dude... this is... wow. incredible work! i'm from san diego but moved to australia a couple of years ago and i miss the zoo like crazy. being able to visit it through your amazing efforts is really emotional to me. totally magical

Its great to hear that this mega project is still being worked on, I'm never able to find solid recreations of parks in the USA on this game, but you've nailed it with this and the Houston Zoo. Can't wait for the future of this build!

@coachjason11 Thanks! The zoo is an on/off project as it is difficult to build many parts of this zoo. The zoo is still ongoing and I'm about half way through the africa rocks trail and reworking many other parts of the zoo.

I had the chance to visit the San Diego Zoo for the first time this past summer, and this is sooo good!

Alright everyone, the zoo is updated to v2 and to 50 percent completion or thereabouts. I know the v1 of the zoo covered more of the zoo but v2 covers much more detail of the zoo. THE ZOO IS TOO LARGE, 105 habitats for a complete zoo is beyond what the game can handle. Enjoy what I have covered, as I am not returning to this project.

are u finshed africa rocks bc planet zoo has the amur leopard and the riverhog and it wou;d be good if you can fishish it

Hi everyone! Work has resumed in the zoo solely focusing on rebuilding the entire entrance and hopefully cutting down the piece count to improve performance. The last estimate was near 30k pieces alone for the entrance so i plan on improving that.

Also the completion of africa rocks is high on the list, i cant say most exhibits will actually have animals considering many animals like the hamadryas baboon, gelada, rock hyrax and more are yet to make it to the game.

Other plans include on merging the tropical and arid packs into the zoo. The next update will most likely be near the end of summer.

I have in fact always loved San Diego Zoo

Huge new update to the zoo! Update 16 sees over a dozen new habitats added after realising completing the entire africa rocks was too much for the new year. Grassland dlc now required to see the cute wallaby in the koala habitats. Be sure to check the update notes on everything added as usual - new batch of custom media also uploaded

working on a large update to the zoo. Planning for a new year release with a minimum of 20 new habitats :)

Update 15 - Plaza at the panda canyon (if its even called that anymore) is added with a large gift shop + cafe. Also a new saltwater crocodile habitat added to the tiger trail (sub for Siamese crocodile)

Update 14 - Explore the first major section of the lost forest with the addition of the elevated boardwalk for the monkey trail. 4 new habitats added this update mainly monkeys/lemur

Update 13 - No animals this time but the fern canyon trail has finally been completed

Update 12 - new area in the lost forest - the orangutan trail is largely complete. A proboscis monkey habitat is paired with a much larger orangutan and siamang habitat with a cool climbing frame. The frame does not replicate the irl one but looks great

First update of resuming progress! - the entrance/parking has been totally reworked to correctly portray the true size

ah thanks for the comments, ill revise this zoo after my current oregon zoo build. Development is stopped for the time being but in no way is the zoo abandoned

oh my ive just seen that photo booth, and its detailed to the limit

maybe it would be too much work but you could try for logo's for example to use the screen things to make things very very detailed. But that might be going too far haha

Thanks rastaban, i have to thank frontier support with helping in a short notice. I did a clean install of my gpu and my horrid fps seems to have disappeared but yeah performance is still subpar since a reinstall wont fix a 7 year old laptop struggling to build

I may take your suggestion and actually ditch all my animals to improve the frames so i can continue building the zoo. Each habitat i can home the animals to ensure it works then sell them again , i will add a info sheet on google drive probably detailing all the habitat animal numbers for people who can run the zoo fine since i cant xD

I really dont want to abandon the project, this has been my dream planet zoo build since 2019 and my laptop says otherwise. I will either continue the frame of the zoo or possibly start the oregon zoo that dinokiddo requested.

I'm really sorry for you and the little death of your laptop ;) Maybe you can continue but without putting animals in the enclosures. The problem comes from the RAM, the GPU or something else? very bad news i hope you'll be back soon

Bad News :(

Development is to be halted for the near future at least, near 7 years of steam is the lifespan of heavy gaming from this laptop - i can still run the game just not in full performance. My last zoo could run at 17 fps while fully built. Now i can barely run it at 4.

I mean the laptop barely met the minimum requirements xD, so yeah i can start any other irl zoos with like 2 or 3 habitats in the meantime

Note i am not abandoning this project at all, i just need a new one before i can reboot the series

Basically was fine on 20th july then started to slow down, i blame that heatwave but 7 years is a heck of a long time for a laptop. Anyways i thank the support and hope to continue asap

So is it possible to put an animal pannel in front of these enclosures with a sheet on the animal, or is that unnecessary for you?

binturong - fennec fox and another small animal. Theres absolutely no way in game the animals will fit in that so i just made them static scenery cages. You can compare the sizes of those cages to my fennec fox and binturong habitats in the explorer basecamp to see what the minimum requirement is

Like in the basecamp the fennec fox habitat features fennec fox, prarie dog and burrowing owl irl - in game i just meet the fennec fox size requirement

yeah if you look under the path on the way to the bus station - you can see the 4x4 tracks are just below the path surface to make it appear as it is driving on the paths. I have tested out the ride a couple times now (using a temporary loop) and it works out great. The rides even stop for guests to cross the path before continuing.

So i have altered the proposed bus stops and are following the kangaroo stops seen on the zoo map. So the stops are - bus station, lost forest/asian passage junction, near the cougar habitat in northern frontier, just below the andean condor habitat where the elephant odyessy bus road connects, and the station you can see which is the urban jungle

glad to have seen a "bus stop". how do you want to do the rails? invisible under the surface or not

oh yeah the rhino feeder is wild xD
the koala cart is a occasional drink bar i think. I just decided to make it appear closed due to every video it is in - its not open. Thanks again for the feedback :)

What's Koala Cart IRL (Food ?) there is a little bug with hanging feeder in rhino habitat it moves on its own :)
