If you speak to Dianthus again, does he tell you to go away, or does he tell you about the gate again. And you loaded the save from disk so you're using the latest version?
It might work if you use a save from before entering the tower with the latest version so it loads again completely, but that would mean you have to do the whole tower again.
The problem is unfortunately the result of an oversight of mine during creation, which miraculously hasn't come up thus far. The updates I've made so far should prevent it happening in the future, but unfortunately you're right in the middle of it which makes fixing it a little more complicated.
-lvl 2: after reporting about the 1st two cooks
-lvl 3: end of "Infiltrators" quests
-lvl 4: end of "Investigation" quest
-lvl 5: end of "Evacuation" quest
-lvl 6: end of "The Black Crow Inn" quest
-lvl 7: end of "Off To See The Wizard" quest
-lvl 8: end of "Stabbing the Bloody Heart" quest
-lvl 9: At the locked door in the "Destroying the Gate" quest
-lvl 10: end of "Destroying the Gate" quest
However, especially the last few levels, depending on sidequests, how you approach "Stabbing The Bloody Heart" and how many fights you do in the last dungeon, you can easily hit lvl 10-12 before the final fight. In testing I tended to hit it at lvl 10/11 with a 4-man party. Balance is very difficult at lvl 9, difficult at 10 and somewhat difficult at 11. (I wanted the last fight to be memorable.)
Where are you currently in the main quest? The fireplace exit shouldn't have shown up until after you could level to 2. I'm having a look now, and it looks like there might be an issue with the door showing up too early.
I tried to put at least some basic crafting recipes in, but I often forget that crafting is even an option when playing myself, so I didn't pay a great deal of attention to it. I also didn't want to put in recipes without making sure the ingredients were available. If I do another update in the future I might take another look at this, so thank you for the feedback!
My only real complaint was a lack of vendors selling interesting stuff, and a lack of crafting recipes generally. But overall one of my faves of the 10+ user scenarios I've played.
In the alchemy lab it is on a table right in front of where you are teleported in, that will activate another dialog on the wall behind te teleporter and things will be clearer from there (I don't want to spoil the puzzle) though you might have to mouse over some props later to find everything. (The lights in the tower are just lights, I just like the way the look.)
Anyway, great adventure and I recommended it, thank you!
I wish there were some textual clues about the different types of same-named Manacalon Constructs (Golems) to help identify what type they were and which elemental effects to use -- or avoid using. The final construct, for example, could have a clue that it was made of ice so I would have known to watch out for cold-based attacks and use fire-based attacks. A previous construct, however, was healed by fire (like an lron Golem) so I would "probe" each one with different attacks before unleashing my big spells.
I am at the spot where I expect to be able to use it but the only options are Drop and Close and I cannot equip it. Interacting with the (target) just results in "Door cannot be opened." The firebomb is an ingredient but I doubt that I can (or need to) craft anything with it. So close!
The number of constructs (Golems) in the final caverns gets a bit tedious after the first few encounters. I recommend reducing the size of the area and removing a few constructs or replacing them with some different like Elementals.
The report to General Tremane is in the ruined village on top of the mountain, I should clarify that in the quest. Then you get the final quest to speak to the Lady Warder, which gets you some final loot, ( and the thanks of a grateful stronghold ;) ). It also activates the campaign exit.
I've made my way back to the main stronghold's "War Room" and reported to General Tremane. He just says "Good luck" and the quest status didn't progress.
After the gate destruction and that room's battle, the quest is to go back to report to the general. I made my way back up through a couple of maps, to the crystal cavern. When trying to exit from that map (at the virtual door in front of the upstairs model) the game crashes with a message of "The target entrance index is invalid: 1"
Fortunately it's possible to go back down to the destroyed gate and then exit that level by choosing the second of the two offered destinations. It was called the "ruined gate" (IIRC). I'd not taken that choice earlier because I thought it meant the campaigns major ruined gate just a few feet away on the current level. Fortunately it was a far less important ruined gate, so I got out.
It also sounds like you were on the way out after killing everyone inside, in that case the later waves of enemies shouldn't have happened because everyone was already supposed to be dead. That's a bug I've fixed already.
Though this does remind me that now, if you come up from the tunnel and head for the gate from the outside to kill the last few enemies, the gate is hard locked and you can't reach anyone beyond that at all. I'll have to fix that as well. Anyway, thank you for the information, it's definitely helpful.
I came up from the underground and made it to the gate. That started the battle, but I had the initiative to pass through the entry and cast spikes behind me. After that it took a turn to get positioned to shoot everything that came out. Got out of range and the mages chased. My guys are all deadeye with multiple shots. I almost ran out of crossbow bolts.
I made a couple of attempts at taking on the Bloody Heart village frontally, and nearly succeeded both times, but was undone by the baddies' mages being able to cast spells through walls (not just Lightning Bolt either!), and I couldn't attack them back. After two loooong battle failures, I decided to take them on via the pipe.
After finishing all of them off one room at a time, I had two thoughts: "That was MUCH easier", and "I never noticed the enemy scout in any of the room-by-room battles. I bet he's still hiding in that bush out by the front gate. I wonder what'll happen if I let him 'catch us' again."
So I walked out of the village's front gate, the scout leapt out, then a WHOLE lot of familiar baddies turned up ready to do battle (again). You need to turn that off.
Otherwise going well. Thanks.
It was a long fight but not difficult. I put spikes at the entry, stood back, and shot them as they came out. Took almost no damage.
My one complaint was lack of shops. I ended up with a massive amount of gold and crafting components, but no way to use them.
But overall, this was an excellent campaign that makes good use of the world map and requires smart play. I enjoyed having the NPC followers. The cleric was quite valuable. Highest rating.
I'm glad you found a workaround and can continue with the campaign. I hope you'll continue to enjoy the rest of it.
I reloaded a QuickSave taken after my last farming battle, walked into the room for 1st time, and nothing.
Because the "As you press the final button..." message came 1 battle early, I reloaded an earlier QuickSave, made just BEFORE my last farming battle. Instead of doing that battle, I walked into the treasure room -- and everything worked perfectly!
It seems that the bug is something that occurs if the player fights ALL of the button battles (maybe doing the last/extra battle turns the treasure room's activator off). Another factor might (or might not) be that the treasure room's door was open during those battles, as I'd already 'solved' the riddle).
BTW, during the fight I was looking forward to seeing what loot the two high-level-ish combatants would drop after I killed them. I was disappointed that they dropped nothing. Can I suggest you give them some drops?
Please let me know if walking up doesn't work (you need to be right in front of them). I thought I had ironed out the bugs in that quest, but I might have missed something.
If it matters, I got the gate to open by doing two of the button battles, then I did what the riddle required, and then I did all the rest of the button battles too -- for XP farming! -- and only then entered the treasure room. Maybe that double-activating the entrance somehow disabled what is meant to happen in the room? Or maybe I'm just dumb?
BTW, During the process of farming all the button battles, near the end, a popup message appeared saying "As you press the final button, ..." I could be wrong, but I think that message appeared when I pressed the PENULTIMATE button (i.e. one button early). After that battle, I was still able to press another button to get one more battle.
