This mod's lighting reminds me of XCOM EW's ambience, and that's a good thing. Fantastic mod and highly recommended.

@Panos Sigma
Thanks, I put the guide in the description as well. I will think about swapping the default options, though.

@Aquilio
Thanks for the quick reply and the tip, although I know how to disable command lines. That imgur link should be at your mod description for everyone else though, because I think that the majority of the ppl would prefer the brighter option. For me it's preferable to able to see the map than having a super dark mode which adds nothing to the game and it makes it less enjoyable to position your troops strategically. I've tested both your lighting modes (default and brighter) and I'm sure that default is a big no-no for me.

Anyway, after playing XCOM 2 for the zillionth time you want to add some spice to the mix and this mod didn't do it for me. Thanks for sharing your work though, I like some of your other mods more.

@Panos Sigma
I'm not sure this alone warrants a separate release. If you need to set the bright night variants as default, you need to do this: https://imgur.com/a/Yos4wpe

The city maps during nights is like a total power blackout, making the game lose all of its subtle cyberpunk vibe and colours. I think that you should release an alt version of this mod with the brighter settings enabled as the default option because not everyone is familiar with coding and tweaking .ini files or has the patience to learn to do so. Plus, it's the most common "complaint" you got for the mod (that it's too dark).

@Aquilio Thank you for the brighter night map variants! :steamthumbsup: :steamthis:
Zoinho1 14 Oct, 2024 @ 1:24pm
Aquilio I found another ""issue"", on a night map after a grenade toss the whole map get fully bright. But after I hacked the terminal with my Specialist, the map returned to its normal dark night.

Maybe it's just my PC that's having trouble running the game, but who knows, it might be a bug.

UPDATE:
Added the brighter versions of the four night maps as an alternative (disabled by default).
You can enable them in the XComMaps.ini file.

Please keep in mind the brighter map variants require the DLC packs as well.

@Aquillio I have not had the stormy night scenario as of yet. However, even under normal night conditions I feel the darkness can be a tiny bit lighter. It really can be a strain to see at times. Having said that... Your lighting mods are very enjoyable. It almost feels like playing a new game. Excellent work! :steamthumbsup: :steamthis:

@rubyeye
Hi, thanks for letting me know. Do you still remember which type of the weather map was that (i.e. from the DLC pack or a different one)? If so, I'd appreciate if you could share the name, this console command can be useful for that. It would be a massive help for me, if possible.
rubyeye 8 Oct, 2024 @ 9:11pm
Hey Aquilio, just wanted to add my 2-cents as well regarding the darkness level. As much as I love this and your other companion mods, brightness really needs to be bumped up a bit ( maybe more than just a bit ).

I had a wilderness map set during a stormy night...it was so dark the only times I could actually see any tiles or enemy units was when lightning flashed, and I had to try to remember what the map layout looked like.
Luiscast23c 3 Oct, 2024 @ 9:54pm
Hi! beautiful mod, sorry to bother but is there somenthing i can do to aument the brightnes of the maps?? it is to dark for me to enjoy i can bareli see the tiles to move, but everthing normal in the avenger, thanks!!

Another one:

Those generate rarely, but all of those spawn in the base game without map mods.
Aquilio  [author] 23 Sep, 2024 @ 11:29am
You could even get conjoined stairways as well:

@Zoinho1
It was a cemetary Guerrilla Ops mission, right?
I ran a test map generator without any of my mods (on a minimal testing setup) and got a random layout similar to yours.

I genuinely think that those maps are slightly bugged, meaning that there might be stairway gaps when two specific cemetary map pieces are adjacent to each other, like shown on the picture.

I don't think it's specific to my mods. It's likely an unfortunate interaction between the map pieces from the base game, annoying as it might be.
Zoinho1 23 Sep, 2024 @ 9:32am
Damn, it's an Ironman campaign and I've already completed other missions after it (unless you can extract old data from Ironman save file). But I'll be on the lookout if it happens again.

And in my modlist, as far as I know, none of them are related to the map generator.

Aquilio  [author] 22 Sep, 2024 @ 2:55pm
I'd be also grateful for a modlist from the session where that screenshot was created.
Aquilio  [author] 22 Sep, 2024 @ 2:14pm
@Zoinho1
If this screenshot was taken without both of my mods enabled, then they're likely not involved in this glitch.

I'd appreciate if you did the following:
- play the same mission again (i.e. by loading a save)
- enter the X2DebugMap console command
- on the upper right side, there will be "Show Map/Hide Map" button.
- take a screenshot of the map (the one with the colored rectangles)

This way, I would actually know more about those map pieces.
Zoinho1 22 Sep, 2024 @ 1:49pm
I think now I have a real glitch to report. But first I have to mention that I subscribed to both mods (weather pack, DLC lighting), but they are not activated in my current campaign.

In the image, I hope you can see that there is a layout flaw. My skirmisher is next to a staircase that should lead to another building.

Sorry if this is annoying, but again, I don't know if it's yours or another mod that's changing the map layout or if I'm simply witnessing rare cases of natural map breaking.
Aquilio  [author] 22 Sep, 2024 @ 12:04pm
Thanks, glad you're enjoying those.
The Street Urchin 21 Sep, 2024 @ 4:26pm
These, along with your other mods have really injected new life into my current playthrough. The difference it is causing means I am finding I don't instantly recognise certain maps, and am enjoying newfound details and a lot of dynamic lighting which is now much more visible. Good work!
Aquilio  [author] 19 Sep, 2024 @ 11:14am
@Zoinho1
Base WOTC has a set of randomly chosen 3 bridge/train and 3 pier mission variants.

If you're running CI or LWOTC, then both overhauls might be spawning some covert ambush variants. Other mission mods could impact that as well.

Right now I'm unable to associate this behaviour with my mod, but I will keep an eye out for that regardless.
Zoinho1 19 Sep, 2024 @ 10:11am
I think it's generating new maps. And no, I'm not using a map mod (that i'm aware).
Look, I'm not 100% sure, but in cover ambushes they generally use the same map layout throughout the campaign (the game picks a type at the beginning and uses it for the rest of the campaign), at least it's always been that way for me in all my playthroughs. I had one where you started under a bridge and another where you started on a boat.

Again, I'm not sure about this, as you said, I may have just gotten "lucky" and always had the same map in cover ambushes.
Makk 10 Sep, 2024 @ 10:59pm
really enjoy these, including the darker night environment.
白洲 9 Sep, 2024 @ 7:30am
cool
Vaultwulf 8 Sep, 2024 @ 5:51pm
I agree. The nights appear a tad too dark. I had a night scenario in the CI Gatecrasher and it looked great but was a bit too dark. I'm not sure if it was this mod or your new weather mod. Amazing mods. They add so much to the experience. :steamthumbsup: :steamthis:
PatientLandBeaver 8 Sep, 2024 @ 2:37pm
@Aquilio Great mod and I haven't noticed any performance issue. My only feedback would be to brighten the night types while still still maintaining the overall mood/effect. Currently I really have to crank up the brightness several notches in the settings to compensate when it's active. Thanks again!
Aquilio  [author] 8 Sep, 2024 @ 10:48am
@Zoinho1
It's not supposed to touch the map layouts in any way. I also haven't encountered related issues so far. Perhaps you're running a mod which adds extra tunnel parcels (map pieces)?

In fact, I believe even the vanilla game or LWOTC had very rare issues related to shifted tunnel layouts.
Zoinho1 8 Sep, 2024 @ 10:41am
This doesn't change the map layout/generator, right? Only the weather will be randomized? I had an unusual tunnel map layout and would like to know if this was caused by your mod.
rubyeye 8 Sep, 2024 @ 9:36am
Aquilio, these mods are amazing! I'm trying each of them, there are no conflicts and no performance issues. Some night time maps, like in the city, may be too dark, but that's why I highly recommend using [WOTC] Advent Flashlights which really enhances the ambiance. :steamthumbsup:
Aquilio  [author] 8 Sep, 2024 @ 12:34am
@PatientLandBeaver Not really, I did not notice any performance impact that could be higher than in base game maps.
PatientLandBeaver 8 Sep, 2024 @ 12:30am
Will this have any affect on performance?
rubyeye 6 Sep, 2024 @ 4:35pm
Great! I'll give it a shot.
Aquilio  [author] 6 Sep, 2024 @ 4:18pm
@rubyeye No, those two can be used together. More lighting types will be added to the shared pool.
rubyeye 6 Sep, 2024 @ 3:46pm
Looks interesting, but will this interfere with [WOTC] Tunnel & Abandoned Lighting Maps ?
Specter37 6 Sep, 2024 @ 12:45am
is this okay to add mid campaign?
Max 5 Sep, 2024 @ 5:19pm
you light up my world, baby
Aquilio  [author] 5 Sep, 2024 @ 5:03pm
@Selmo You will simply add more lighting types to the roster if you use the other mod. You can use both at the same time.
