Description
Rally Round the King
Figurehead monarchs & Heads of Government

Overview
Rally Round the King (RRK) is a mod that aims to add a mechanism to preserve monarchs when countries convert from a monarchy to a republic. When a country changes directly from a monarchy to either a presidential, parliamentary, or council republic, an event fires, allowing you to pick whether to abolish the monarchy and send the king packing, or to keep the monarchy and keep them around as a figurehead.

To facilitate the distinction between other government types and "Crowned Republics", a new Head of Government mechanic is added. Countries which are Crowned Republics (i.e., republics who have kept their monarchies) or Constitutional Monarchies (as defined by vanilla logic) have a Head of Government, determined in a similar manner to parliamentary-elective or presidential-elective leaders in normal republics. Depending on the laws adopted by the country, you may have a parliamentary-elective Prime Minister or a presidential-elective Premier heading your government. Changes to the UI are made to indicate who the current Head of Government is in your country.

All of this is done without making changes to any other parts of the game - laws, characters, etc. are all untouched. RRK is designed to run on top of vanilla, adding some immersive flavor without sacrificing any of the core design of Victoria 3.

Usage Notes
Please allow for 1-2 days of game time for Prime Ministers to be assigned when starting new games. Due to technical limitations, PMs are assigned with 1 day of delay instead of immediately.

Old saves are compatible, with issues. Countries who are Constitutional Monarchies will not have Prime Ministers selected if this mod is added in the middle of a save, but this is automatically fixed the next time those countries reform their governments. To avoid this, starting a new game is highly recommended.

If you would prefer they be called "Constitutional Monarchies" instead of "Crowned Republics", you can change this via a game rule.

Mod Compatibility
For users of Visual Leaders, please use this compatibility patch. Follow the mod ordering instructions on the page for proper use.

Users of the Better Politics Mod must use this compatibility patch.
Do not use with BPM - BPM has its own head of state / head of government split mechanics, so it is incompatible with RRK. A compatch with BPM Lite may be created in the future.

RRK also comes with built-in compatibility for Universal Names for any UI text it changes that includes character names. No patch mods are required.

Users have reported that RRK is mostly compatible with VTM, where there may be a small conflict with China's Fragile Unity journal.

=====

The following actions will cause conflicts with RRK:
• Modifying journal entries and decisions (e.g., Stamp out Monarchism, Honorable Restoration, State Shinto, etc.) that depend on countries being or not being a Monarchy
• Modifying the politics / government screens

Any mod that does any of the above may require a compatibility patch for both to function correctly.

As RRK creates its own definitions for everything else, all other mods should work.

Loading Order
The positioning of RRK with respect to other mods should not matter, except in the case of certain compatibility patches.
Follow any instructions provided by compatibility patch mods.

If you are having issues with other, unrelated mods, place RRK lower (towards the bottom) in your playset.

DLC Requirements
This mod does not rely on any DLC features, so you should not need any DLCs.

I'd have to look into it but I recall seeing that the historical Persian monarchs having unique outfits, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I'll make a note to investigate it.

yes Iran/Persia specifically,
i'm not educated enough to make a guess on this but what i've noticed about this country specifically is that their royal attire changes twice, once when Naser Al-Din Shah takes charge, and then reverts back once his heir takes charge.

Is this happening with a specific country?

Theocracies are excluded, so no to that

Fascist is fine - both an authoritarian presidential republic with a fascist PM or an authoritarian corporate state should work fine

this is a very cool mod but does it also support fascist and theocratic government types especially in the case of Japan?

Only the monarch, unfortunately. Modifiers from character traits are entirely handled by the game engine & isn't scriptable behavior beyond defining the modifiers in the traits. Since the monarch is still technically the ruler and the PM is, as far as the game is concerned, just a random politician, you can only have the benefits from the monarch's traits and never the PM's.
