The Artemis United Coalition, founded in a system inspired by the Cygnus Star System, a binary star system approx. 12 light years form Sol, rose to power after the Great Exodus. Growing population, depletion of resources, and mounting tensions spurned on the evacuation of those with the ability to do so and fled, leaving behind the dying and doomed Sol. Once they arrived in Artemis, rapid expansion saw the rise of a robust industry but also a rise in piracy. Being far more plentiful in resources than Sol at its prime, more than a few decided that it mattered little if they pilfered the hard work of colonists and took what they could. This heinous activity gave rise to what later became the official governing body in the system. To combat the threat, they designed and implemented war technology at a rapid rate and eventually took hold and now maintain their authority.

To prevent a repeat of the 'Tragedy of Sol', all laws are made public for viewing and require a 75% acceptance rating before they can be accepted and enforced. Politics are not allowed to be swayed by profit. Any caught disregarding this are stripped of all social privileges and spend the rest of their natural life working on remote outposts guarded by AUC operatives.

The AUC military technology undergoes reformations more frequently than most would find natural because they have been forced to adapt to increasing hostilities from several fronts. A notable example, the SOR, who are Sol sympathizers and wish to turn Artemis into a vassal system for Sol; engaging in piracy, domestic terrorism, and occasionally attacking AUC fleets and stations.

Another major threat is Sol itself. In their desperation, they have resorted to melting down their now defunked colonies, dead mining stations, and even cities in an effort to get the necessary metal to build war fleets that they send on one way trips to Artemis. The goal being that even if they cannot beat the fleets protecting the system, then perhaps a few ships can make it to a habitable world and settle; eventually creating a population that will be more accepting of Sol and their inhabitants. Presently, the AUC makes a point of completely destroying any vessel that approaches the surrounding asteroid field that encases Artemis.

Finally, the SDC. A faction that also came from Sol but settled on the other side of the system. While arriving slightly ahead of the inhabitants of the AUC, it was not by much and only because it was a sponsored effort by the USG that was ultimately abandoned. Up to this point, there has been no outright hostile acts from either side but rather a delicate non aggression policy. The SDC produce very large but less numerous ships than the AUC, partially a direct result of seeing the rapid expansion and militarily oriented populace of the AUC. Ironically, initially the reason the AUC produced so many ships was because the ships produced by the SDC were somewhat larger so the concept of numerical advantage was kept in play. A fortuitous misunderstanding between the two that allowed the AUC to fend off the Sol incursions. It is now simply a matter of war doctrine to maintain higher numbers and to ensure military training is required for all AUC inhabitants.

Below you can find a list of ships that are and were in frequent use in Artemis. Although older generations of ships are no longer in production and thus see no action, a policy of the AUC is to keep one of each type in reserve for posterity purposes. These ships rest in what is known as the 'Honored Grave Dock'. A place in space that is patrolled at all times by Fleets 3 & 8. The fleets are rotated out for the new ships first and foremost whenever a new generation of vessels is developed and tested. The location of this final resting place for the AUC ships is highly confidential. All non authorized vessels; military, civilian, or otherwise, that are not given permission to approach are immediately terminated to ensure the security of the local space.
