hw1 & hw2 Battlecruiser Damage changes
This patch/mod reduced the HW1 & HW2 HC/BC over all damage by roughly half.

the weapons damage in vanilla is as such:
Hgn BC: = 302,400 DPM / 5,040 DPS
Vgr BC: = 290,000 DPM / 4,833 DPS
HW1 HC's: = 291,218 DMP / 4854 DPS


Post community patch weapon damage:
Hgn BC: = 132,000 DPM / 2200 DPS
Vgr BC: = 132.000 DPM / 2200 DPS
HW1 HC's: = 132,000 DPM / 2200 DPS

NOTE: Neither of these DPS numbers count the pulsar or anti fighter weapons only the main and 2ndairy batteries, the HW2 DPS values will be Slightly higher ingame as a result.

Please also keep in mind, that the HW2 battlecruisers can still be upgraded to literally have 2x the armor that their HW1 counter-parts do. That hasn't and will not change.
Hw1 cruisers have been given some more HP but is still less than what a level 1 armored HW2 BC has.

I would like the whole communtys opions on the damage changes.

My personal feeling and the views of alittle over half of the community i hang out with on team-speak, is that homeworld 2 battlecruisers were to powerful. They did silly amounts of damage, and were basically considered "i win" units, thus making frigates, destroyers and the majority of other ships in the game useless, and not worth investing in or teching into.
Often times people totally ignore and skip over these units with out a 2nd thought, while YES its true the smaller ships can be useful in some games, the moment people start fielding BCs, the game is more or less sealed. In homeworld 1 and cata you saw a healthy mix of units, and while the cruisers were scary, they could be dealt with, and it wasn't game over. Particularly when your side didnt have a Cruiser of its own.

The other side of this coin, is the group of people who feel it was fine as is, and dont like the damage reduction.

This is a pretty touchy subject in teamspeak at the moment, so what i want to know is, how do YOU all feel about this?

Edit: people have asked on the froums that i change and lower the BC further, they wanted it to scale like it did in hw1. so thats what i have done.

according to hw1, the damage scales as such:
1 Destroyer's firepower = 2.625 ion frigs
1 Hcruiser/Bcruiser firepower = 2 destroyers or 5.25 ion frigs

that is how it currently works in the mod and how it worked in hw1 in terms of DPS scaling..
this has also fixed the issues of destroyers and frigates being rendered useless when someone pulls a BC or HC out. WITH OUT BUFFING frigs. cuz honestly i dont feel they needed it. the BC was always the problem.

keep in mind that BC are still EXTREMELY dangerious, they have the most firepower of any unit in the game and have anywhere from 2.83x the HP of a destroyer to 4.5x the HP. 15-24x the HP of an ion frig at level 0 and 9.375-15 for L2 armored ion frigs. Heavy missile frigs are the same. just dont send it in unsupported and expect it to win solo vs 2 players frigate fleets anymore..

about half of those numbers for HCs sense they have Half the HP as a BC.

I think a 1k nerf would have been more appropriate. Rather than nerfing this unit in a linear way like this, I think it'd be better to increase the drawbacks of BCs.
Make subsystem HP lower, for example.
Make capture time against marine frigates lower.
Decrease engine speed by 10 across the board.

Any of those changes make battlecruisers extremely vulnerable to an opponent who doesn't just say 'oh a bc, let me just place 10 ion frigs in front of it - it says anti-capital in the description!'.
Such a nerf to BCs will just make them slow expensive DDs - I'd rather have 2 or 3 DDs than a BC considering these numbers.

You can't just nerf damage and HP. These changes bring uniformity rather than balance.

marine frigs capture time is HP based. no way to increase it vs just BCs with out making it insta cap frigs or other units.. its also dependant on how many marine frigs are latched on to it, as more will make it cap faster. making hardpoint HP less is interesting though. i like that idea.

people on the forums didnt like my 1st nerf when they did 3k dmg instead of 6k and wanted it to be even lower, and scale like HW1, so thats what i did..

also a BC with level 0 armor will beat 10 ion frigs with level 2 armor btw, even with the nerf they got in the current patch. HP wasnt changed, and thats the point, 3 DD should be equal to 1 BC, though 1 BC will still beat 3 DDs if the BC has L2 armor.. just saying.
