While both use the same basic material of crystalite.
Their divergence is not merely in the appearance of their technology.

Basis of Weaponry

EC has an array of specialized weaponry, that are fragile but potent with longer ranges.
PC has an array of dedicated weaponry, well armored, and effective at multi-tasking.

A grand example of this, is EC's interception & anti-fighter weapons compared to PC's own systems.

EC's for interception is a laser system nearly incapable of damaging fighters but has wicked accuracy.
For anti-fighter, they have 3 entire systems each with their own range, destructive power, and cost.
Together they form 3 fields, each reinforcing the previous, the closer you get.
It becomes increasing excessive in cost, damage & heat to intercept missiles with the Anti-fighter.

PC's interception system uses kinetic projectiles fired rapidly to disable missiles.
These same projectiles can actually be used to deal damage to fightercraft, and with impulse have some effect against them.
Their Anti-Fighter system is essentially, more expensive but more armored turrets with more destructive projectiles that have a more severe impulse.
Both are effective in their role, price wise for construction & ammunition, and both can do the other's task to an acceptable level.

Weight & Ammunition
EC Technology weighs less, and often less than Stock Technology.
While still providing better durability than Stock Technology.
PC Technology while weighing a grand deal more than both, is much more durable.
Ammunition wise, PC is incredibly hard to compete with for ease of production of Ammunitions.

Engines

EC Engine technology while expensive, is capable in both atmosphere & interstellar.
It has enhanced decelleration, but has limited force.

PC Engine technology, has atmospheric & intersellar types for both small & large class ships.
While having more force, it has reduced effectiveness while decellerating.

Power

EC Power & Energy Storage, allows large output & production with cheaper fuels.
However only allows a slow intake for recharging.
Specialized Batteries, amplify this trait allowing massive power surges.

PC Power & Energy Storage, provides expensive but potent energy production.
The weight to power ratio, for storage of this special fuel is quite profitable.
Specialized Batteries come in both Rapid-Recharge, and High-Output variants.

Small-ships

EC Smallship technologies include micro-scale slipgate (Jump drive) systems, to miniture internal repair systems.
While lacking the range of their Large ships, EC Fighters make up for it in speed & dedicated firepower.

PC Smallship technology enable micro-scale production of ammunitions, to incredibly small long-range cannons.
Small but dense armor plating, mixed the longer ranged smaller weapons allow fighters to easily become tanks.
