Understanding Rule Hints
When editing the rules in the inventory of a structure or dino, a 'hint' is displayed in the top center of the window to provide guidance as to how the structure will behave in general. There are limitations that may cause it to not behave as expected. However, the hint is good at understanding the general behavior.

There are nine possible hint values:

  1. Accept All (Overflow)
  2. Accept All except Red (Partial Overflow)
  3. Accept All, Reject Red (Partial Overflow)
  4. Accept Green
  5. Accept Green, Else Ignore
  6. Accept Green, Reject Red, Else Ignore
  7. Accept Green, Else Reject
  8. Reject All (Drop Box)
  9. Idle (Ignore All)

In the following explanations, the following phrases will be used:

Explicit Accept Rule is a rule in the middle for either a resource or folder with Green letters.
Explicit Reject Rule is a rule in the middle for either a resource or folder with Red letters.

Accept All (Overflow)

This is a passive configuration where the inventory will accept any known item, provided there is capacity and the inventory does not prohibit that class of object.

Accept All except Red (Partial Overflow)

This is a passive configuration where the inventory will accept any known item other than those that have an explicit reject rule defined and the inventory does not prohibit that class of item and there is capacity to accept it.

Accept All, Reject Red (Partial Overflow)

This is an active version of the above but it also will actively attempt to move the items with explicit reject rules out of the inventory if there is an available target with capacity.

Accept Green

This is a passive configuration where the structure will accept any of the items that match the accept rules and that there is capacity and the inventory does not prohibit that class of item.

Accept Green, Else Ignore

This configuration is similar to the previous configuration.

Accept Green, Reject Red, Else Ignore

This is an active configuration where items with reject rules are pushed out to target inventories that can accept them while only accepting items with explicit accept rules. Any other items are ignored.

Accept Green, Else Reject

This is an active configuration where the items with explicit accept rules are accepted while all other known items are pushed out if there is an available target.

Reject All (Drop Box)

This is an active configuration where all known items will be pushed out if there is an available target that can accept them.

Idle (Ignore All)

This is a configuration where the rules are disabled. In general, to disable a structure, switch it to Disabled instead of this to preserve the rules.

How Inventory Restrictions Work

In ARK, many structures or creatures limit the objects that can be placed in their inventories. Some are limited to specific items, such as a forge, while others the type of item, such as a bookshelf.

The K+ ICS Manager will verify that the target of any push request allows that class of object in its inventory before moving it. This overrides any rules you may define on the structure.

For example, creating a rule on a forge to accept or even require (accept rule with a minimum > 0) Cooked Meat will not work because Cooked Meat is not one of the classes that the forge explicitly permits in its inventory.
