Save data problem when uploading a Workshop game?
Recently, upon updating my game on the workshop, one of my subscribers reported their save data being overwritten by *my* save data - the save data used from inside the editor for the test play function. Honestly, I never dreamed that this sort of thing could even be possible, since the save data should be a local thing that isn't uploaded or downloaded to or by anyone, period, but apparently not.

Does anyone have any clue what might be going on, or how to prevent it in the future?

RPG Maker detects that the version on the local computer is not the same as the version on the workshop and therefore downloads the the version on the workshop overwriting the local version. As a simple solution delete all your save data before uploading to the workshop. This should fix the problem as I don't think the workshop will delete files in a workshop folder, only overwrite them.

Ah, I'll give that a try. Still, it seems strange that it would do that... my save data isn't a part of the "project", so why would it be uploaded to the Workshop in the first place? Maybe it's just an oversight in the system. At any rate, I'll try your method out and hope for the best. Better to get these things figured out before I start uploading more substantial updates. XD

Everything in the project folder is part of the project. This is because custom files, folders, etc. can be added (as I tend to do a lot). So your save files is considered part of the project. It's just a Ruby data file anyway.

Alright, then I'll be sure to go in and manually delete those before any future updates. Hopefully that prevents any further issues. Thank you for the replies. ^_^

No problem. I know it does seem a bit odd, but when you really get into how it works, it really makes a lot of sense.

I saw a way to remedy to theis while right clicking on the program on my steam list there is a place where you can close the sync with cloud or not allow for refresh.

I'm typing that now because I can just be on one window of steam at the time and I don't remember the name of the option yet.

BUT, it decidely stopped rearrange to a very earlier state my projects. In addition I keep externally and also on different names some versions of my project. So it is all I can do in matter of prevention so far.

And no way I want to pull the plug off the workshop... I like to keep tabs on my projects with others. For various reasons in some case, it is good to have folks to look over your work ^^

ADDENDUM:
In proprieties I checked off the steam cloud synchronisation. So I can send stuff it seems, I can manually delete it from my cloud file folder before opening the manage my projects and work in there. So far, so good! (Sorry devs... Not knowing what caused it I also opted out of betas and stuff like that. Not against you or anything.)
