It's almost as if I paid for the game and can play it however I want? If you want to change that then feel free to find me and force me to play it the way you want me to play it.
Because some people want the other features of hardcore mode but not those features. I love it as designed (in fact the map and lack of fast travel are my favorite features of hardcore mode) but people have different tastes. That's what modding is all about. That's why the devs gave us modding. (Complaining about mod requests in this discussion forum is the real WTF... :P)
I totally support you guys' desire for a mod to change how this works but just want to say I find it very immersifying to not have the map marker. Just a little while ago I got totally turned around and lost in the woods at night and it was so creepy and so much fun! You can't really get lost with the map marker. In general this features draws me into the world like no other as I have to look around and to try to figure out where I am, especially in the wilderness.
