Version 1.2.1 - Medium content and compatibility update for patch 1.5.1 (was playable before, but now I've implemented Paradox' improvements in 1.5.1 in the few files that are still not standalone for this mod)

Content

  • Added three new focuses and seven new events to go with them. Localisation, tooltips and functionality to make them fully useable have all been added.

  • Put in some functionality to the "The British Empire" focus in the European part of the Monarchist branch. Also modified the requirements just a bit.

  • Added new focus icons for several focuses. One more from the Kaiserreich team (Orkney and Shetland icon, which the mod description has been updated for), and several more which Paradox added in 1.5.0 and 1.5.1. Examples include "Modern Escort Ships", "Capital Ships" and "Seek American Military Support".

  • A mutual opinion modifier has been added to the "Join the Allies" focus. In addition, siding with Britan like this makes them bypass the "Scandinavian Intervention" and "Norwegian Intervention" focuses (without the effects), as they now believe you'll join their side in the conflict.

  • The "Finish the Nordland Line" focus now has a bypass if your infrastructure is sufficient in the affected states already.

  • Added new functionality to the "Preliminary Loyalist Armament Industry" decision in preparation for the Monarchist civil war. It now highlights the states affected, and it utilizes a couple of civilian factories for a while to represent the construction. Afterwards, you get the factories, as well as a temporary idea boosting your factory output at the cost of utilizing more consumer goods. The "State Armament Investments" idea has been changed to represent its new function representing the set up of new production lines, rather than constructing the factories (localization included).

Localisation

  • Added a pretty extensive leader description to Haakon VII (as an actual leader, a description which is much more extensive than the popular figurehead idea/national spirit). To get him, go down the Monarchist path and make the Monarchy at least a bit more absolute to get him as an actual leader.

  • Made Johan Ludwig Mowinckel's leader description a lot more extensive and descriptive.

  • Shortened certain event option texts that were too long to fit inside the buttons.

  • General improvements on event texts and otherwise.

  • Added heavy fighter tech bonus references to several event options for those without the TfV expansion (those players get tech bonuses instead of tech sharing groups). Now if only I'd bother finding some translators for this mod...

Balance and fixes

  • Updated the mod for 1.5.1, implementing changes such as the unique color for the Japanese cosmetic tag (Showa restoration).

  • Made a unique technology sharing file instead of adding mod funtionality into the base tech sharing file. This should make future updates easier to implement and general compatibility better.

  • Also made the requirements to be in (or stay in) the Nordic technology sharing group a bit more leninent in case the faction breaks or some other weird stuff happens.

  • Rebalanced the Norwegian land commanders again. I realized that they're supposed to get three skill points per level above 1, and as such I've modified this to fit with the new customs in the base game. Some commanders have gone up in their general level so I could represent them as I saw fit. More rebalancing may come later, as I didn't have time to put too extensive research into this yet.

  • Fixed descriptions inside the event file (and other files) to make future modding life more comfy for myself. Also corrected some factual errors in my modding notes (telling me an event was incorrectly only shown to this and this nation, etc.)

  • Removed some redundant localisation that lingered from something it turned out I didn't need after all.

  • Fixed certain errors in the Dano-Norwegian deal event chain. Especially the most extreme and rare outcome of Denmark declaring war on Norway posed some trouble to me. Also made sure to add functionality to remove Denmark from the Nordic faction in the case of this happening.

  • Fixed a country flag issue, with two events, a focus and a decision checking for a non-existant flag. Now they check for the intended country flag.

  • Fixed the "Demand the Northern Islands" focus to affect Shetland and Orkney (added in update 1.2.0 of this mod), instead of the Scottish Highlands. Now the subsequent "Demand Scottish Land" gives you a claim on the Scottish Highlands in addition to the other parts of Scotland instead.

  • Switched certain focuses to check for, or add stuff for, "ROOT" instead of "NOR", thus making the focuses usable in the unlikely event of a temporary tag (D01, D02, ..., Dxx) taking over Norway and the focus tree after a civil war.

  • Once and for all removed the Finnish history file from the mod (it unintentionally lingered in the mod due to copy-pasting over the old version at one point), as it was more trouble than it was worth, and I didn't feel like balancing my added Mannerheim to the new changes to land commanders, especially when there are really good Finland mods out there. The mod should now be more compatible with other mods, especially Finland mods. The Finnish idea file and changes to three Finnish states still linger though.

  • Put the Haakon VII idea icon into the same folder as all the other idea icons for simplicity, and changed the interface file to lead it to the new location.

Version 1.2.0b - Single fix update

Balance and fixes

  • Correction for missing "OR" statement in the election cycle event of 1938. Now it correctly doesn't trigger either if Norway is in a civil war or they're an absolute monarchy, rather than both being necessary.

Update: 10 Mar, 2018 @ 3:15pm

Version 1.2.0a - Small fixes and localisation corrections/improvements

Localisation

  • Fixed errors in Norwegian decisions to prepare for a Monarchist civil war. Also some removed redundant spacing here.

  • Shortened certain event texts that were too long (and would go under the option buttons).

  • Improved on certain event texts as well.

  • Reworked the description text of "Delegate Merchant Fleet Control" focus.

  • Fixed certain capitalization errors in cosmetic countries' names.

Balance and fixes

  • Added extra checks for the election cycle event of '38, so it will not trigger if in a civil war or if having ended up with abolished elections in the Monarchist path.

  • Fixed Norwegian civil war event being shown as a standard event instead of a news event (causing the news event picture to not fit).

  • Added a bit of war support to certain core and/or wargoal granting focuses.

  • Made one of the infantry equipment bonuses into a bonus for either infantry weapons or artillery. The focus tree lacked artillery research bonuses before.

Version 1.2.0 - Large content update, and compatibility for "Waking the Tiger" DLC and Cornflakes patch

Content

  • Reshuffled political tree.

  • Added a large Monarchist branch to the political tree.

  • New ideas have been created to go with the Monarchist branch.

  • Switched icons for some ideas and focuses to make them look better and more varied.

  • Added a new focus for the Allies path. Full functionality with related ideas not yet implemented.

  • Updated old code to "Waking the Tiger" standard. Added war support and stability effects where fitting (also command power, though that is much rarer).

  • Updated all commanders for the update. Added fitting personality traits and skill levels. My opinion is that with the new tools and split skills it was much easier to give the player a taste of the in-game commanders' real equivalents. Personality traits have been utilized heavily. As generals now keep their skills when being promoted, I felt comfortable making Carl Gustav Fleischer a general instead of a field marshal. You can promote him to high(er) command later for that historical accuracy.

  • Implemented base files for decisions. Added decisions for monarchist civil war (I highly recommend the one which lets you keep ALL your commanders, industry decision being a close second, for reasons you may all find scary) when you have the staunch monarchist. Speaking of...

  • Added Fredrik Wedel Jarlsberg as a pro-monarchy advisor.

  • Added some very fancy unit spawning for the Norwegian Monarchist Civil War. Both sides will get temporary locked template units helping them out, with custom names for the occasion! It's inspired by Paradox' new German Civil War, but the question is, did I balance the civil war like them? Find out for yourselves if you dare...

  • Updated old states and their references to new numbers to account for new states added in WtT. Added Shetland and Orkney states and land integration events for them. Also implemented Paradox' resource changes in old states that I had modified.

  • Added Stavanger and Tromsø as new cities in Western and Northern Norway.

  • Four new focus icons and a portrait of King Haakon VII with credits to the Kaiserreich team.

  • Improved formatting of certain earlier graphical assets. A couple of commanders, the King Haakon idea portrait, and the Hydro logo are now of a higher resolution. As such the pictures are crisper, though the mod is now 1 mb larger than before (partially because of the increased image quality).

  • Improved readability in files, as such the mod will be easier to maintain. Also removed Finnish country file to increase compatibility. Finnish idea file changes are still in though.

  • Added many new events, mainly relating to the new monarchist path, but also some like giving Denmark some choices in the Dano-Norwegian deal, with an event chain of 8 events for different outcomes there. Also added information event for the Fennoscandian deal (with war support effects for the dealbrokers and the neighbouring Soviets), and added tooltips to both deals in the focus tree.

  • Improved checks for when the focuses are available to pick, and when the AI picks them. Historical focus weights have been improved, with AI Norway always going "Affirm Constitutional Monarchy" (democratic path) in historical games, and most of the time even without.

  • Modified starting base stability in the Norwegian country file to account for the "Haakon VII" national spirit.

  • Added a trait to Johan Ludwig Mowinckel (leader of Venstre), and added three traits to Haakon VII as leader (as well as the possibility to make him leader in the monarchist path).

  • Added a unique cosmetic tag which can be choosen in an event from the new monarchist path.

  • Added two unique news event pictures and two unique standard event pictures.

  • Added three unique flags, including the quite requested NS party flag. Good thing I'm becoming better at cropping and editing images.

  • Switched the "Telemark Bataljon" focus and template to something much more appropriate for the period. Now you can merge the ranger/jäger battalions of Norway, "1. Jegerbataljon", "2. Jegerbataljon", and "3. Jegerbataljon", into a new elite division, which comes with a new elite 7/2 mountaineer template.

Localisation

  • Added WORK IN PROGRESS tooltip for focuses that are not recommended to pick yet.

  • Added many new tooltips with fancy colors to many focuses, and some decisions.

  • Custom decision texts for unique Norwegian decisions (though not yet refined and perfected text).

  • Improved on Paradox' naming in Norwegian unit lists.

  • Added cosmetic name for an Icelandic subject state of Monarchist Norway.

  • Attempted to add Icelandic fleet numbering (like for Norway).

  • The Norwegian Monarchist special cosmetic tags has had unique names added for all ideologies (though I absolutely recommend staying non-aligned as that goes with the focus branch).

  • Improved naming and decriptions on several focuses, "Affirm Constitutional Monarchy" and "Reject Constitutional Monarchy" being examples of this.

  • Switched names of carrier classes from whales to Norwegian counties. While the whale names have been removed from the classes, they can still appear as names of individual carriers alongside county names. In addition I added more possible names based on counties to the carrier naming pool.

Balance and fixes

  • Rebalanced the "Heimevernet" idea to be more defensively oriented. Now it and its constituent ideas have been changed. "Heimevernet" gets 1,5% LESS recruitable population than before, but it gets +5% attack on core territory and +25% cold acclimatization to somewhat make up for it.

  • The "Partisan Leader" trait (for Gunnar Sønsteby) now gets +5% defence on core territory in addition to previous effects.

  • Added support for the election change event of '38 to also affect a non-aligned/monarchist Norway if they have elections. Also removed the ideology popularity requirements (now just not be fascist or communist).

  • Implemented better controls on which ideas are kept by which side in the case of a civil war.

Version 1.1.4 - Content, functionality, and localisation update. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all subscribers and visitors!

Content

  • Norway now starts with basic artillery researched. Kudos here goes to SHANE55 and SkyForger.

  • As I found late game research was a little too powerful for a non-major country (especially if one spent both of the Norsk Hydro electrical research bonuses on further research increasing computing technologies). This has been toned down by removing the respective 1% and 2% additional research speed from the high tier naval production ideas/national spirits. It's now been replaced with a nice, but slightly less powerful 1-2% consumer goods freed up for construction/trade. It's also fitting since Norway was a decently well off and industrialized nation (with Norwegian sailor wages higher than, for example, their British equivalent ones).

  • While the focus tree is pretty good when you have everything, it still takes more than 10 years of ingame time to finish in its entirety, even with no continuous focuses or breaks. As such, "Ski Infantry" and "Equipment Effort" focuses are now 35 days instead of 70 days each. "Mountaineers" however, has been increased to 70 days again. This should frontload the power of the Army focuses a tad, while saving one month of the time the focus tree takes overall.

  • The unlockable basic mountaineer template, "Bergjegere", has been reduced to 6 battalions instead of previous 9 battalions. This should make the later unlockable elite template, "Telemark Bataljon" (might later undergo a namechange, as "Telemark Bataljon" was established several decades after the war), more worthwhile with its 9 battalions, support engineers, and recon units.

  • Lowered the ideology drift from the "National Collectivism" and "Socialist Collectivism" ideas.

  • Removed the bypass for "Join the Allies", and also changed it into a functionality similar to "Join the Axis"/"Join the Comintern" with a non-aggression pact and a large increase in AI willingness to ally.

  • Added a powerful ability to puppet nations as a non-fascist/non-communist nation under the "Pragmatic Diplomacy" focus.

Localisation

  • Added yellow text to certain key words in several focus tooltips to make their text clearer to read and their functionality more understandable.

  • "At any Cost" focus now has a capital "C" in the word "Cost". Now the mod is more "literally playable".

  • Improved localisation for the "Gutta på Skauen" idea/national spirit.

  • Went through the events file and added technology bonus localisation references where I could.

  • Improved localisation of several focuses, such as the "Ski Infantry", "Mountaineers", and "Join the Allies" focuses.

Update: 22 Nov, 2017 @ 10:18am

Version 1.1.2 - Large content and graphics update

Content

  • Added new generals and admirals, as well as leader portraits from the Kaiserreich mod with their permission. Visual flavor has never been this good.

  • Added 8 new designer logos, also from the Kaiserreich team. Also made some of the generic companies into these Norwegian companies and added some additional flavor text here and there.

  • Bergen is now worth 5 victory points, up from previous 3.

  • Rebalanced some commander skills and traits. Birger Eriksen down one skill level, Jacob Hvinden Haug now has the ranger trait instead of the hill fighter trait.

  • Created some more original technology bonus localisation references for things that are not there in vanilla HoI IV. Added these references to some relevant places.

  • Also made sure to rebalance a few commanders worked into this mod from the Kaiserreich mod along with their portraits, such as Carsten Tank-Nielsen, who was known as a good blockade runner during the Russo-Japanese war.

Update: 16 Nov, 2017 @ 5:49pm

Version 1.1.1 - Content and localisation update

Content

  • Added 5 new generals (rank colonel and above within the Norwegian military at the time) and made Kristian K. Laake a skill 2 field marshal within the game to represent his high rank and standing (with rebalanced traits as well)

  • Added new functionality to the "Capital Ships" focus. Now it temporarily costs you consumer goods, but it allows you an upgraded version of Horten Naval Yard which gives some bonuses to capital ships (especially heavy cruisers), as I found you should have the option to have some flavor for focusing on something other than just screens

  • Also added flavor texts to Horten Naval Yard and its upgraded version

  • Added flavor localisations to all industrial concerns and added "Christiania Spigerverk" as well. A company logo may come at a later date

  • Added a starting production line of convoys to save some initial clicks at the start of the game for those who want to produce them. It's 0% complete though, so as not to be a gameplay buff, but rather just QoL for the setup

  • "Seek American Support" now adds a bit of political power to certain faction members in addition to Norway. This to somewhat mirror the effects of the mutually exclusive "Pragmatic Diplomacy", which actually takes some political power away from those same countries

Fixes and balancing

  • Fixed a factual error in Ivar Lykke's leader description

  • Added localisation references to more of the technology bonuses to further prepare the mod for non-English versions. An example is the bonus to nuclear research from the Rjukan Heavy Water focus.

  • Removed Birger Eriksen's engineer trait, as I felt it was a little too abstract to represent expertise on shooting methods as a bonus to river crossings

  • Shortened the time the "An End to Foreign Influence" focus takes, as it needed to be more responsive (those foreign influence ideas shift politics relatively quickly I noticed). Also the Nordic branch is already enormous and takes a long time to go through

  • Also rebalanced AI attitudes from both the two "A Stand Against..." focuses in the Nordic branch, as well as the focuses for joining the Axis, Comintern or Allies. Additionally it was done for "Seek American Support" (even though that was one I got pretty right from the start). It's absolutely glorious how it works now, they'll let you license produce even super modern carriers, but do no more than give you no more than the faintest of hope of allying or guaranteeing you, which will most likely go unfulfilled. It's so nice when things work as intended. Though you'll probably get some volunteers at least, so that's something

  • Added a new event to better inform you of what's going on when you rebrand your Nordic faction. Previously the acceptance event for forming the initial "Three Brothers" faction was used

Update: 6 Nov, 2017 @ 9:32am

Version 1.1.0b - Modest fixing and localisation update

Fixes and balancing

  • Improved some idea localisations

  • Fixed some bad event localisation references

  • Added name references to most technology bonuses (as opposed to just a name), making future localisation work for the mod easier, and thus also marking a modest start for the mod supporting other languages than English

  • Rebalanced motorized bonuses in the Army tree. Also shortened the time the "Mountaineers" focus takes

  • Added hidden effects to certain technology sharing focuses so your puppets can also enjoy technology sharing bonuses (for all four political paths)

  • Fixed the popup spam when Germany, Slovakia and Vichy France join the Axis research. Now you only get the popup once, for Germany

  • Also made the alternate technology bonuses for those that don't have TfV (and tech sharing groups) a bit more fitting to the country you approach

  • Possibly a few other changes, but I can't remember

Update: 5 Nov, 2017 @ 8:17am

Version 1.1.0a - Small localisation update

Fixes

  • Changed tank destroyer names to be more accurate (now "Panserjager" instead of the more general term "Panservern")

  • Corrected localisation on the Swedish name for the state Bohuslän

Update: 4 Nov, 2017 @ 4:46pm

Version 1.1.0 - Huge content and localisation update

Content

  • Added Jamtland state (Swedish: Jämtland)

  • Added (colonel) Birger Eriksen

  • Added many new events, including a couple of news events (now well over fifty unique events in total!)

  • Added three new cities (Fredrikstad, Hamar and Frösön)

  • Added five new focuses and one new idea

  • Added leader descriptions for all political leaders (except non-aligned, which can't be gotten without exploits)

  • Improved previous focus localisations

  • Added names to all surface ships, tanks and tank variants which did not have names in the current base game

  • Readded "Alt for Norge!" into the Haakon VII national spirit localisation

  • Reworked how the "Join the Axis" and "Join the Comintern" focuses work. Now they add a non-aggression pact, improve relations and AI willingness to ally (as opposed to instantly adding you to their faction like before, which was silly)

  • Made the fascist tree more open, letting you get cores on your neighbours while going "Join the Axis", but also buffed "Norway First" by letting you "Invite Terboven" and create "Festung Norwegen" if at peace with Germany, and also added some political power to it.

  • Buffed the Communist tree, now all historical cores on your neighbours are unlocked by the "Unite the Scandinavian Workers!" focus.

  • Added an event chain between Norway and Finland should you side with the Soviets when in the Nordic Faction

  • Added Norsk Hydro logo by Thinking_waffle

Fixes and balancing

  • Production nerfs to the naval idea (spikes at Nortraship, then falls off when you start making specialized ships)

  • Army commander rebalance. Fleischer and Ruge are now both field marhalls due to their high ranks, and due to being the only theater commanders during the historical war (Ruge in southern Norway, Fleischer in northern Norway). Also gave them appropriate traits, same for Birger Eriksen which was added (the engineer trait is an abstraction of him being involved with the development of new shooting methods from his time at the Military Academy, but the only trait which has to do with shells and ballistics in the game were meant for a certain Polish bear, so...)

  • Fixes to Estonia and Ireland joining the Nordic faction while at war, and staying in the war while switching faction. Now they get a choice to pull out of the war and switch faction, which the AI will accept less often than if they were not in a faction

  • Fixed the pressure Finland focus/event for those without TfV

  • Rebalanced army experience in the Army branch of the focus tree
