If you increase the amount of Unity given by, say, 25%, then while the current situation is that you give some players 1.8 picks and other players 2.0 picks, after the change you'll give some players something like 2.1 or 2.2 picks and other players perhaps 2.4 picks. Pick costs increase non-linearly.
It's just that I'm not aware that any of the mods that I use have Civics that affect Unity. Or even ones that affect Unity costs or Unity penalties. Risa's mod is the least unlikely candiate, but that mod is explicitly defined as being a bugfix mod, to fix unintentional consequences, and so I'd be very surprised if it mucks around with Unity costs.
If you add civics that change unity costs, you're already making the choice to change how fast you get traditions, and that should carry over into your starting tradition picks.

It's not a big deal, however. Getting 2 Trad Picks right away, or getting one on gamestart and one 3 (or 4?) months later.
But I think it'd be useful to hear from others, to see if I and Silver are the only ones who have this problem.
Do you have any mods that increase the number of starting pops?
I am using Plentiful Traditions mod and a few others, although nothing that should alter tradition requirements. Any idea what to do about this?
Recently Traditions were changed to cost more Unity, I think it was in 2.0.1 or in 2.0.2beta, and so the amount of starting Unity given by your mod isn’t enough to but 2. It’s enough for about one and a half pick.
Increased the number of starting unity from 167 to 200 to fix an edge case issue where empires with both the Slaver Guilds and Syncretic Evolution civics wouldn't have enough unity for 2 traditions.
Thanks to Stad122 for finding this for me.
