Sequential Lighting
Hey everyone. This may be a silly question but I've recently felt inspired to create a track with a "pulsating" lighting efect.
But rather than simple interval pulsing between lights ( aka frequency ) I'd like to see if anyone knows how to get multiple lights in a row to flash sequentialy. IE. First light, second, third, fourth etc. Like a ripple effect.
Is there something I missed? Some trick I'm not aware of?
I don't see a time delay setting like with animation either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is definitely possible, but how easy/hard it is depends on what specific tools are available (which I don't remeber off the top of my head).

Just to clarify, are you currently trying to use the flickering light (specific light object), or are you trying to get a normal light to flicker using animations or something?

Edit: Just experimented with it. The Pulsating light property doesn't have an easy offset value, so unless you want them to turn on as the car passes them, which could break the pattern if the car changes speed at all, you'll be better off using animators to change the light effect.

Animators are easily offset in time, and you can easily set the animation duration to 0.01 to make the turning on/off almost instant which is quite useful. Making the lights go below the track when off also makes them sometimes have a visible flash when they pass through the track, which is a pretty good effect for a malfunctioning light.

I'd suggest turning off the physical light pole object, and animating a seperate light source for the flickering.

Thanks for the reply and info!

To clearify here's a screen shot of something I'm testing: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/850471956383397503/71B8F042810E957A45C60901E9B9EAFED03EE1A0/ (Note that pulse is set to zero as you know that just adjusts the frequencey of flashing)
The idea is to have the light bars flash in sequence so on, then off, move to the next one etc creating a pulsing effect down the hallway here Much like this gif: http://www.ijdmtoy.com/ebay/SKU332/Sequential-LED-Turn-Signal-Arrow-4.gif

while there is an animator setting for time delay wouldn't that effect the actual light bar or is it possible to just prevent animation and set a timing delay for lighting?

Sorry if you've already answered this and I'm not understanding it completely as I'm not too familiar with animating and lighting within this editor/engine.
The help is seriously appreciated.

Thought: I'm going to try and cheat it by animating the light to slide in and out of the wall in sequence with an instant duration, maybe creating the desired effect which should be fine as you won't really have to time stop and look and even on a menu level it'll never be in direct view due to the camera changes.

Essentailly, the idea with animators is to have objects for both the 'on' and 'off' states of the light, and you animate the 'on' one to be in position at the appropriate times. This can include both the light emitter and the glow tube.

The Pulse and Flickerlogic properties don't have the appropriate delays to do what you're after, so animators are pretty much the way to go. Making the lights move into the walls should be effective, however they may need to go fairly deep depending on the range of the light emitter.
