i've published a small update to the mod to address some visual shortcomings of the ascii-mode experience. Special thanks to Zombie Giant Sponge for pointing them out.

@Illustrious Illusionist i've assigned those permissions to any of my own modded civs and you can definitely add them onto anyone else's as well, but whether they will still work if you've already generated the world before doing so, is doubtful!

Cave cocoa did appear as an embark item, it's just the confectionary that's not appearing as an option to build.

I play with several modded civs, and I absolutely don't expect this to work with those by default, but - do you know if it might be possible to paste the "permitted buildings/permitted reactions" text lines into a civ's entity document after world gen? I definitely have the mod installed, but the building isn't showing up.

Also, it won't let me grind cave cocoa into cocoa powder for some reason?

I can't make anything because it says I need syrup, even though I've devoted my fort's entire agricultural capacity to making it for the last year.

@pingin yeah the stockpiling is not precise right now. gelatin just says [stockpile_glob] though so it was kind of news to me that it translates ingame to specifically fat. im not sure if i can invent my own stockpile categories but im interested in doing so
pingin 10 Mar, 2024 @ 9:11pm
Ah nevermind - found it under "Fat"
pingin 10 Mar, 2024 @ 9:11pm
What is gelatin categorized as? I'm trying to designate a stockpile for it

Very interesting! Will give it a try

@stormwolf442 i believe they retail at cheese prices, so nothing special! but if you want a candy fortress, i believe it could be an interesting challenge to survive on only confections and no prepared meals!

How decent are these as trade goods? I feel like a candymaker fortress would be super cool to try out if it was practical!

very cool

someone should do a dwarf santa run. maybe you could achieve world peace.

Thanks for considering my ideas! You have any ideas about how to use Royal Jelly? It goes unused in the vanilla game. Looking forward to try this mod out!
ryno  [author] 6 Mar, 2024 @ 3:27pm
@Skizmo the idea of adding a new job to convert syrup into sugar sounds great so I will probably add that. As for creating pastries, I cannot in good faith add that feature alongside the standard confections due to it's overlap with the vanilla prepared meals logic. Cakes and pies and whatnot feels too overlapping with vanilla "biscuit" types, and I'm also a fan of the More Food Names mod which even further claims pastry territory. On that note I am also interested in adding ice cream, but again it's hard to find a proper place for it.

So happy someone else had the idea of a Dwarven Candy mod! Here where some of my ideas I had, they had a more of a bakery influence.
"Make Gem Candy" Turn sugar into an edible Gems. Should be able to function as a Gem like in encrusting and making Gem windows. Different colors for the different sugars might be a nice touch.
"Bake Cake" Flour + Milk + Egg + Sugar (should have a happy thought when eaten)
"Bake Honey Tart" Honey + Flour
"Bake Royal Tart" Royal Jelly + Flour
"Granularize syrup or honey" turn syrup or honey into a sugar
Any way to make these and your recipes to be able to use any sugar or syrup? There are mods that add different varieties of sugar and syrup.

Ah man, the update sounds very nice
CocoBat 4 Mar, 2024 @ 3:04pm
Very cool, I like this concept a lot

This would be perfect for a festive-theme fortress. I look forward to trying this!
