Mineable Tyberium (Core Mod)

Extended Tech Tree Mod - Optional Mods

Description
Adds asteroids with Tyberium to the game.

Tyberium is a new mineable resource that can be harvested and then refined into almost any other raw resource using specialized tyberium refineries. Each resource requires its own refinery.

Refining tyberium may gain you almost any raw resource that you may need when you need it. However, because of how volatile tyberium is, it is recommended to keep any ship holding any significant amount of tyberium out of harms way or you may find yourself with your ship exploding. Also the risks of tyberium causing a chain reaction means trade stations will be reluctant to buy tyberium from you and selling prices of unrefined tyberium will be very low. It will be more profitable to refine the tyberium yourself.

There are currently 2 types of tyberium. The common (green) tyberium can be refined into iron, sulfur and (to a lesser extent) copper. Or you can refine green tyberium into smaller amounts of tritanium and carbon (and silver if using the Extended Tech Tree Mod).
The second type of tyberium is tyberium red, which can be refined into the rarest of raw materials (mostly tritanium and carbon and to a lesser extend also uranium and gold (and silver, duranium, platinum and letalium if using Extended Tech Tree Mod)). Tyberium red is harder to come by and can be harvested from the same asteroids as green tyberium, but only in smaller amounts.
Tyberium red is even more explosive than the more common green tyberium.

.

Tyberium is named after the Tyberius star system where it was first discovered. Tyberium is a strange type of crystal which seems to be able to absorb several other elements from its immediate vicinity. Because of the amount of energy and metals stored within these crystals, they are very volatile and can be highly toxic when inappropriately handled.

This mod spawns the tyberium asteroids. Each asteroid field has a roughly 40% chance of spawning at least 1 asteroid containing tyberium. Each asteroid belt will be guaranteed to spawn several asteroids containing tyberium.

The asteroids containing tyberium will be roughly the same size as the mineable megaroids from the mod Mineable Megaroids, so even a single one of these asteroids may give you quite a lot of tyberium for you to harvest and refine. What resource you refine it into is up to you. Perhaps you prefer to keep a stock of tyberium in case you find yourself in desparate need for any particular raw material somewhere down the line. No problem, you can just refine the resource you want whenever you want (just be sure your ship doesn't get blown up in the mean time as tyberium crystals are quite unstable, so handle with care).

The refineries are in a secondary mod and have to be downloaded separately. I've decided to split up the mod this way as this makes it easier for me to maintain whilst making it have more robust stability. This mod contains the asteroids and spawns them in, the second mod contains all off the refineries. There are 2 versions of the mod containing the refineries. One version contains all the necessary refineries for all the default raw resources (Sulfur, Iron, Copper, Carbon, Tritanium, Uranium and Gold) and another mod which also has these refineries, but has some extra refineries added for refining tyberium into Silver, Letalium or Duranium, which are resources from Extended Tech Tree Mod. If you use Extended Tech Tree Mod, I'd advice you to use the latter version. If you use only this mod without one of the mods that add the refinieries, you will just have the new pretty asteroids.

The Tyberium Refinery mods can be gotten here.
Please keep in mind that without the refineries, you won't be able to convert tyberium to other resources!
The standard version can be downloaded here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3021218404
The version for Extended Tech Tree Mod is here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3021217736

.

One add-on has been made specifically for this mod. It will increase the amount of asteroids containing tyberium and it can be safely enabled and disabled during your current playthrough. With it, you can tweak the amount of asteroids spawned containing tyberium to a certain degree.
You can get it here https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3024602334

A second addon is released as of 13 februari 2025 which can help store larger amounts of Tyberium more easily: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3426652812

.

Why I created this?
I wanted a mod with which I could convert a certain resource into the default resources without it being OP or a straight up cheat. Also I wanted something to make the kinda boring looking universe a little bit more colorful. So asteroids with bright green crystals it is!
Also I always liked playing a certain RTS game featuring a certain global defensive initiative (yes this mod is also a nod to the past) and had always wondered where the green stuff came from. Since this game features asteroids, I thought it would be fun to try and make something fitting to Cosmoteer. So here it is. Enjoy! And watch out for fires, they will blow up all your ship :P

Command your fleet. Conquer the universe!

Today I've released an addon for this mod that adds Compacted Long Term Storages that store Tyberium or Tyberium Red in various quantities.
You can get it here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3426652812

This addon does also require the mod Compacted Long Term Storages as well or the ETTM version of that mod.

@Tiberium Doge:Yes it is still working. Played it earlier today and converted some tyberium as I needed some extra uranium quick.

does this not work anymore?

Version 1.1.1 changes:

- Updated supported version numbers
- Edited the tyberium asteroid logo to be a more toxic green color instead of the snowwhite it was before (supported from Cosmoteer 0.28.0)

Version 1.1.0 supports Cosmoteer version 0.26.2.
Previous Cosmoteer versions will no longer work due to changes made to asteroid spawning.

Version 1.0.2 is a minor update:

- Makes max stack size and the amount of tyberium crew can carry relative to vanilla values, increasing mod compatibility with mods that increase max stack size.
- Doubles the amount of tyberium crew can carry at any one time (so refineries can get supplied faster).

Yes. And I kinda forgot about the MaxStackSize from vanilla. Will put it on my todo list for this mod as well :)

@wyp020610: Thank you for your feedback :)
I will consider it.

I probably made the crew carry only 1 tyberium crystal each because of how explosive these crystals are :P
But perhaps I can improve the crew work output at the expense of crew safety lol.

And yes I can add mathematics to the formula, ETTM makes extensive use of this for referencing vanilla values while not being identical to them.

Your Extended Tech Tree mod have resources copying MaxStackSize from corresponding vanilla resources. I think this is pretty neat, and could be applied to this mod.
If this gets implemented I hope MaxPerNugget also gets copied.
Here is a problem though. Tyberium has a MaxStackSize of 20, and a MaxPerNugget of 1. This doesn't correspond to any vanilla resources. They either have less stack size, or more per nugget.
I still suggest referencing Hyperium, because both Tyberium and Hyperium are raw resources. Maybe you can put a /2 on the formula.
