Also, did you change ranged effectiveness at all? It seems like balance would favor them with this mod because a longer battle allows them to empty their quivers.

Exactly how much bigger are the unit models? The 2x size versions are too big and make maneubering n the map not as strategic.

Thanks, yes the banner mod will be on TWW2, and a new battle mod.

@Den

Do you plan on making more Mods for TWW2? You make some of my favorite mods ever.

CapitaineYolo, thanks again for your knockback idea. I found a way to reduce it, and it's very interesting to see ! I continue my test in this direction.

Thanks CaptitaineYolo, your ideas are interesting. I have run some test, the problem with all unit can knockback it's the knocback itself. In the engine, it cant be varied. And it's really strong, for the charge i wanted for a long time, to reduce it, and dont have the infantry flying, but we cant mod that. And if we have this effect in the battle (soldier flying after a hit), i think it's too much and not immersive.
For the Brutal Battle idea, i really like it. But the problem is all the unit have this "very compact stance", compact melee is impressive and fun to see, but far behind, having all the other soldiers waiting in a big blobbing, like a black friday, i dont like it.
And finally i like the Animated Combat idea, the only problem is the battle is shorter, and i want a longuer battle than vanilla for my battle mod.
I will continue my test to find the best setting for me. XD

Yeah I see what you mean. I guess if you made units with big weapons perform like the middle ground between regular infantry and monstrous infantry it could be done? in other words make them a little bigger than normal soldiers to offset the higher spacing and aoe attacks. Just a suggestion, which im not sure even helps with the blobbing. As far as I know, trolls bunch up just as much as regular soldiers. IF you wanted to raise the distance between models while fighting, which settings would you need to adjust?

Also, regarding balance. I think its important to reward strategic use of units. Due to the higher spacing of units when idle, they are way less vulnerable to missiles as engaged, blobbed up units. I really like this, because it rewards keeping reserves, which vanilla does not.

Regarding rush battle mod: Dont try to copy them, make your own thing instead. I recommend trying out impressive armies lite together with "all units have knockback attacks", which is the predecessor of "total impact battle overhaul". The problem with rush battle is, that it tries to make all units look super active by having them attack all the time. But because both sides just wail at each other with no reaction to being hit, it looks like a pillow fight. The knockback alleviates this issue. It gives each attack weight, and due to more units stumbling instead of attacking, naturally slows down battle time. It also rewards surrounds more, by allowing the surrounder to stun the surrounded more often. (ive never seen an outright stun-lock though, so no balance concerns)

Yes you're right, but the problem it's the game balacing. In Total War, compact melee are very vulnerable to distance weapon and artillery. And for open melee it's the opposite. I cant make the 2 handed weapons much more resistant to distance/artillery than spearmen for exemple.

For now i am doing a lot of test, for my Warhammer 2 battle mod. I hesitate between very compact melee like Brutal Battle mod, fun and furious to watch, or large melee more realist and strategic.

great mod ^^. The only thing I think could be improved is the blobbing that occurs during fights (which is the same as in vanilla). I can see why a unit of spearmen would want to keep close to each other. The higher density of men stops charges, and they can safely thrust without the risk of hitting a comrade. Any unit with swinging weapons however, would need to keep some distance in order not to cleave through each other. Thats why a unit of greatswords standing shoulder to shoulder in a fight looks wrong to me. What do you think about making such units keep more distance to each other during the fight and getting aoe attacks in turn?
Den  [author] 5 Aug, 2017 @ 5:27am
The problem is the new units will not have the size increase, and tiny soldier should look strange.

It's compatible with mod that add new units like Glory mod series? Thks

Thanks a lot!

T-Duke76 you should try my other battle mod "slow movement and battle", it's much more slow and i have updated it yesterday.
T-Duke76 2 Aug, 2017 @ 2:02pm
On the contrary I think the battle changes are great, although battles are still to fast imho...
Den  [author] 17 Jul, 2017 @ 3:30am
Yes i think the same Rhedd, if i buy Warhammer 2, my future mods will be like this. Spacing & size, battles changes, and graphic stuff, on 3 differents mods.

I would LOVE to have an "even lighter" version of this mod that contained all the cosmetic changes listed above under ARMIES, but none of the actual rules-changing bits under BATTLES.
Really, that would be fantastic!

Great mod! Love this, it is perfect for the Dwarves!
