has announced their retirement from modding I made an update of this:

Hope it helps anyone!

Interesting, I haven't thought about it, this way. At the same time, it makes it harder, since prisoners need recreation. But I guess, that this results in a mood buff, most of the time, as you figured. Thanks!

@?

Should be, no-one has complained to say otherwise. Though the added mood elements from other mods from recreation will effect the balance of how easy it is to recruit them.

Is this compatible to Prisoner Recreation ?

Refinements to TV effective radius. (Ty to Jelly)

@Pelador

Thanks for the reply. It looks like the author of Prison Labor recently added an option to disable prisoner suicide, so that issue looks to be resolved. I guess it's been a while since I've looked at the mod settings for it.

@Cornbread

That does sound to me as if it is something more flavoured by the mod than vanilla behaviour.

The TV will help shorten the time of resistance, but as to effectively improving their psychology less so and more a subtle effect here.

Unfortunately, with not being familiar with Prison Labor and not really having the time to do too much in terms of analysing what it does in any real detail, you might need to open up a line of casual inquiry with the author of that mod to understand better how it might effect prisoner behaviour.

I hope this mod helps with the problem I've been having. I treat my prisoners almost as good as my colonists but during the late game, each prisoner usually commits suicide within a few days. I use Prison Labor but even if I don't force them to work, they still tend to off themselves.

@Update

Adds a small (currently +3) mood boost for the prisoner whilst watching TVs in prison.

Can you create a mod that reduce prisoner resistance over time when their mood is high?
Pelador  [author] 6 Mar, 2020 @ 7:42pm
@Testing

Will test a small flat mood boost due to watching TV for prisoners.
[TTV] pumacatrun2 6 Mar, 2020 @ 6:21pm
Perhaps a workaround would be adding a +? mood buff for having TV in their cell?
Pelador  [author] 6 Mar, 2020 @ 3:04am
@keylocke

Your reasoning is sound, I understand why, but the implications might destabalise other existing "game mechanics" in doing so, which I'm reluctant to remove from game play.

There are other mods that make recreation items available to prisoners. I'll leave it to your discretion if you want to use them.
keylocke 6 Mar, 2020 @ 2:49am
i just figured watching tv feels like recreation, especially for some dudes trapped in a tiny room with nothing better to do?
Pelador  [author] 6 Mar, 2020 @ 1:55am
@keylocke

Mood is a value that effects the difficulty to recruit prisoners. It also is a factor in how much resistance is lost due to the use of the TVs. So, I'd be reluctant to make it give a mood boost as a result as it would potentially make the TV too OP.

I could consider applying a mood boost to a certain minimum if their mood is below that value, so that for instance it would slowly raise mood to a certain point and then stop this behaviour. But I'd also need to check the possibility of what this then means elsewhere in the code as I wouldn't want to remove prison breaks or other mental breaks as events altogether.
keylocke 5 Mar, 2020 @ 9:59pm
does it also provide mood buff for prisoners?
[TTV] pumacatrun2 24 Feb, 2020 @ 9:59am
Thanks :)

Its pawns as pisoners in radius (same room)
[TTV] pumacatrun2 24 Feb, 2020 @ 7:52am
"Same room as the TV and a prison cell." Would this mod be compatible with the Locks mod (and by extension, Prison Labour which allows freetime) if I place a TV in a common room that the prisoners have access to? Would that compatibility be possible?

This is great, thank you !!!
