Accurate Ungulate Graphics

Description
This mod updates the look of pigs, reindeer, and both types of camel, in addition to giving them layered graphic support for all of the domestic hair colors!

Pigs also have spots that can come in all of the same colors their hair can, but are weighed in favor of being various shades of orange, black, white, and yellow.

This is part of an expanding series of expanded animal graphic mods. If you would like to see the other mods in this series:

Accurate Dog Graphics here!

If you would like to use all these mods at the same time, you can also use the compilation of all of them here!

KNOWN ISSUES

The SDL2 update for Dwarf Fortress seems to have introduced some weird bugs in regards to layered creatures (animals specifically, not entities). Effects of this include:

  • Any animal child with layered graphics, upon growing up, will not have it's sprite updated until the save file is reloaded.

  • Animated sprites for the creature will not display, instead just using the normal sprite.
These bugs can be seen in vanilla with any wagon pullers, and unfortunately extend to animals in this mod series. Nothing that can be done except hope the bug is fixed in the game itself.

Credit to ryno for the lovely sprites, and mcnuggy for the coding.

Yeah please do this for whales. Since albino Sperm whales are pretty much the rarest thing in the game. Would be cool to actually see one.

does this include whales?

@curious There is in fact inheritance of traits. This is the wiki page on it https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Genetics

@Curious as far as I'm aware, animals will usually be the same color as one of their parents at random, but may occasionally be a completely different color. Though I'll admit I haven't done much testing in that regard.

Would you happen to know if breeding certain animals together can have their appearances pass down generations? I've never really thought of it til using these mods

@unclebucktooth Honestly, I only expected the cats and dogs mods to be made. So I figured it would be better to release them in separate mods. If any other domestic animals were made, I figured they would take quite a bit of time to be finished, but ryno (the one making the sprites themselves) works very fast on them, so they've released much faster than I could've anticipated.

In retrospect it would've made more sense to release them in one pack from the get-go, but alas.

Once the final few domestic animals are finished though, I was going to make a big all in one pack that will hopefully alleviate that issue.

Hi, these look great but I'm curious why you're releasing them in so many small parts? It would be nice to just subscribe to _Accurate animal graphics_ and wait for updates to expand the content. It seems like it would be easier to keep track of feedback and bugs that way too.

Is there some benefit to doing it this way?

@Curious after all the domestic animals were done, we planned to put them into one mod, yes.

Woah, these mods are awesome. Do you plan to put them all together in one big mega mod one day?
