I hadn’t played in a while when an idea came to fulfill an operator request to reduce the risk of slipping off of the BBW Columbia. The challenge was that Columbia is set to spawn inside the starter dock with its very limited dimensions. It occurred to me that the side ladders were the big limiter on the width of the walkway. Working around them developed a new railing system well still deflecting glance hits. Other upgrades became added most notably making the upper engine and cargo bay fully enclosed for better arctic handling.

Thelon now in 2025 can handle a trip from the south to arctic and back. Thelon’s immense duration means you can play many missions between refueling.

Startup list:
Starting up: Overhead green switch Nav Lights to on. Gears off (optional). Throttle 40+%. Start button on 4 grid ahead of pilot.

Additional instructions are on paintable blocks around the craft.

The Thelon updates include:

= Wider walkways
= Enclosed to allow heater systems for cold weather and arctic operation
= Precision movement similar to the Yukon using secondary elector propellers. Pilot seat controls as:
1 = Inline forward
2 = Inline reverse
3 = Port bow thruster
4 = Stbd bow thruster
5 = Port aft thruster
6 = Stbd aft thruster
To sideslip use 3-5 or 4-6; to rotate use 3-6 or 4-5.
= Retains the excellent usage ergonomics for efficient game play of the river series with quick access to medical care, fire fighting systems and easy engine access for repairs and fire extinguishing.
= Wildlife defense as 2 sets of armor (@beds), 2 pistols with ammo (@ beds) and 2 rifles with ammo (@aft fuel stbd). A set of C4 with controller (@aft fuel stbd) is present for sinking navigation hazards.
= Rear deck reorganized to use a hinge for the ramps to switch between safety and the gaps needed for anchor handling.
= Squatter dorsal mast allowing for room on the bottom for skis as protection from belly impacts such as floating ice.
= Inversion propellers raised onto the mast. This to reduce risks of player killing themselves jumping into them from the main deck. Also gives it a lot of torque for powered self righting.
= Eight (8) electric motors controlled by pilot seat for precision maneuvering.
= Second crewman (player) bedding more cabin like with a full height door to access.
= Addition of a second pump located in the aft fuel room as another way to eject flooding.
= Roof hatch for access such as when repairing during flooding damages.
= Stern winch upgraded to large with fluid relay connector for fuel or air. Longer cord for deeper water or better kedging (dropping anchor far out then winching the boat to the anchor)
= Increased anchor to 3 magall for kedging (pulling boat by anchor such as if beached)
= Interior updates
= Working desalination (mostly to roleplay ability to make freshwater on long journies)
= Lower deck fire fighting hoses with main pump in lower cabin and a small pump aft fuel room (also feeds to stern deck fire hose connection)

2025 updates:
= Belly wings to improve speed and/or range
= Range now over 200 km making Thelon self capable of a round trip to the arctic!
= Top speed increased from 16 to 20+ m/s
= Pitch control improved to benefit from belly wings as 3 forward and 1 reverse with tests to optimize for slow/medium/fast speeds
= Added flag and rotating light
= Cleaned up crew air intake to one snorkel now with on/off switch at bridge (in case of hazardous air)
= Air conditioning cooling setup for the pilot house/bridge, galley and sleeping room only. Slow but works. Toggle button on starboard bridge as default is off for noise and its normally going arctic.
= Electrical wiring updated to new procedure
= Added a medium fuel tank to join the others for a better safety margin on an arctic round trip
= Bridge overhead reorganized
= Mid and aft lower hull 1 block wider for displacement to counter increase in weight
= Corrected/improved various minor items

Modular engines not expected as speed is already limited by control surfaces coming out of the water.

Non weapon DLC users should be fine. None of the weapons or ammo are in critical positions. As I understand it if you don’t have the DLC it will still spawn the vehicle with those spots empty.

Which winch for the air port in the engine room?
Brygun  [author] 6 Apr @ 2:11pm
Updated today bringing several of the game updates.
= Cabin air conditioners for cooling.
= Rotating light.
= worked in belly wings to increase top speed from 16 to ~21 m/s
= Range increased by belly wings and one more medium tank to over 200 km

This means that Thelon is now capable of a round trip to the arctic and back!

@Cap10_Bull@

Check out the Clyde. Its bigger, faster and has all of Thelon & Yukon to match the fast cruise of the Pike Interceptor 20 m/s (40 knots) for 200 km

And it has a detailed guide for it too.

:steamhearteyes:Wow, it's been some time after working with the Columbia and now I find this gem. Respect.
I had two tsunami waves on my very first deployment - I capsized on both. 1. With the inversion propeller no problem - immediately I was back on my feet. 2. was trickier - I had a ship in tow and both boats had got stuck. Here I would have liked to have an exit to swim out for loosing the rope. In the end it went also in such a way.
If only the small Allrounder would be a little faster - still my new favorite for "cozy" rescue missions.
Thanks for this little giant. :selike:
(And fewer buttons.):steamhappy:
