New update! Ambient sound reductions are back. This only affects the loudest ambient sounds in the game. Most of them were untouched because they're already quiet. Planes flying overhead in The Parish are no longer ear-splitting loud, but they're still kinda loud because planes. Forgot to mention in the notes that I fixed a distortion issue with the knife's deploy sound and lowered it, too. It sounded like it was being sharpened inches from your ear whenever you picked it up or pulled it out.

Thanks! Didn't know that.

if you get any weird loud screeches, you could snd_rebuildaudiocache;exit

new update :)

I recently discovered that an ambient sound was causing some light distortion. I'm not sure which sound it was, though I suspect it was one of a few that I removed. They were already relatively quiet compared to most sounds in this mod, so the overall impact this will have is minimal. The cricket bat also got toned down a bit.

Okay so, I tested it some more. I disabled all my addons and played only with this enabled. The screech that played every now and then now it's seems gone, so apparently it was caused by some addon I have, although I'm not sure which one is the culprit. I'll try to pinpoint which addon is causing it. Once I find it I'll comment it here, guess it can be helpful to anyone suscribing to this mod.

What I did found is the screeching with the tower alarm at the second chapter of The Parish. Guess I didn't notice it before because sound screeching works weird, I'm talking from experience. Sometimes it plays an almost unperceptible *pop* and sometimes it plays that horrid screeching noise I told you about.

Probably is a conflict with another mod. Lemme do some further testing.

I played through that campaign and only had issues with the overhead jets. I didn't touch any of the other sounds, so they're the same as before. I'll play through again to see If I can hear any more problems.

How weird, now I can sometimes hear a buggy little screech like sound every now and then but I'm not sure what's causing it. Also the tower alarm in the second chapter of The Parish is also bugged. I can hear that screechy sound each time the alarm sounds. And I think it was working fine before the update

Thanks a lot!

Fixed! :)

Hey man, I just found another issue. One of the sounds of the jets from The Parish has an awful distortion that makes it sound like earrape. Could you take a look at it please?

Figured out what the issue was with the MP5, molotov, and rain sounds. The original files were rendered at a lower bitrate. I rendered them at the higher bitrate that matched all of the other sounds in the game. Changing the bitrate of sound files causes distortion when playing them back in the game but not in Windows. No idea why they would render such a small percentage of sounds at a lower bitrate, but figuring this out should prevent any problems like this from occurring in future updates.

@TJoyfulMouseboy565 Thanks! Much appreciated.

@Captain23rd it doesn't directly increase the volume of music, but it will make music easier to hear over gunfire.

Cool! Thanks for all the fixes. As far as I've played haven't noticed anything else wrong, but I'll let you know if I do. Now I can say this mod is a must have for anyone who values their hearing and don't want their ears to bleed with the default sound mix.

Great work! Have an award :)

So wait does this mean this will make music mods louder?
Kn0xy J0hnville  [author] 20 Jul, 2024 @ 9:59pm
@TJoyfulMouseboy565 All of those should be fixed now. I accidentally copied the AK gunfire over the M16's.

Thanks for the update! Just a few more things:

Now the Pump Shotgun pumping sounds are good, but the Chrome Shotgun pumping sounds are still loud for some reason.

Also the Scout gunfire is still ear raping loud. Do you think you could do the same you did with the chrome shotgun gunfire? Also maybe turn it down a bit?

Also is the M16 using the AK47 gunfire sounds intentional?

Besides that I haven't found any other issue in my testing, so that should suffice.

@TJoyfulMouseboy565 Just published the update. Should be better now.

Hey, just wanted to say the pumping sounds of the T1 shotguns sound noticeably louder than the rest of the sounds. Could you level those sounds too please?
