I know this is a necropost but it's so frustrating reading comments like 'they only carried'. How many arrows do you think the archers at Agincourt started the battle with? fifty each, how many did they fire ? hundreds each. The same kind of math works for almost every soldier carrying expendable weapons into action. A cohort in heavy action will use those held by the front lines, then either rotate the men or pass more Pila forward. Behind the lines is the camp or wagons with many more, constantly being passed to the battlefront where needed.
An Advancing unit held up by a well defended enemy will have many Plia passed to them . like resupply of hand grenades or machine gun belts or magazines of bullets. All the same thing. At Rorkes drift 100 hundred men fired over 10,000 single-loaded rounds fighting off the Zulu's. How to realistically portray that in TW is to have limitless ammunition all units, because it's too stupid to know if a unit is cut off from resupply

First of all, a big thank you to all my subscribers for your support! I have changed my computer recently, and I no longer have the editing tool I had before. Also, as my job now is taking a lot of my time, unfortunately I will not be able to update my mods as frequently as I would love to. So please consider my mods as open-source, and you can download it and edit it freely. Again, thank you so much for your support! I will still be around:steamhappy:

@Roger_Sartet I think Roman Pilum II is more realistic, and this one, Roman Plilum, will make the Roman legions super strong, and you can easily take on numerically superior enemy armies with Roman confidence. You can try playing the campaign on legendary difficulty with Roman pilum.

many thanks

How can I choose between both Pilas?
Roger_Sartet 25 Dec, 2017 @ 12:49pm
A question. What is better? Roman Pilum or Roman Pilum II.

this mod is totally unrealistic far too much ammo more like a machine gun. im sure the Romans would of only carried no more than 3 pilums

I only see a "toggle fire at will" button...
prohan  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 5:33am
@Finland's Famous Philly It's the same as other ranged units, there is an arrow botton at the right bottom corner when you highlight a unit, and click on it to choose the type the amuuntion to fire.

How do I switch between regular Pila and Heavy shot?

Looks like this mod is cool, I just tested it, in the mod manager interface, tick the "enable outdated mod" and it works! You get firing at will with Roman legions, who can now do killing spree and can also fire a heavy shot that lowers enemy defence

Also I have a feeling that many are now playing Attila, looks like it's a better game than rome 2, is that right? I haven't bought Attila yet

@amilius Hi! Thank you very much for your comment! I am flattered since this is my first mod (Using google translate I managed to understand what you said here :)

Лучший мод для тотал вара, который только применял. С ним игра за римлян совершенно преображается! Пилумы используются на всю катушку! Всем советую попробовать :-)

@A1mighty_phate|HG I agree that pilum should have a very short range due to its weight. I think what I can do is, I can lower the range a bit more for post-marian legions to 70 or even 60, but increase the damage the pilum cause. Also being inspired by other's mod, I think I can probably add a melee defence penalty to those units hit by pilum, refelcting the historical fact that pilum has ruined their shields, give me some time and I will work on it ;)

having said that i just tried the pilum II versionand it seems to work pretty well! :D
A1mighty_phate 19 Oct, 2014 @ 8:41am
Depending how realistic you want to make this --- in terms of range, a pilum was heavier than a Javlin (although i believe they basically carried one of each) ..so to balence the range vs damage, I'd say probably use a stat figure a bit under the regular javlin 70?. reading what you've put though i think the idea of more experienced troops hitting more (ie the range increase) is a good idea, is there an accuracy stat in there? - rather than longer range you could set the more experienced troops to have a higher accuracy, so a short range kept at 60, but a more devistating barage than the less experienced troops as they pick their targets - similar to life. :)

@iftlc to tell you the truth, before I uploaded this mod, I have once set the range for legions to be 100! and they are too deadly, and acts more like musketeers, people just can't get to them :) So I decided that shorter range is probably better. I have also uploaded a second version of this mod called roman pilum II, the ammo has been greatly reduced now!
prohan  [author] 18 Oct, 2014 @ 8:39pm
@A1mighty_phate|HG hey A1mighty, thank you for the suggestion! I just made another mod called Roman Pilum II, the ammo has been reduced to 2 for the legions, although I suspect 2 probably means more than 2 pila, but it is used up pretty quickly.
iftlc 18 Oct, 2014 @ 10:57am
could u bump up the range to like way before they get attacked and about the too much ammo
can u do it before the battle is over
A1mighty_phate 18 Oct, 2014 @ 6:15am
Great idea, I was looking for a mod like this a while ago. In terms of Ammo though - Legionaries only carried two pila each. You should not overkill the mod by giving too much ammo :)

Great mod mate well done!
