Mod to allow boots go be worn on robotic legs?

I have units with skeleton limbs, but I want them to wear boots, but the game doesn't allow this. Is there a mod I can get to unlock the footwear slot again?

No, it's not possible to mod it. Can save edit boots into the slot though. As long as you aren't planning on changing them often, since you have to save edit to change/remove them too.

Now why is that I wonder... The replacement legs should just follow the skeleton like a proper leg. Or what...?

They work and function fine on the leg (with a lot of clipping of course), but the disabling of the slot is hardcoded, so we just have to work around it. :/

I have no idea how to edit inventories. I tried reading the guide, but it makes absolutely no sense to me and references things I don't understand as if I do

If you're talking about my guide, it does assume you've read the getting started section in all the following sections.
