Well, if you have no experience modding Rome 2, maybe it would be best if you just give me a list of units you want their upkeep changed and how much.

Btw, GnaR, how to check the list of units for every faction with their upkeep expences. I'm quite far from moddng, so I have no idea about it.

It's meant to go up at Imperium 3. Rome starts at 2, so, you must have hit the 3rd Imperium. Happens after taking 2 minors and 1 capital, I think.

Yeah, upkeep goes up at 3, as you lose the -30% to upkeep from Imperium 2 (the starting Imperium). This means, you do gain a new province, and if you want to keep up your income, you must either rush more provinces, or increase your tax either by direct tax increase or through agents such as general traits or others.

I've since changed this in a new version. But the new version includes more armies, and restored difficulty AI bonuses.

I'm still testing it though.

Strange thing happened. In my current campaign (as Rome no less), I went from earning roughly 2500 per turn with Imperium 1, then almost the instant it hit Imperium 2, upkeep skyrocketed, to the point I was losing -300 per turn. Thought upkeep was meant to go down, not up, when reaching Level 2.

Take your time man. I'll just be standing by.

Sorry, I've had some troubles with my PC today. I'll do the task tomorrow.

Ok. I'll do it today.

If you can help me, list all the units you want their upkeep changed, and how much. There's just too many units for every era, and I just can't figure out which one is which.

Send it to me through here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?692485-all-new!-GnaR-s-DeI-Battle-Difficulty-Camera-and-Reforms-Sub-mod

I will then have it posted as a cooperative work by the two of us.

Would be wonderful! Thanks.

I'll think about it.

major bot*

1. Much more. For ex: In vanilla dei used to become 100g more expensive, now 500g more exp.
2. Weak units' cost don't really increases, strong units' cost increases a lot.
3. Yes, I think that major minor and player's factions should have penalties for maintaining troops on low emprie lvls (bots got less penalty, than player, and small states get very low penalty so as to make the game harder).

Okay, if I'm reading this right, you want:

1. Lower quality units have cheaper upkeep, high quality units have more upkeep.
2. If the player chooses to upgrade his units say from Marian to Imperial, then he will have to pay more now that they've been upgraded.
3. Factions with lower imperium will have upkeep penalties (which means increased upkeep) than those who have higher imperium.

Am I getting it right?

As far as I remember, the nomber of legions was always about 25-30. The Empire couldn't provide for more. The thing is that it would be glad to replace all upkeep penalties with high prices of maintaining high-quality units. For example: t8, half of the legions are patroling the Empire and its borders. Most of them have weak units, because they are intended more to make an impression of military persistance in the region, than to fight enemies, and anyway there's no strong enemies close to them. Why should they cost more than they used to with empire growth? They are not being updated, they are not fighting, why would they'r expences increase? I do understand, why it happens after reforms, but, as for me, There's no need in creating any upkeep penalties for them. Moreover, As for me, we should make the penalties larger on the early turms (firs 100), cause it is MUCH harder to maintain army for small and indeveloped states, than for big ones, even if the percentage is equal.

It's already in this mod. At Imperium 4, you get more expensive buildings, upkeep, and unit training costs.

Currently this value is still under testing. In the future, I will probably increase it more, plus open up more army capacity per imperium.

I understand that it was only during Augustus' reign that the legions were limited to 28.

Why not do this? DEI is huge, but it would really do the game much more interesting. It's one of the main problems, that closer to the mid of campaign both the player and the main AI factions have armies of 8+ legions mostly of the best available units. And these units, though expensive to hire, usually 50g/t more expensive than their cheap and far less effective analogs. But the maintaining of troops is a very expensive thing. Sometimes, when it concerns elite troops, maintaining them cost the same that their hiring. It would be great of you to do something like that.

Yeah. Especially when Rome started paying their soldiers intead of their soldiers spending for their own equipment.
Argus von Stein 15 Jul, 2015 @ 6:35pm
Well, I never understood why it's more difficult for a big country to have more man. To my mind it would be much better to make late reforms' warriors cost A LOT more. That's logical, cause with time battle equipment was gettig more and more expensive. That would be even more historically, cause with time 1 good equipped squad could change the battle, but it was more expensive than the half of the army. As for DEI I don't find the best troops to be really expensive for maintaining. It's ok to have armies of damn terminators (though far less than in vanilla), but it's ultimatly destructive for u're economic to have a large empire. Really. I guess that's why after Ceaser's conquest Rome fell in a day. )
