CAI 5000 seems to be different in many ways, including that it doesn't really account for light level the same way. Great if you just want a more dynamic combat experience, not so great if you're looking for that horror vibe (like I was)

@Siatru CAI 5000 is a better option as it has fully functional Fog of War, I recommend putting it to Easy mode or nullify the settings as much as possible if you're planning on using that.

Please do consider fixing the slow down, the other one added a much of buggy uneeded stuff which practically ruined it.
Maybe you can ask how he fixed the slow down?

Thank you to the uploader for your work in maintaining this mod and many others, but I recommend that people use の⁠ヮ⁠の's actively developed version of the Real Fog of War mod instead (as linked previously in the comments: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2560931731 ). Unless there is something you desperately need from this legacy version, the other option has interesting features and it doesn't suffer from this version's significant performance issues.

@Mlie The 'other version' mentioned below is actually a new 1.3 version (unless I totally misunderstood what you meant.) It's not either of the ones linked in the description on this page. Looks like they updated it with some options.
It's called (NWN) Real Fog of War. Not based on Yayo's version, but it looks like they added some mod options. So if it's any good, you might be all the way down to 504 mods! Shocking.

Just to clarify, it lags like crazy when one of your pawn is moving around and zoomed out, I believe the lag comes whenever the fog is updating.

Sadly, this new version causes crazy performance loss when zoomed out, anyone else having this issue? I never have this in 1.2.

is this based on a separate stat, or on the sight/hearing pawn capacity?

essentially, is it by default compatible with bionics from other mods, or do I need to make a comp patch?

I have a thing against snipers in Rimworld. Mainly cuz they always seem to take out my battery supply one way or another.

When i read it effects enemies too:
I find map with huge mountain in centre.
I mine out the whole centre except this 1 thick perimeter then build wall in that one square where i entered. I use the inside as my base, farm literally anything.
For all I know there is 1000 raiders outside looking for the mythical base.

SHORT EXPERIENCE WITH THIS MOD:
This is every effin' immersive, hearing fights in the distance where you're unaware of what happened, or your base is under attack and your people are getting killed and you're not aware where they're coming from, especially the damn xenomorphs or cosmic horrors that make so much damn noise but are scary.. e www. Zombieland where have to build walls but can't always see whats behind a wall, the fear you can be induced to have when you hear zeds trying to mine your walls.

Still has one of the stupid bugs that causes screen to go full FOG and the only way to potentially fix it is either a reload or restart...

Still a masterpiece though, you really need to be strategic with this, makes you very paranoid, especially when you use it together with Skr Darkness mod, zombieland, aliens versus predators, horrors, space worms and higher difficulties where sometimes paws that are either blind or low visibility won't see where enemies are shooting from, this makes snipers a terrible foe.
Truly recommended.

I only wish that the damn parrot was something else instead of a inanimate animal, otherwise, an uneskippable mod for those looking to increase immersion and wants a harder world.

It's an excellent mod and I'm happy it has returned! I have played with it extensively with 299 other mods (!!) and Combat Extended without issue.

I suggest though to double the view range of colonists, for less annoyment.

Can someone make a fog of war but for the planet? Hear me out: Start out in fog, form caravans to scout and discovered factions which are hidden by default until encountered by line of sight or event.
