Dalton is a fictional small town in the South Island of New Zealand. It lies somewhere between Kaikoura and Nelson, and is the headquarters of a very unique railway.

The railway runs from Dalton to Charlotte's Forest (the latter formerly being named 'Nasby'). There are just two intermediate stations; Caverswall Orchard and Moss Lane. The line is single-track throughout, apart from a crossing loop at Moss Lane station.

Motive power on the line consists of two V8 and one Side Rod locomotive, as well as two NR's and one DSG. The DSG is used for shunting coaches in Dalton and occasional works train duties. As for the V8's and Side Rod, they are the considered to be the "Pride of the Line" by their owners - Urban Dance. As such, they are responsible for hauling the regular passenger trains.

Lastly there is a heritage NZR-era train, which is only used on very special occasions. This train consisted of five 56ft coaches, with the motive power being DG 770 from the Weka Pass Railway.
