Accurate Bovine Graphics

Description
This mod updates the look of cows, yaks, and water buffalo, in addition to giving them layered graphic support for all of the domestic fur colors!

In addition, cows now have separate spots descriptors on their bodies, which can also be the same range of colors as their main hair color. Cow's fur and spots are weighted in favor of being different shades of brown, white, and black. Though more 'exotic' colors like gold and yellow are still possible!

This is part of an expanding series of expanded animal graphic mods. If you would like to see the other mods in this series:

Accurate Dog Graphics here!

If you would like to use all these mods at the same time, you can also use the compilation of all of them here!

KNOWN ISSUES

The SDL2 update for Dwarf Fortress seems to have introduced some weird bugs in regards to layered creatures (animals specifically, not entities). Effects of this include:

  • Any animal child with layered graphics, upon growing up, will not have it's sprite updated until the save file is reloaded.

  • Animated sprites for the creature will not display, instead just using the normal sprite.
These bugs can be seen in vanilla with any wagon pullers, and unfortunately extend to animals in this mod series. Nothing that can be done except hope the bug is fixed in the game itself.

Credit to ryno for the lovely sprites, and mcnuggy for the coding.

@Exile there's a line in the info.txt that reads "[REQUIRES_ID_AFTER_ME:vanilla_creatures_graphics]" this is to ensure people load this mod before vanilla graphics, as it wont function if loaded after—however, with how Dwarf Fortress' mod tokens work, this means the mod load order required "vanilla_creatures_graphics" in the load order, even though the mod itself doesn't actually depend on vanilla graphics. And DF wont allow you to create a new world if there are any missing/out of order mods based on their tokens.

If you have vanilla_creatures_graphics in your load order, make sure this mod is positioned above it. If you have another mod that removes/replaces vanilla_creatures_graphics (like nauts equipment graphics, or fantastic fantasy fortress, ect), remove the "[REQUIRES_ID_AFTER_ME:vanilla_creatures_graphics]" from this mod's info.txt, and load it before whatever mod you have that replaces vanilla graphics.

Amazing work once again! Good idea to add the known issues info, thanks for the quick reply about that on the other mod.
