Deep And Deeper
Bug: Cave-in applying to surface map on all saves.

Rimworld Version: 1.6.4528 64-bit GOG
Mod Version: Updated on 7/25/2025
(When updating mods, I manually remove the folder and re-download it from Steam.)
Other probably relevant data: Mod configuration has not been changed from default, and I play the game in Spanish.

First of all, I want to say thank you for making the mod. I’ve been using it since I started playing a few months ago in version 1.5.

I’ve encountered a critical bug that affects save files with a corresponding cave map.
Here’s what happened:

I had a cave map in critical stability status filled with toxic pollution. I took a pawn that was inside it to the surface and proceeded to draft them in order to destroy the cave entrance. I then switched my camera to the cave map, and as it was collapsing and causing a cave-in, the moment the map deleted itself, suddenly the surface map was instantly affected by pollution, earthquakes, and collapses were applied across the entire surface, as if the cave’s internal conditions had spread outward, effectively destroying the surface map.

Below is a list of the different behaviors I encountered while trying to debug:

Loading any save file that contains the cave map before the cave-in will have its entrance and exit removed. If there are any pawns inside the cave map, they’ll be unable to exit unless using the “reform caravan from map” command. In such save files, as soon as the cave-in happens, the same problem occurs (pollution spread all over the surface map and multiple collapses).
Loading any save file before the cave entrance/map is created seems to work properly. I had created other caves previously in this same save, and they worked as intended.
No errors are logged in the console when the problem occurs—not even in Dev Mode.

I’ve checked the HugsLib log myself, and to be honest, I didn’t find any relevant data that could help pinpoint the issue. I understand that identifying the cause is difficult, and there’s always a possibility it’s due to incompatibilities with other mods. Regardless, I wanted to report the bug in hopes it helps. If you need any extra information, i’m more than willing to help. :happy_cats:

Update: I have now found a way to avoid the problem.

I encountered a save file that still had the cave entrance and exit intact (unlike others where they disappeared).
If, in such a save, I use the "clear rect" command from Dev Mode to completely empty the cave (and also remove the toxic waste from it), then after attacking the cave to make it collapse, the problem does not occur.

I haven’t played enough to know if the surface getting polluted after a cave-in with toxic waste is normal behavior, but if that’s the intended mechanic, then maybe the collapses extending to the surface could be related to it.

That surface is getting polluted is intended behavior.
Do you mean landslides occur on surface? Tbh I don't even know how that's possible (A responsible component does not exists for surface).

I've tried to reproduce it as you described, but none of the issues happened to me.
Can you reproduce it with only this mod installed?

I was going to try to replicate the landslides on the surface since last time, but I haven’t been able to.
Thanks for the quick response! It was probably just related to another mod, then. It’s good to know that the pollution was intended, that’s actually a cool way to balance the mod.
From what I’ve described, I think the only bug actually related to this mod is the entrance and exit disappearing.

I have no guess why exit might despawn (I couldn't reproduce it in many tests).
If you find a mod, that cause those issues, I'll try to patch on my side.
