this is awesome, thank you so much

@Raptor Jesus I've added a workaround to let superAdmins edit this addon's cvars. I also ran into a few other issues that I hadn't detected before (and that for some reason no one has reported), because I've previously only been testing in p2p/singleplayer. I've fixed most of those, though the 2 options at the bottom of the menu (disableStaticSelfIllum & disableStaticAmbLight) currently still only work in singleplayer. I'll get around to fixing those too at some point, but I've updated the addon with the current changes in the meantime.
Raptor Jesus 7 jul @ 6:14
my issue is that i can't seem to change the skybox at any level of permission in this case.
Raptor Jesus 7 jul @ 6:05
can you make a permissions/access change so that this can be used by admins on dedicated servers? thank you, this addon works great besides this!
TMTx Demmon 1 jul @ 16:47
also it freezes my pc
TMTx Demmon 1 jul @ 16:47
mat specular 0 to 5 seconds, you may freeze """"""""""""temporaly"""""""""" when this happen, dude i had to restart my pc 2 times when i enabled that option, what it does
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 14 jun @ 4:46
It should still be there. I haven't updated the addon recently, and I still have it on my end. Are you sure you have the addon enabled?
mrdappletheepic 14 jun @ 4:38
where did the light editor go its gone from the editors
einius07 21 maj @ 10:54
oh
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 21 maj @ 9:12
You need to set that yourself. Spawn a sky-editor from the entities tab of the spawn menu and configure it with that.

If that doesn't do anything, then set skyname to "painted" at the top of the light/environment editor menu. Whether or not you need to do that will depend on the map (construct and flatgrass already have an editable sky by default, but a lot of maps won't).

The first video at the top is a tutorial. If you mean you don't know how to change the sky's colour: There's a built in editor-entity for that in the entities tab of the spawn menu.

How To Make Night Mode?

I dont know:steamsad:

Dreamed of a addon like this many years ago. Thank you for your work

Where do you find it

TheUltimateDemon are you proposing global illumination? If so, good luck to your computer.
TheUltimateDemon 15 jan @ 18:36
I Would Have Imagined This Would Be Able To Change The Color of the Atmosphere lighting and all that.
idiot 31 dec, 2024 @ 19:33
ah i see
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 31 dec, 2024 @ 0:01
Do you mean the actual physical sun in the sky or the sunlight in the map? You can do the former with vanilla Gmod's Sun Editor, but I don't have any way of changing the colour of the actual light.
idiot 30 dec, 2024 @ 20:34
is there any way to add an option that lets you change sun color?

does this work in rooms? or just outside
Rom blw.tf 22 okt, 2024 @ 11:34
Finally! I can turn gm_construct into a horror map!
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 12 okt, 2024 @ 12:50
It's a holdover from the original DOOM/Quake. This addon uses the same system that flickering lights use. Ordinarily that's determined by a sequence of letters indicating relative brightness levels, which makes some amount of sense for that application, but is obviously very limiting/arbitrary for anything else.

You can see a few examples on this page: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Lightstyle
I'm pretty sure there's a more in-depth explanation of the system somewhere on the valve developer wiki, but I'm not entirely sure where it is.
wolfrcats 11 okt, 2024 @ 15:48
Engine limits would be the cause if anything else
The Đoctor 11 okt, 2024 @ 13:24
source be like
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 11 okt, 2024 @ 1:10
I can't change the limit. The 1-26 numbers correspond to letter values which is why that really weird range exists.
wolfrcats 10 okt, 2024 @ 18:40
26 Shouldnt be the limit. I feel like thats already unfair. I would make night maps 1000 times brighter if I could. Lua editing wouldnt allow such thing

I just wanna give my thanks. This addon has been a godsend for my short film. It's been so important to have the lighting I need, especially being able to make it pitch black so I can add my own custom lighting to the scene.

Just overall great job on this and thank you!!
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 21 aug, 2024 @ 14:36
Set the skyname to "painted" in the text box at the top of the menu then spawn a sky editor and use that to mess with the sky. This addon only affects the map lighting itself.
TARELKIN 20 aug, 2024 @ 15:34
What should I do if my sky doesn't darken, only the surface darkens but not the sky?
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 7 aug, 2024 @ 19:12
I'm not entirely sure what that'd entail. Is there anything in particular this addon breaks with CSM?
Notispadiko 7 aug, 2024 @ 11:24
pretty cool, could you add a CSM compability?
Person Guy 30 jul, 2024 @ 19:27
how do you use the fog editor?
Luca1808 17 jun, 2024 @ 9:48
crashes gmod whenever Environment_ambientLightLevel is around 1
Gurt 9 jun, 2024 @ 23:52
ig you dont wanna do consol commands just get stormfoz 2, reason why i like this mod is it makes me feel like a nerd or a hacker or smth like that
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 1 jun, 2024 @ 17:40
In general or when you change a specific value? There are 2 options specifically there for disabling certain parts of props' lighting, but that shouldn't do anything unless you intentionally turn them on.
Empire BRISTIAN 1 jun, 2024 @ 10:04
for some reason this addon messes up the prop lighting

Thank you for fixing these bugs, much appreciated. fyi I opened up a couple more issues for some bugs I found.
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 12 maj, 2024 @ 23:51
@7777 Tʜɛ Ӻ๑๛∂ß¡tξr I don't have any plans to integrate support for other addons directly, but (if it's actually possible to do so) there's nothing stopping someone else from doing it. All of the values in this addon can be set by console commands, so it'd be relatively easily to make another mod set them (and I think there's at least 1 or 2 that already do that).
JonahSoldier  [skapare] 12 maj, 2024 @ 23:46
@Wolƒe Strider Shoσter Resolved 3 of them and left comments on the other 2. Sorry for the really slow response, I don't check this project often.
Wolƒe Strider 1 maj, 2024 @ 22:36
@=R.S.M.F= JonahSoldier Could you please check the GitHub issues for this addon?
7777 Tʜɛ Ӻ๑๛∂ß¡tξr 18 mar, 2024 @ 22:55
Can you please possibly add stormfox2 support, so we get actually dark nights?
