Swerborg Gottborg (Bjornlings)

Description
At a Glance:
A large map that contains A norscan settlement and a vast swathe of forest, the map is set up for seige games but is large enough to accomodate land battles as well.

Swerborg Gottborg: Port City
Population: Around 9000 souls, in flux constantly.
(the map has enough housing for this many inhabitants)

Large proportion of population is slave thrall workers, they work the docks and farms. They also serve as ritual sacrifice and war fodder.

Swerborg Gottborg, or 'Goteburg' as the Bjornlings refer to it is a major port city on the South-West Coast of Norsca. It lies as the major supply point for any ships that seek passage into the "Sea of Claws".

Because of its position between the Middle Sea and the Sea of Claws, Swerborg does see quite a bit of trade traffic, most however are headed to the more prosperous Aarvik or Stromstaad. This makes Swerborg mainly a port of resupply and rest. As such the city has accomodations for foreigners that are well kept and rather extravagent for the typical Norscan settlement.

The continued trade and diplomacy with Marienburg has seen most of the Southern Norscan port cities grow exponentially and it is no different for Swerborg where goods and ideas from all over the world come to travel into the ports of Norsca and the Empire.

The docks are full of bustle and work as slaves and workers from all over the world tend to the cities needs, only in the larger Norscan cities and Marienburg will you find such a diverse set of peoples congregating in one place.

The settlement is located on the coast not just for ease of trade and shipbuilding but because the monsters that roam Norsca do so mainly inland. Bjornlings have a fairly strong grasp on the city and dont fear its conquer by other clans, instead the defence of the city is mainly against those beasts that would venture towards them. They have contstructed wooden stake barricades to keep them at bay, should this first line of defence fail Norscans are always hungry to earn glory in battle.

The Cities major export is Longships, the Bjornlings are particularly adept at the creation of the vaunted Longship and they are often working on them for other Clans. As such the City has a major ship building yard and has adapted most of the cities industrial output towards new ship creation.

This map is intended to be used with my Overhaul Mod.

However it is not required for play and should work fine with any mods.

Maruka is currently updating this map for Warhammer 2 and specifically for GCCM

Same problem as these guys :(. You should reduce the playable area to only the camp and the enemy deployment zone. Because no-one uses that space. Also, the spaces between the huts need to be increased because unit pathing isn't very good.

Beautiful map, but playing this in the campaign, there is some issue. The look of the city is great, but it's causing some issue. The AI don't really do well with this map, mainly because of the narrow corridor between the huts in the central section of the camp, pathing is kind broken and the units tend to split betweena all the houses and break formation all the time.

This is also a problem for maneuvering the attacker force to the top of the camp. Maybe as a sugestion, just remove a few of the buildings or let an open area in the center of the central section to at least have place for a few units.

Maps look great and I think a few tweak here and there coould make it an awesome maps to look and to play. Thanks for sharing your work with the community @Wakelessrex

Just played this in a campaign - the map looks INCREDIBLE but unfortunately it played really badly for me :'(

I was assaulting the enemy town - I really struggled to get my units to go through the gate as it's too narrow. The huts inside the wall are also too tightly packed in too, the game seemed to really struggle to find somewhere to place my units. In the end it was a really uninspiring grind as hundreds of troops were clogged up together in their second gate and no units could move at all.
The rest of the map looks stunning (the longboats pulled in on the land look particularly cool).

It would be really cool if the defenders could start outside of the town a bit (with the option then of falling back inside if they need to) which would also mean you could fight in the open ground. If the way into the camp was made a little wider too that might help with the pathfinding struggles. Currently, 90% of the map is never used in the battle, which is a shame as it looks really awesome.

Very well-done map. Great attention to detail, and I had fun on it even though I only faced a 6 unit garrison of Norsca. My only criticism is that it is hard to manuever large numbers of units through the bottom rung of the settlement. Not really a big deal, as it creates lots of chokepoints for the defenders, but trying to move units in formation caused some lag. Overall great work, very reminicient of a Skyrim mod I have seen.

Um... just played in campaign. and theres a problem - reinforcements don't work.

Attacked it as Kraka drak with a Lord solo and the main army in a reinforcement stack, which didn't show up

Proof that smaller town maps could have been done. Anyway, excellent map!

This is pretty much what id imagine a norse settlement would look like, alot like the norse in our history. Afterall... Norsca is a civilisation too...
The only criticism i have aestheticaly is the lack of chaotic symbolism. Stuff like sacrifical altars, ruinous icons, skulls and heads on spikes just to name a few examples...

Other than that i have no real problems with the map. Looks fantastic and it adds a new settlement for the norse :D
