Fixed Eras (Historical)

Description
As for June 2019 update, this mod is not working as intended because the game's bonuses and penalties for being behind or ahead the current era just doesn't work.

Take this one with a HUGE grain of salt, ¿si?

___

Fixes the length of the Global Era to last 50 turns each (on Normal speed) (Ancient lasts double), resulting on a more accurate historical experience.

The in-game date gets a new meaning!

On normal speed (it works similarly close at other speeds), you can expect the eras starting at:

Classical Era - 375 BC
Medieval Era - 800
Renaissance - 1400
Industrial - 1700
Modern - 1860
Atomic - 1930
Informational - 1980
Future - 2025

These pairings aren't forced, but the product of allocating 50 turns per non-Ancient age, which are pretty similar to real life history.

Paired with my other mods (slower tech, civics and great people), this collection aim is to provide a more slow paced game where every war is surely determined on the players investments. This buffs production for short term goals while science/culture investments on the long run are more significant and deciding.

For slower tech:

For slower civics:

For slower great people production:

Since this collection makes such eras like Industrial and Modern more expansive and, thus, more polluting, I highly recommend a Global Warming slower such as:

This mod was conceived as a way to salvage use to the in-game date system, but since from 4000 BC to 275 BC is a long way to go, this made the Ancient Era to last longer.

This resulted on interesting situations where early empires were more feasible.

To truly experience this "Bronze Age," I highly recommend way more barbarians:

There's a lot to do regarding balances! Many Eurekas and Inspirations are way easier to obtain, and perhaps I am overlooking other BIG balance issues, so comment below :D

Hey, I am actually working on a similar thing to RSFEG! A -50%/+50% version :D

Gotta check what options are there available!

Thank you very much for this mod.
I really recommend playing this mod with these 2 others. Like that you would have a game in which the techs and civics are really blocked by time.

It works, alright, but the intended balance effects are still dead. Very dead. The mechanics of changing tech/civic costs depending of how advanced or behind you are in age have never been fixed, and my mod balancing depends on that.

For my taste, the fixed ages is anyway a nice flavor to have an use for in-game date system, so technically my mod always worked.

The quest to find a balanced game goes on, very much helped by you fine modders!

As a vendetta, I may create a mod that makes such bonuses and penalties STRONGAH!!! :undyne:
R2D2 3  [author] 3 Sep, 2019 @ 7:32am
Because it makes use of the bonuses and penalties for civics and techs for being behind or ahead the current global era.

Alas, the mechanic is broken in the current version T-T Yeah, this mod should do little to no effect for the time being. :/

The good news is Firaxis announced the September Update thingy, so hopefully this gets fixed, yes? :'3

I dont know. I use this together with the four mods to slow down the game that you recommend, but it seems the AI researches things way faster than i do. They seem to be more ahead of me than without this particular mod, using only the four mods you link to above. I have tried 3 playthroughs and it seems consistent with the AI researching faster than usual.

@Kurnn , this doesn't affect the eras in no way but it's length. (100 turns for Ancient, 50 turns for the others) :D

Does this effect the eras? I get new eras with tech and civics.
