Purchased the item, I have yet to receive it. I'd take a hard pass on this, unless you want to literally throw away money.

I am going to preface this review by saying that this is not really an ROTK game. Sure, it had some elements reminiscent of the ROTK games. However, while I was playing it, it felt a lot more attune to the Dynasty Warriors: Empire style of game, but with more depth added. That isn't inherently wrong, but if you are looking for a ROTK game like those of the past, this isn't really it.

This game as a whole isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but the AI can be easily exploited, in fact I was presently surprised. If you don't set challenges for yourself, or just play the best of your ability with no room for error, I can see this game getting old quick.

For me, I do like the RP elements a lot. For instance there was this officer; Sun Ce. This guy was my biggest rival. At one point I might have "accidentally" killed one of his allies in a duel, which made him devote himself to seeing me die. I wiped his kingdom off the map, but he escaped from imprisonment. After that, he showed up in every army I fought against. Like this man pledged allegiance to every ruler in the country just to kill me.

After awhile I decided not to execute him because it was entertaining to me, to keep fighting him (although it was a long rivalry). Sometimes I'd best his army, sometimes it was he who would best mine. But one thing never changed; it was always myself versus him in the end. We would engage in our duels, I would lose some bouts and I would win a lot of those too. At one point he single-handedly wiped my army from existence, so I returned the favour when I could.

At the final battle, I barely (and I do mean barely) escaped with my life and was able to slay him.

Overall, the game has its flaws and there are many, but they aren't significant enough of a gripe to steer me away.

Early Access Review
Okay so a few people complaining in the reviews are stating some things that are simply untrue. The first fight is NOT a forced loss and if you are smart with task delegation, players getting sick won't be an issue in the long-run.

The game isn't without its flaws though, but it does provide a lot more content for it's genre (management), more so than other tycoons.

Pros:

+Graphics are good
+"Play Match" works well

Cons:

-Can be repetitive after awhile
-Some bugs

I recommend always playing the match, rather than simulating it. It makes the outcome more varies based on quick changes to the slider and strategy.

In the future it would be interesting to see other popular e-sport games make their debut in other game modes as well.

The sword combat feels dull and boring. It took a lot of the interest out of the game for me. I understand that this is a
story-centric game, but when there is this much combat, I can't ignore that it lacks depth.

The game has exceptional mods and a worthwhile game overall, with the amount of replay value it has. The DLC is pricey, so I recommend waiting for a bulk sale, which is what I did.

On the regular difficulty, MMO is pretty much end-game. There is no challenge, nor difficulty curve after that. You could make a mediocre MMO, and it will completely overshadow your other accomplishments by a long-shot. Bonus points if you make an actual highly praised MMO as well. Honestly, I settled to just not make any MMOs because it gets fairly easy.

On higher difficulties, there is no point to develop a game. Contract work is where you will go, and you will find yourself not wanting to make a game. You will earn a lot more money this way, especially since it's near impossible to keep up with the technology. It can be done, but your game will have to be perfect if you want to net a profit (because your technology will be worthless again while you are developing the game, and bad tech = bad reviews). Typically, when I produce a game, I get the same amount of money as I spent on it. However, the upkeep of the office and wages of staff make it less viable. The only real purpose to develop games is to get fans. Of course, once you hit the MMO stage and get caught up with technology, then it's also a wrap.

Self-producing games isn't worth the effort either. You take a bit hit in order to set things up, and by the time things are ready to ship, you could have produced more games in that time. It's also a little bit of a complicated process, so I could see that deterring players from bothering with it, to begin with.

This game can be good, but unfortunately other competitors do not keep up, and there aren't enough obstacles on your way to success. Honestly, if you are willing to put some restrictions in place, or you are simply looking for a time-waster, then this could be your game.

I will say that it is fun, until you learn that formula. After which, everything becomes formulaic. This game is much better than the likes of Game Dev Tycoon, so if you really enjoyed Game Dev Tycoon, but wanted a game with the similarities, but much more complexity, then this is probably that game.

Enemies constantly spawn on you in boss fights. Less skill-challenge via boss, more trying DESPERATELY to barely fend off waves of minions

So for anyone wondering WHY you cannot access your account, I've finally figured it out. There is no written information on this in the Mog Station or anywhere else online. As it turns out, if you've purchased any DLC, purchased a subscription, or used the old free trial you cannot access your account. The "error" they provide is completely irrelevant to the actual issue, especially because like some of you, I assumed I could use this new free trial to level 70. NOPE! You can't. Which I do not understand. I could make a new account and just play that way if I wanted... buy why? What is the point of this restriction? I would like to play on the account I was using. Where I left off on my trial left me unsure if I wanted to play this game further. Well, years later I get a chance to do just that, but I'd need to make a new account or fork out some money in order to do so. Ridiculous.
