Yep, this game absolutely stomps your balls in and is completely unapologetic and ruthless about it. Suffer, suffer, suffer. Hang on, winding up an attack. Dodge it? Punished. Did you want to breathe? Twenty arm stunlock poison vomit.

Open world FromSoft, but it's sort of linearish. I definitely prefer this game over Dark Souls 3. It's a beautiful game, combat's often pretty solid. Just your usual FromSoft BS with a couple of curveballs added in. Some of the enemies in this game are absolutely atrocious to combat against though.

Excellent all around really, especially the part where it repeatedly kicks you in the balls. It also helped me understand the distaste people have for comparing this series and MH. Very different games with minor similarities.

Takes twenty years to reach log in screen, controls are absolutely abysmal and clunky, enemies spawn two feet away from you off of your screen in order to pressure you, random red circles indicating explosions from tanks and helicopters show up even when they aren't nearby, cars over and under steer. This is literally just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Saints Row and Batman game. Hit detection is abysmal and accuracy is a myth, the amount of times I had to offset my aim in order to hit my mark is impressive. You also can't even properly tell where you're getting hit from, the indicators are of no help since they removed the minimap from the previous game. All in all? Play something else. Seriously.

Incredible game, plagued by EA. Worth every penny, only to have access revoked. I cannot and should not have to be assed to look up solutions in order to play a videogame, I should not need another launcher when steam itself is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher. This game absolutely deserves to be played. and yet I cannot recommend it because of EA. If it doesn't work, it doesn't get recommended.

edit: just remember EA is really annoying.

edit2: yeah i definitely remember why this is my favorite game ever. It's a solid 11/10 experience for me. The gameplay, the graphics, the sound design, the music, the interactivity, the replayability and the intensity are of such high quality that I absolutely recommend people try this game with their closest friends. The story is honestly probably the weakest part of the videogame, but it doesn't matter. Doom proved story doesn't matter, It Takes Two does the same.

Seriously, you need to grab a friend, this game, sit down and enjoy the ride. I want more from Hazelight.

Monster Hunter World is a really fun game in which you track and hunt down various large monsters and do combat with them.

I have to say right out of the gate I hate how this game handles it's cooperative multiplayer. In order for your group of friends to begin playing together in this title is to first SEPARATELY and INDIVIDUALLY have all four hunters launch their own version of the SAME QUEST, run to the area where the monster is located in, watch it's introductory cutscene which SEAMLESSLY transitions you into combat with the monster, ABANDON THE QUEST and then REPOST the quest so that all four hunters can finally band together and take down the monster. I HATE this about World and it's the ONE THING that detracts perfection from this game's score.

It is my first monster hunter title and I initially loathed this game. Everything about this game made my soul scream out in rage. Why are the weapon attacks so slow? Why is it so clunky? Why doesn't it seem like the monsters react to my attacks? WTF WITH THIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NERGIGANTE DIVEBOMB??

I wanted to rip my hair out and go bald. Then I really started teaching myself about the combat. I delved into online message boards and youtube videos in order to see what I was doing wrong (which was a lot) and finally discovered the magic of MH combat. Everything becomes so readable once you understand it.

Then there's the ecology. Man I love the ecology of this series. There's so many little creatures just living their life in this game. some of which you can capture, some of which you can ride on and some of which will try to fight you.

Iceborne rolled in and introduced the Clutch Claw. What a divisive little tool. It's function is to allow you to latch onto a monster part and then use a weapon attack (or two if you use light weapons) in order to tenderize that part and make it more susceptible to damage, as well as turn it into a weakpoint. In order to allow hunters to do this, they added the "clagger" mechanic to monsters. If you deal enough damage, the monster will stagger and drool for an extended period of time allowing you to get tenderization hits in. The monster will also briefly extend this window when you first latch onto it during this time. Another primary feature of the Clutch Claw is to wallbang a monster. By attaching yourself to the head and having ammo in your slinger, you can claw attack a monster to re-direct its facing direction before sending it off into a wall for big damage and a guaranteed knockdown.

Honestly I dislike the Clutch Claw, it's implementation is clunky and unfun. So many times I've aimed my claw at the head of a monster and somehow ended up on either an arm or wing. I'm glad Wilds will be doing away with it and that tenderization will be a natural part of combat.

We also got the Guiding Lands in Iceborne, or as we all like to call it, the GRINDING Lands. The first time leveling up the grinding lands isn't really that bad, it's mildly exciting. Every locale in the game is connected and linked up in one area, except that they each only have two areas. Two Ancient Forest, two Wildspire, two Coral, two Vale, two Recess and two Hoarfrost areas. You could consider all of the inbetween areas also ancient forest areas, but they don't contain bonepiles and ore deposits. You have to run around, mine, gather and fight in order to level up areas in order to challenge more powerful monsters. You need these monsters parts in order to augment weapons. Every monster only drops one part and usually a bone of some kind, every wallbang drops a shiny, every knockdown drops a shiny. The shinies are equivalent to carving. You never need to defeat a monster, only collect its shinies. Unfortunately you can't level up every zone to maximum without doing an improbable amount of hunts, this can make the Guiding Lands overstay its welcome by a large margin. You never quite know what parts you'll need or from where until you get them.

The Guiding Lands were an interesting idea, I loved the idea of all locales being linked together as well as being able to fight all monsters in one place. But since they only each have two areas and the grind stinks, I'd prefer never to see this again.

Iceborne also introduced the Raider Ride, which was them exploring the idea of adding mounts to the game. The Raider Ride is a function I never use, but it is plenty useful. I don't use it because I can't control it, the Palamute from Rise is far superior in this regard.

Tempered Monsters are something I hope doesn't return to this series, just regular monsters with a shiny coat of paint, flash resistance and more damage doesn't make for a very exhilarating experience. Arch-Tempered falls into the same category, but at least these add some kind of special attack instead of being ULTRA STRONG FOR NO REASON. Which they are.

Alatreon rolled in and oh man, what a freak of nature. Not only did this thing have access to every element in the game, not only did it have very little chill, NOT ONLY DID IT DO A BOATLOAD OF DAMAGE, but this thing demanded you run a strong elemental build or suffer the consequences. Escaton Judgment. If you weren't able to topple and break this bad boy's horns, you were erased from the arena with no remorse. If you did topple and break its horns, you had a chance to keep fighting.

Then Fatalis dropped. I still cannot solo this thing. On top of it being so reactionary to where you are and all of the damage it does, you only get 30 minutes to defeat it. Talk about brutal. But when you set off that dragonator, ohhh BOY does that feel good.

All in all, I ended up liking this game. A lot. I'm hoping it'll be much of the same when Wilds comes out. I'd love to dump another 2500 hours into MH. I also want them to fix their server problems because I'm sick of randomly disconnecting from lobbies and hunts mid-fight.

So, overall 3/5.

"A game for everyone is a game for no one." - AHGS

Dove into an automaton invasion, got blown to pieces.
Dove into bug hives, got ripped to shreds
Dove into an airstrike, all for liberty.

Crater'd a hulk
Bombed a titan.
Got owned in Malevelon.

Super Earth needs you.

Take notes, triple A companies. Or don't, I'm not your mom.

EDIT the REVIEW CHANGE: Sony back pedaled on the PSN accounts, but discussion is still ongoing about it because Sony is desperate to get something out of us. As far as Arrowhead is concerned, they fired some dumb people, but I still get to be salty about their awful balance team. They have no idea what constitutes a fun experience on difficulties 7-9 and constantly nerf useful items when players gravitate toward them. It's a garbage way of attempting to get people to use multiple weapons and stratagems. Ultimately at the end of the day, a META will develop. Developers can't defeat it, but Arrowhead doesn't understand that yet. Will set a positive review once they stop making bad balance decisions and start making good ones.

EDIT: They actually figured out what fun is. Now if only they'd revert the change they made where the rest of the world can't play. Fix that and the thumb goes up. Otherwise I can't possibly recommend it to people right now, they might not be able to play.

EDIT2: This game desperately needs QA testers. Every update they've been releasing lately has been broken one way or another. There is absolutely no excuse for it. If part of your car stopped working, would you be OK with that? No, so stop accepting it with videogames. Still cannot recommend the game as it may not function as intended right now. You're so close, yet so far to a thumbs up.

SUPERSTORE EDIT: They're going full blown MTX with the collab content. They put a gun in there when there never was a gun in the superstore before. The armor they put in is also unbelievably pay to win, there isn't an alternative. It's only part one, they're going to do more of this. ♥♥♥♥ that. I do not support pay to win practices.

Now it's not available anymore and they have no idea what to do with it. Almost like it should've just gone in a Warbond. Doesn't matter, they have no QA Testers available to ensure their game even works. I didn't pay money to playtest your videogame, Arrowhead. I paid money to play a functioning fully-released title. If you can't take that money and hire some QA testers to make sure your ♥♥♥♥ works, then go ♥♥♥♥ yourself.

You have zero respect for your playerbase and it shows, no matter how much you try to pull back on your poorly made decisions. It's a shame because there's a good game hiding in here, you're just burying it in ♥♥♥♥.

Early Access Review
It's like ARK, BOTW and PLA had a child, producing Palworld. It has all of the jank of ARK. the charm of Pokemon and exploration of BOTW mixed together. Despite this, it actually manages to be better than two out of three of those titles. It has no shot beating BOTW, but it definitely feels better than ARK and looks infinitely better than Pokemon.

The developers are very clearly inspired by all three of these titles, they'd be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lying if they claimed otherwise. Wouldn't recommend this game if you happen to be a minimum spec PC. Ran this on a 1050 ti and Ryzen 5 2600. For the MOST part on Low, it ran at around 30, but some areas hit unreasonably hard for no particular reason, dipping into 10 FPS, like there's leftover trash hidden underneath the world, because it gets worse when I look down.

For an early access title, it's pretty lucky. If the Pokemon Company and Gamefreak actually allowed themselves to put out good games, this wouldn't do nearly as good as its doing, especially since Multiplayer is broke as all hell. Singleplayer is fine though.

Edit: After "100%ing" this game, all I have to really say is its more entertaining than pokemon will likely ever hope to be. The endgame grind (at normal settings) is pretty doodoo butter though. Luckily you can just change the settings of the game to account for that. Interested to see what's after 0.1.4.0 or if they just drop it and run.

Edit2: Tried online to see how bad the fuss is, you're definitely only going to be playing this by yourself or with friends privately since hackers delete you. No need to waste your time in official servers.

Edit3: Tried a few community dedicated servers, they're better than official but this game's multiplayer is a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Attacks you dodge will reset your position and count as a hit, cliffs you climb will reset your position because of rubberbanding, you'll consistently get stuck in the ready-to-throw sphere animation mid-combat so you'll waste spheres. It's not fun. Avoid multiplayer.

Edit4: Crashworld. The Terraria update made this game unstable as all hell, I've deleted all of my mods, all of my shaders, uninstalled and reinstalled the game cleanly and still continue to crash. Not only does it crash terribly now, but the game runs poorly too, especially inside of bases with walls. Pocketpair dropped the ball, so I can't recommend it anymore.

I'm not a fan of titles like this one but since it had gotten the Triple A industry to panic, I bought this. Triple A games should be held to this standard of quality. If a Triple A game doesn't want to provide the same level of quality, it has no right to call itself Triple A anymore. THIS is a Triple A game.

Unfortunately my machine doesn't do the game justice, so I can't even experience it casually. But the playthroughs I've seen have been more than enough to justify my opinion on this game. This is Triple A quality. Real Triple A games wish they were this good, which is why they went out of their way to try and temper your expectations. Do not let them tell you to temper your expectations, RAISE THEM HIGHER.

I use this game as my number one reason for why I don't buy into early access titles anymore. It was a promising first person shooter, doom-inspired. Has great gunplay, decent enemies, copious amounts of blood and gore and a sweet built-in level editor. That was the selling point for me.

Played it during early access and rather enjoyed the campaign as it was, however an issue loomed over me at all times. Death is meaningless. If you die, you simply respawn and keep progressing the level as if nothing happened. No enemies or pickups respawn, just you. I chocked this up to early access jank that'd be solved by final release. Nope.

Not only did they not change the respawning checkpoint gimmick, they added a bunch of wacky ass upgrades, like double jumping and dashing that completely breaks the flow of all campaign levels. My friend and I who were going through co-op literally and ACCIDENTALLY found the secret exit to a level within 2 minutes of starting it. BECAUSE we could sequence break.

The level designers put no thought or care into their levels regarding these upgrades, because said upgrades were an after-thought and honestly unnecessary. I'm not playing Doom Eternal, I'm playing Prodeus. But I guess not anymore, no idea what this became. Just another nameless, forgettable shooter that had the potential to be something more.

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, the online community for this game is pretty incredible and the community map makers do some incredible work. The game might be worth checking out for that reason alone, but nothing else. You don't want this for the campaign, it's bad.

It's Borderlands 3 except with medieval themed guns and somehow less variety of them. The story is an improvement given what we had in 3, but I don't know who these two new jackasses are nor do I frankly care at this point. They're alright characters. Honestly this game kind of runs just as bad as Borderlands 3 does for me and that's a shame, I was hoping it wouldn't microstutter so badly.

The character creator is an interesting idea and one that I think will only exist in this game. I also like that you can multi-class in this game, combining all sorts of fancy traits and spells to decimate your enemies with. Unfortunately I didn't play through the whole game though because it was pretty clear to me that this wasn't going to be as fun as Borderlands 3.

For me the biggest factor working against it is its own theme of being D&D and putting you onto a D&D table. I'm not a D&D fan, I don't like roleplaying and then playing math wizards to see how combat plays out. That's not entertaining. This doesn't really do that, but what it does do is rip you out of the game world multiple times to constantly remind you that you're playing D&D with Tiny Tina. The random encounters aren't even that fun, just tedious and time-consuming if you didn't punch them out of existence.

The villain of the game is at least amusing, much more tolerable than listening to two echocast ♥♥♥♥♥ pretending to be gods (even if it was their heritage). Sadly I didn't get to see the endgame because I stopped playing, so I have no idea if the climax of the game is even good or not. The game just felt too tedious.

Luckily it was a gift from a friend so it's a little hard to be disappointed, but I am.

The original half-life, remastered and rebalanced, for better or for worse. I've followed the Black Mesa project for a long time and played early versions of it before they ultimately completed the project. It was one of the most entertaining rides I've put myself through.

This is a very mostly faithful recreation of the original game made by Valve, from the first tram ride all the way to the last. All of the maps have been beautifully recreated and reimagined to fit and work within the half-life 2 engine, the team behind this project pushed the engine as hard as they could and achieved a look often imagined by us when we played the original.

There's also Xen and wow they really put a lot of work into Xen. The original Xen was really just an old, tedious platforming slog that felt really out of place with the rest of the game. Here though? It's been completely redesigned and reimagined from the ground up and I can only say that it feels properly alien. It's much longer than the old Xen and introduces a lot of puzzles and even some new enemies along the way. Seriously, buckle in because it's a long ride.

The voice acting in the game is actually pretty good even though I'm a stickler for original voices. The scientists sound all nerdy and smart and the guards almost sound like barney, but not quite. They've taken a few fun liberties with the NPCs in this game and even created some fun dialogue not heard in the original. While there are some differences, it all plays and fits right in with the half-life universe.

The weapons are all wonderfully redesigned and recreated from the originals. You have your trusty crowbar, the pistol, revolver, smg, shotgun, crossbow, rocket launcher, tau cannon, gluon gun, grenades, trip mines, satchel charges, the hivehand and snarks. While the ammo counters are different from the original game, everything was rebalanced in order to encourage the usage of the whole arsenal.

Speaking of rebalance however, the soldiers in this game are actually incredibly frustrating in comparison to the rest of the enemies in this title. In the original, soldiers would have to move before shooting at Gordon. Here, however, they use the combine AI from Half-Life 2 and made it so that soldiers can fire their weapons while running, among other things. So none of the soldier fights really quite feel the same as in the original.

The enemy redesigns are all nice. The Bullsquid became much more of a threat with its wide acid spit spray, the Zombies have security and military skins now, the Vortigaunts have a pretty red eye glow and their bonds, the Alien Grunts honestly don't seem as menacing until Xen, the Houndeyes have strange movement and don't have a pack leader in groups. The headcrabs and barnacles are just ripped from HL2.

The bosses in the game all feel pretty good to fight, the dam helicopter went through numerous arena changes before they settled on a turret to combat it with, before you'd just use your tau cannon. The second helicopter is pretty straight forward as well, just stay behind cover and blow it up. I can't really count any of the tanks or APCs as bosses, so next would be the Gonarch. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ she's evil. Outside of shooting her until she dies, you'll be playing a game of cat and mouse until you're chased to her final arena (or not, you have some options for this).

Then there is the Nihilanth. Holy hell. What an ending to the videogame, just walking up to his portal alone was extremely badass. They did it so much justice that I looked back from the tower to see the journey I had made through Xen to reach this point. I went through the portal and a battle with an eldritch abomination began. Just like in the first game, his crystals need to be taken out in order to actually cause him any harm. I really appreciate how they didn't include his portal attack to send you to different areas and instead chose for him to summon rifts between Xen and Earth in order to chuck debris at you and parts of the facility at you. This is a very solid recreation of the original Nihilanth from Half-Life.

And let's not forget that music. Oh my god that MUSIC! 10/10 music. Seriously, Joel Nielsen knocked the soundtrack for this game out of the park and it literally makes up half of the experience. The earthbound soundtrack vs. the xen soundtrack is just so surreal, so awe-inspiring and so motivating that it actually helped me out in completing a seriously tough challenge that I otherwise wouldn't have tried to do by myself. Every single piece has its moment and it all just works so damn well together.

It may have taken years to reach this point, to be able to play the full release of Black Mesa but damn it was worth the wait. Totally worth the full price for a rose-tinted fool like me. If you can work around the half-life 2 source engine's mechanics and quirkiness, then it is highly recommended that you should play this.
