Mod suggestions

I've redownloaded this for the first time in a while, and am looking for a mod/utility that keeps the core experience pretty similar but with perhaps some tweaks and polish. Most importantly, one that changes the fact that battles are instantly lost if your character is knocked out. Any ideas?

This is not a problem in many mods. Any mod using death camera (Diplomacy, Perisno, Warsword Conquest, my Phantasy Calradia) should be able to continue battling after the main player is knocked out. This is scripted at module_mission_templates in the source. Not many mods offer the source but all of the above I have seen the source in the past and Phantasy Calradia has source shown since 2024.
