Basically you need a bearing to be spinning. Connect that bearing to an alternator using the connect tool, same as an engine. How that bearing spins is your choice- a water wheel, a fifth wheel on your car rolling on the ground, a motor, or anything else. There will be a distinct sound and some sparks from the alternator when it's working, so you'll know.
If you are making a motor-generator, have it as bearing-block-bearing and connect one bearing to the alternator and another to the motor so that ultimately that block spins.
