The Sisters of Mercy is my fave monor faction and I activley seek them out to integrate them. I don't know what you mean about the Justicere being weak, I don't find that. They compliment the ranged units of the mezari very well (the Mezari being the only faction I have played so far).
I bought the Tales DLC and ever since then I keep getting the same factions in my starting areas (factions that I don't particulalrly want). I keep getting loaded with crappy Jotus and Bos all the time now! I am almost tempted to disable the tales expansion since this seems to be the thing that is casuing it to happen?
I want to be able to chose the minor factions I have: or as an idea.....perhaps if you destroy a village you can then rebuild a new village with the faction you actually want?
I'm trying to start a new game and already I have started 20 new maps and abandoned every one.
I'll be the first to say the Bos unit sucks (and the Jotus are complete garbage)....but the food bonus is so good you should always take it unless you would only get say 1 village and right next door there are 3-4 vilalges in nearby areas for another faction. I made a more detailed post about each of the factions but sadly the board ate it.
In summary I don't think you know this game very well yet. The Sisters regeneration bonus is garbage because it only works in your territories. It also has much less effect than active healing such as that of the Eyeless ones (who can heal between combat rounds and easily prevent units from dying). As a support melee unit the Sister is not good in combat; have you noticed how easily they die? Please do yourself a favor and next time try playing just like you normally do but burn out the sisters villages (or pacify them.... whaterver). Try using the Silics or the Urcan instead. Both are incredibly strong infantry AND they have a decent bonus. Or try the Drogeshi (op cavalry unit with cavalry slayer+good empire bonus), or the Geldirus (you can ignore the unit but the bonus to damage is just insane if you get 4+ villages).
I know you probably like playing the way you normally do but I think if you try some other minor factions you will find that the Sisters really aren't that good when you compare them to other minors in terms of bonuses and units.
I think you could just remove some of the starting factions from the game (back up the files first). You can download a modding tutorial from amplitude's website.
I didn't know the Bos unit gives a food bonus, perhaps I dismissed them too quickly....
Yes its true I don't know the game very well yet, but already I find that I *enjoy* playing with particular combinations of units and I just *like* the justicere, Harmonite and Burdeki units. Maybe thats silly or something, but for me games arn't ever just about hard facts and figures, so maybe technically my favourite choices arn't *what is best* from a purely game mechanic point of view, but the most important aspect for me is that I have to be enjoying the game. Also: I havn't lost a single Justicere unit yet, so I must be doing something right with them :)
My tactics if you are interested: I use the Harmonites as *tanks* to just stand there up at the front line and just bodyblock/take the aggro (becasue they tend to have low initiative anyway) and then use the Justiceres and burdeki to rush in with surgical prescision and take out the infantry/cavalry respectivley, supported by ranged units at the back row. Highly enjoyable :D
I eventually got so fed up that I did disable the Tales DLC; a greater variety of minor factions started showing up again, so there seems to be something about that DLC that is limiting the start factions....seems a bit odd? TBH I'm a bit annoyed about that cause I literally just bought it, and have had to disable it straight away!
I'm going to look into downloading that modding tool you suggested.
You will hate this, but I'd actually like to make the Sisters of Mercy into a major playable faction. :D
I looked into some of the files you can play around with and didn't see a way to change much beyond that.
