This needs an update. nyaa-

My game crashes when I try to use this skybox. The error message say something about reactor output is set to NaN. I've no idea if this is just for me, but if it isn't I really hope you fix it because this is one of my favorite skyboxes(it used to work for me before.) Maybe it has something to do with the recently introduced oxygen farms (because they use solar power). I dunno.
Nagisa 1 Apr, 2015 @ 10:29am
well this mod doesnt work for me doesnt change anything
Omega Ryu 28 Mar, 2015 @ 3:29pm
@jarhead
sadly you can't change the power of the sun settings, i have tried but i managed to "nerf"the solarpanels instead ;)

You could have a sun but no light. Just change the light settings as well as ambiant light settings. this should allow for up to 99% darkness, meateors, and 1% of solar panel use. The 1% of solar panel use will mean that the solar panels will only put out up to 1% of their total when pointed directly at the sun (would not be visable to us) and that in turn means they are still useless.

I comfirm, unfortunuatly this skybox no longer work properly =(
Ember 12 Mar, 2015 @ 9:59pm
it seems that after the latest update, all light sources no longer work

This is quite awesome. Its like a massive storm cloud comes over your base and everything becomes dark (added mod to my current world).
Since keen fixed some of the bugs with the spotlights, this is REALLY sweet :) Good Idea
FlamingNinja 5 Oct, 2014 @ 6:50am
Ted, yes, this is the skybox BradPhusion uses
KaRaSu©- Chilled 2 Da Soul 14 Sep, 2014 @ 2:29pm
This is the same one that
BRADPHUSION uses isn't it?
Kiwi 31 Aug, 2014 @ 7:15pm
is there any way to make finding an asteroid easier. im having some real trouble
Sykken 29 Aug, 2014 @ 5:41pm
They should have power output based ship detection, so if you want to be harder to find you could supress your reactors output and work on a restriction to avoid detection, wheras stations with massive energy-wells would be detected very easily from very far away.

Just started playing this tonight. Found my first (and only so far...) asteroid from the LACK of stars at that point. Disassembled the ship's Connector to make a spotlight and some interior lights for the exterior. Sure enough, even lit up like Time Square I lost my ship in the dark and was at 25% power when I found it. Great map so far! Has a real feeling of tension!

I kinda find it funny how everyone thinks there should be sonar added to the game. If Keen SWH is trying to keep it a little more realistic, or they ever plan on adding oxygen, you can't have sonar. Why? Because, sonar requires sound waves, sounds waves require air/oxygen. That's not to say there should be no sound in Space Engineers, I'm just saying, it physically wouldn't work.

I'm Using this mod for my current (and first) Let's Play Video on my channel, I Put a link to this mod in the description, awesome mod, its like putting Space Engineers into hardcore mode. :cgrazz:
KILLFUCC SOULSHIEITTER 14 Aug, 2014 @ 9:42am
If i may, Please make one with no stars and a sun.
plaYer2k 13 Aug, 2014 @ 4:54am
I didnt see any improved spotlights before, and thus i coincidentially made one today too.

I however made that for the shader darkness mod which still has a sun and is local only so far.
But the usability is the same for both modes :)

Some may also be interested in using some of those https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/filedetails/?id=299353805 as they remove many light effects which are especially noticeable and maybe annoying with that degree of darkness.
Greyson XMG 11 Aug, 2014 @ 6:43pm
As I underand it, there is a new modpack that will incude a amped up spotlight. This will make this modpack a lot more playable.

ALSO, the eventual inclusion of RADAR/DRADIS type system might make this type of skybox a lot more fun.
deepcut 11 Aug, 2014 @ 6:20pm
I feel like this would be more fun with some kind of mini-game map designed to be used with it. I don't personally much enjoy not being able to see what I'm doing as a mechanism in games.
Justin 11 Aug, 2014 @ 1:28pm
I just had an idea. What if you "Could" Idk if you can. Make a block called radar module or whatever you want to call it. And you place it on your ship. And it shoots out waves of sound. Just like sonar. And if they bounce back (within 3000 or maybe up to 5000 meters) It would place a beacon there saying Approximate location of solid mass. this way you could find asteroids. Or cargo ships or maybe even other players. I don't know what's possible with modding so that's why I said "could".
Justin 11 Aug, 2014 @ 9:56am
I like it but i'm having a really hard time finding asteroids. Do you think you could make a mod that adds better spot lights?? I'm trying to use the background to help but from a distance. You really can't see that big of a gap between the stars.
Cortez 11 Aug, 2014 @ 2:05am
Please add for workshop skybox - coruscant
JayMole77 10 Aug, 2014 @ 8:44pm
Greyson thats because of our artifical lighting all around the world now, a century ago a moonless night was total blackness.
Greyson XMG 10 Aug, 2014 @ 12:08pm
Well done, but just a skosh too dark. Ships should be seeable without lighting, but just barely. Imagine a moonless night. Things can still be seen, just in a Dark Ghostly kind of way.
Space Brick 10 Aug, 2014 @ 11:13am
imagine the posibilities for pvp! no more xyz crap maps!! we can just hide in the shadows
Rynoth 10 Aug, 2014 @ 10:36am
NOW i have a use for all those light
LeRoy 10 Aug, 2014 @ 10:26am
day night woulb be hard with nothing for the sun to hide behind
MrFancypants 10 Aug, 2014 @ 9:14am
perfect
austinscriv 10 Aug, 2014 @ 8:29am
you should make it so there is a day and night cycle
DeusWilk 9 Aug, 2014 @ 6:40pm
Thanks!
WarBaby 9 Aug, 2014 @ 4:31pm
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
Selwin 9 Aug, 2014 @ 9:30am
awesome mod
COMMANDER Striker 9 Aug, 2014 @ 9:16am
it is stil good in all real life in space. i mean do you want to look at a sun 24-7?
Talltrea 8 Aug, 2014 @ 8:28pm
Me and my friend jumped in a world a little iffy about it but after locating an astroid after an hour of searching on an astroid map were suck wondering what we'll do when we relise theres no uranium on our astroid in the middle of no where... lovely map!
Feral 8 Aug, 2014 @ 7:12pm
Would love to see a just slightly brighter version.
The Engineer 8 Aug, 2014 @ 6:22pm
OH HEY- Just a thought but a good skybox would be a distant sun skybox. Very dim but with a possible light source in the far distant space. This is just a HAIR too dim for anything productive with the current light engine as it is.
The Engineer 8 Aug, 2014 @ 6:20pm
Crashed every ship I owned. Cried in base. Got lost in own base. Got lose inside asteroid mine. Fixed all my ships. Died four times.
11/10

I like the very empty and suspicious feel of this skybox. Nice work!
Digitalshrug 8 Aug, 2014 @ 1:28am
Excellent idea. Makes solo survial harsher and eerie. Feels like you are infact stranded in space, and imparts the feeling of how immense and lonely space is. Works very well with the crashed red ship world. Gives the lighting mechanic a much greater importance.
ExavierMacbeth 7 Aug, 2014 @ 9:16pm
Is it possible to have the pitch black shadows but still have a skybox with a sun in it? Wanted to set up a server where you needed lights on the shadow side of objects but solar/meteors where still viable.
Taylor Machine 7 Aug, 2014 @ 7:19pm
10/10
Alexander the grape 7 Aug, 2014 @ 6:54pm
Just tried this in survival. Absolutely terrifying, had to stop playing, 10/10
Varlun 7 Aug, 2014 @ 5:35pm
I'll probably use this! My only concern with your pitch black map was that I might not be able to locate asteroids. This is perfect.
