Make multiple boxes with different costs
Handicraft trade goods :current one
Luxury trade goods : uses gold or jade, costs more needs extra skills (artist, good for leveling it up without the issue of getting clogged with awful statues)
Medical goods :uses herbal medicine/drug plants needs intellectual
Food supplies trade goods : needs food, uses cooking
That should cover it all
not sure if you know what mod I'm talking about, but basically you can make coins from almost any material and the value is equalish to whatever that material is. So if you're like me and you hate Jade with a passion, you can divvy it up into coins to help trading more equal. Like if I sell stuff worth 1535 and they have 1555 and I have nothing to make up for that small of a gap price, I could sell a few coins to make up for it. Really nifty mod for people like me that have a guy cutting stones 24/7
Had to delete my comment and remove the part of the "mystery" box, turns out the guy right below me had the exact same idea before me lol (It pays to read comments some times)
Quote, "I'm still iffy on plants because it's 1 item, 2 wood per crate - should a $1 plant be worth $5 just because there's $2 of wood around it?"
I think a solution is to divide this up into a few separate categories of stuff to sell.
In my mind, these things could be sold as a "Mystery box" where the player's colonists tell the trader that the box is sold "as is", with no refunds and no information on what it contains. (Like a reverse of the "Loot Boxes" mod.)
I do agree that stuff like corpses, rotten items, chunks, and stumps should be allowed, but this should definitely be in the "Cheap" or "Misc" category where the player is lucky to trick a trader out of a few silver for that.
Perhaps other categories could be like Food, Materials, Weapons, etc?
Ok, chunks, stumps, and buildings can be allowed I feel (if you really want to take a huge loss on a building instead of deconstructing it). I'm still iffy on plants because it's 1 item, 2 wood per crate - should a $1 plant be worth $5 just because there's $2 of wood around it? Come to think of it - that feels familiar from grocery shopping lately. Hrmm. "Food" for thought.
Corpses, rotten items, plants, chunks, and stumps should be able to be inserted. Obviously, living things should not be allowed for good reason. Only Mini-fied Buildings should be boxed.
Here's a better idea: call the ROOT Trade Good Box a "Loot Box". Place anything that isn't alive in it, sell it for something like five or six pieces of Silver, and hope for the best!
Additionally, I'm putting filters in place - no corpses, rotten items, plants (we're not boxing $1 worth of plants to sell for $7), chunks, stumps, buildings, animals, foods, silver, wood, steel. There are probably modded items that should be disallowed; if made aware I can disallow them.
I welcome additional suggestions and feedback. I'm going to be testing all this and determining a value for the trade item, etc., see how things are feeling in an actual *game* (it seems like I spend more time modding than playing lately - occupational hazard!) ... thanks!
My 2 cents: Yes, please, do try add some patches for traders added by mods. I like to use such mods.
