Offworlders - The Biliog

Description
This is the first in a series called Offworlders, which aims to fill in the gaps I felt existed between in-game genes and premade xenotypes. Offworlders as a series is meant to avoid bloat and simply act as a means flesh out biotech's available resources.

Born from a genetic union of wasters and impids, biliog are highly attuned to operate various branches of the drug cartels their ancestry founded. While they easily hold their own in matters of planting psychite, resisting pollution, and distance combat, they too inherited the flaws of their more established kin. The trade-off for their more unique talents are their hideous appearances, lack of psychic and melee prowess, and dependency on psychite.

In outlander circles, the biliog are scorned for their ties to the Bilo crime family - a group responsible for much of colonized space's pervasive drug presence. On most rimworlds, they prefer to blend into existing factions, favoring waster and impid communities. Staying out of trouble is the best form of cover, at least when your flake-addled body isn't quite suited for a run-in with the authorities.

More established black market networks are not uncommon on backwater toxworlds, especially those untouched by the self-righteous eyes of the empire. Wherever it is you crash-land in this unforgiving expanse of space, diplomats be wary. These mutant druglords are just as powerful enemies as they are allies.

NEW FACTION
Rough Cartel
Culture: Kriminul
Tech Level: Spacer
A loose confederation of cartel goons who've agreed to mostly fight outsiders instead of fighting each other. Unlike other pirate groups, those in the cartel are equally inclined to trade as they are to raid. This flexibility allows them to gain powerful allies, and grow their network.

Mangy Hair
Complexity: 0
Metabolism: 0
Carriers of this gene experience rapid hair loss, making them appear like an animal with mange.

PATCHES
Mangy hair gene on Wasters
I always thought it was odd that wasters didn't actually look very ugly. This mod patches them to have the "mangy hair" gene. If I can figure out how, I'd like to implement an option to toggle this in the future - but as it stands, it's not a priority.

Added to existing factions
For those who don't like faction bloat (like myself) but still want to see Biliog in-game, they've been patched to appear somewhat uncommonly in the Pirate, Waster Pirate, and Impid Tribe factions. With a combat power of 1.1, they're about as likely to spawn as Impids.

F.A.Q.
Q: You should add (thing, thing, thing) to this mod!
A: Maybe I should! If I do, it may not be for a while, though. My modding ability is still somewhat limited.

Q: Is this compatible with (other mod)?
A: So long as that other mod doesn't change the way faction defs and xenotype defs work, most likely!

Q: Do you plan on updating (other mods)?
A: Yes, but don't expect updates to come quickly unless more serious errors are occurring. Adding new flowery content is a secondary priority to making sure everything works.

RECOMMENDED MODS
Ugly Together - This specifically makes a colony of all hideous pawns less of a pain to deal with. Highly reccomended to use alongside this mod, for reasons that should be obvious.

(3/19/2024) Updated for compatibility with 1.5, no render nodes seem to have needed changing. But it won't give you warnings in RimPy for being out of date, now.

(12/11/2023) Added a new starting scenario, New Cartel. It trades off better starting gear for less components, less medicine, and less silver. Also added a custom name-maker for biliog pawns, to avoid monotony. Aaaand on a lesser note, I also updated the xenotype and faction icons to be higher res, since they looked odd to me on the world map/in menus.

(11/22/2023) Changed "Unattractive" gene to "Very Unattractive" per the request of some folks who made good points. Plus, can't really argue with that metabolism boost.

@Csrszegi yes i plan to update all my mods for each new version. However I've been busy with a new job so I make no guarantees about how soon the updates will be out.

Hello! I was wondering if you plan to update your mod to 1.6. I am planning my mod list in advance. And I would love to use some of your mods. Thanks for the answer.

@Translenderman - You are correct. I just loaded it by itself, and I didn't see the warning. It must be a conflict with one of the mods. I'll keep my eye out and let you know if I figure out the combination of mods that is causing it.

@ColossalFossil hmmm. i don’t get that warning, there’s a chance it may be a mod conflict on your end. i will double check when i’m home from work, but last time i played they arrived normally as traders and other miscellaneous pawns during gameplay.

Hi there. I don't know if it is just an erroneous message, but when first loading the game and looking at my dev log before loading a world, I see the following warning:

FactionDef OW_RoughCartel must have at least one pawnGroupMaker with kindDef 'Peaceful', or 'permanentEnemy', 'isPlayer' or 'hidden' should be set to true. Otherwise no guests from this faction will arrive. This is a misconfiguration in Offworlders - The Biliog

Updated to 1.5, didn't look like any changes needed to be made since most of the genes are Ludeon-made. But it shouldn't give warnings in RimPy for being outdated, anymore.

Doing the Lord's work with this new series. We needed some lightweight xenotype mods, this hits a perfect niche.
