Well I am no specialist in the lore but I think with chainmail in this game we sort of have an issue. Take a look at the full armored greatswords mod because some of the models have chainmail at the back and it somehow looks odd mostly when all visual enhancements are enabled. So I think maybe some chainmail but not a lot, maybe also a bit of plate like empire swordsmen have - anything should be ok to change their current dull looks. That said anything that is done should keep in mind the fact that these are not armored knights but lightly armored soldiers.

@ Constantin : Yes it's the green knight WIP already working in game but I'm not completly happy with the texture skin. He will probably come next the battle pilgrims

I have a suggestion if you don't mind: I feel the men at arms with polearms are a bit too similar to spearmen at arms, not to mention the polearms are nothing impressive as weapons compared with the looks of for ex the empire halberds. Maybe in the future you could change a bit the armor and weapons of the men at arms to make them look a bit more like professional troops.
