Version 1.4.2a - Small hotfix to update the colors-file and cosmetic-file (1.12.* Avalanche compatible)

Balance and fixes

  • Updated the colors-file and cosmetic-file in the common/countries-folder for Avalanche and its additions.

Update: 10 Oct, 2022 @ 1:25pm

Version 1.4.2 - Update for By Blood Alone/Avalanche, small event, map and localisation improvements (1.12.* Avalanche compatible)

Content

  • Updated for the newest HoI IV version (1.12.* By Blood Alone/Avalanche compatible.) Some examples include integration of the new map and building graphics placements into the map-files, updates to the bookmark-files and corrected starting technologies.

Localisation
  • Improved and updated the localisation files. Imported some spelling improvements from R56, as well as improved some spelling and language on top of this. State numbers also updated.

  • Updated the bookmarks (1936 and 1939) to get the new bookmarks for Switzerland, Italy and Ethiopia, while also keeping NaW's Norway specific bookmark entries in place like before.

Balance and fixes
  • Improved the targeting of tag and tag-relational options in two events (e.g. GER and SOV should no longer have the wrong options selectable in some events they get.)

  • Removed now non-used and/or non-existant starting technologies for three country history files. Integrated all relevant checks for the BBA DLC to the history files.

  • Removed Air Force/Air Wings from the standard unit-files, so the newly added base game air unit-files (BBA or legacy) can handle that as intended.

  • Improved building graphics placements for radar stations, an air base, etc. in two Swedish states.

  • Renamed thumbnail image (and descriptor-file path) in an ongoing effort to standardize my mods, and to ensure it can be updated smoothly if the need arises in the future.

Update: 8 Feb, 2022 @ 4:44pm

Version 1.4.1b - Minor localisation update, leader descriptions added again, other polish (1.11.* Barbarossa compatible)

Localisation

  • Leader descriptions for all Norwegian country leaders are now in again after figuring out how to do it for the new character system. The old leader descriptions seen some versions ago can once again be read in-game. Also removed some redundant localisation to tidy up the localisation files.

  • Improved the "Changing Turmoil" (timed) idea's localisation/description.

Update: 6 Feb, 2022 @ 5:55pm

Version 1.4.1a - Moderately large feature and polishing update, Nortraship events and many small improvements (1.11.* Barbarossa compatible)

Content

  • Autonomy reduction effects added to railroad decisions for improving/electrifying railroads in certain subjects.

  • The new state highlighting system for decisions is now in, so states should once again be highlighted when hoovering over decisions and the decisions can be taken on the map as well.

  • Added some basic repair speed, refit cost, refit speed and/or naval equipment experience cost modifiers/buffs to the Norwegian Ship Designer choices.

  • Four Nortraship related events have been added, with new event pictures and triggers through the focus tree integrated. There is one standard event upon establishing the trade mission/ship administration, and different news events on historical merchant fleet coordination with the United Kingdom, merchant fleet coordination with Germany if the UK attacks you first and forces you to side with Germany, and lastly one for coordinating with Germany after aligning with them by choice through the focus tree.

  • New introductory event to the Armed Neutrality focus with light effects inserted before the existing news events about this and eventual violations of said neutrality. Also includes new event pictures and the possibility for the Armed Neutrality event through the neutral focus in the monarchist branch as well.

  • The historical Armed Neutrality focus now also raises your economic mobilisation laws by one level for free if you're in one of the two lower economic mobilisation laws. In conjunction with the earlier buff to decision effect speed for seeking alliances, as well as the current increased flavor, this should make the truly historical path more eniticing to pick.

  • Added three new news event pictures and four new standard event pictures. Most of them are now in use in old events and new events for this update.

  • Added new military advisor portrait/picture for Haakon VII.

  • Added a new military advisor portrait/picture for Otto Ruge.

Localisation
  • New localisation for new stuff, mainly new events and event descriptions.

  • Fixed/added the description of the news event for revising the Treaty of Kiel.

  • Continued work on adding base game advisor tooltips to relevant focuses, and used the old NaW tooltips for further clarification/details.

  • Slight addition to the Haakon VII abdicates event description.

  • Some fixes to targeted localisation and other improvements.

Balance and fixes
  • State reintegration decisions can now also be taken with no resistance in the states, as an alternative to the earlier 20%+ compliance requirement. This should enable states with no cores of other countries for reintegration again as well.

  • Easter Egg country's land reintegration decision now targets another state which I found made more sense. Decision name and description also reworked.

  • Easter Egg country now has their characters recruited through their history file, like intended.

  • Iceland's potential "Norwegian Advisors"-idea now has one additional percent of recruitable population, to increase the significance of adding this to Iceland as a subject slightly. Also changed the icon used for the idea.

  • Reworked some old ideas and a focus into a new naming scheme/my intended naming scheme, should not affect saved games unless the "Establish Heimevernet" focus has been done, then "doublestacking the idea" may be possible. To avoid remove one of them with console commands after this has happened, or simply don't do the focus again.

  • Added ahead of time bonuses (1 year) to the research bonuses for light ship hulls/cruiser hulls in the "Modern Escort Ships" focus. Reduced existing ahead of time bonuses (2 years --> 1 year) in the research bonuses for the "Medium Aircraft" focus.

  • Eased up on requirements for the "A Beacon among Democracies" focus, and eased up on requirements for the fascist path in general so it's harder to get locked out of stuff due to other countries' choices.

  • More advisor tooltips in line with base game functionality.

  • More AI considerations for focuses.

  • Other slight focus cleanups.

  • More sensible event picture for the news event on revising the Treaty of Kiel.

  • Small interface reworks to make working with the custom graphical assets easier.

  • Destroyer procurements now show up in Stavanger instead of Kristiansand, which is a better compromise between the UK and Germany location wise.

  • Improved building/radar graphic placement in Båhuslen/Bohuslän state. Otherwise updated buildings file to be in line with the base game where the mod makes no edits (to remove the error that popped up recently.)

Update: 10 Jan, 2022 @ 5:00pm

Version 1.4.1 - Large feature update and polish, Railroad Development, tech sharing and more (1.11.* Barbarossa compatible)

Content

  • Added new traits, especially personality traits, to some Norwegian commanders to be more fair with them. Now every commander has some starting traits at least.

  • Jacob Ager Laurantzon now starts as a field marshal rather than a general to represent his high rank and seniority.

  • Reworked "Marinens Hovedverft" to incorporate some of the historical torpedo and torpedo patrol boat priorities they had at the time. Also added some decent submarine bonuses, so it now has a general-purpose coastal defense feel to it. Reduced the surface visibility bonus on cruisers/screens a bit to compensate for their attack buffs.

  • Added a new decision category, "Railroad Development" with about 17 decisions which may be available depending on circumstances. These become available after the first railroad focus, and are integrated with both focuses. It counts your overall railroad development, and new projects and (state) benefits become available at higher levels. They cost a lot of industry, but you can build, improve, re-gauge, electrify and extend railroads, in decisions that can be historical, plausible and/or ahistorical. Some plausible ones arguably should have been historical.

  • Added two new dynamic modifiers for states that go with the "Railroad Development"-decisions.

  • Added new technology sharing group for the monarchist path, enabled through decisions after some political focuses. These have their own events, effects, decisions for improving the facilities and decisions for inviting even more members after the initial creation.

  • Added a few cooperation decisions with Iceland for them in the same faction and/or a subject state of Norway. Also added a new news event related to one of these.

  • Added two new event pictures, one news event and one standard event.

  • Added two new opinion modifiers used in some of the new decisions/events.

Localisation
  • Added localisation for all new additions, such as events.

  • Switched the localisation between the reintegration of Jamtland and Båhuslen, which was the wrong way around for the flavor text (though effects worked as intended.) These should now be less confusing.

  • Renamed starting VP in Båhulsen/Bohuslän, was Marstrand, is now Uddevalla which is far bigger and more important, especially economically. This outweighs the VP's location within the province by a lot. As long as the VP is within the correct province, I find it acceptable.

  • Fixed and improved spelling, tag-targeters in the localisation, word use, punctuation-/parenthesis use and made more liberal use of the often superior to TAG.GetName, ROOT.GetName and FROM.GetName where sensible.

  • Added unique subject name for non-aligned Finland as subject of non-aligned Norway, somewhat inspired by EU IV and the geographic situation.

  • Further improved readability of focuses through better formatting and further improved tooltips. Also tided up the readability of the "Ski Infantry"-unique tech when it's mentioned.

  • Tidied up file formatting and in-file comments.

  • Renamed a couple of focuses and ideas, both their names, and in some cases their ID. NaW should have a more concise focus-/idea-naming system now. If stuck with seeming duplicates upon loading save it can be fixed with console commands and maybe debug-mode if needed. You may ask me for help if needed.

Balance and fixes
  • Reworked priorities for decision categories.

  • The "Armed Neutrality"-decisions which petition major powers for an alliance now send the request-event even faster to make them more useful (as opposed to just trying to join factions by waiting for an invite from a major power like the United Kingdom.) Events asking to join their faction are now sent in just three hours instead of six hours like earlier.

  • Reworked the old naval idea line, now less convoy (production) spam, and instead gave them some max speed improvements to represent the modern Norwegian Merchant fleet at the time: Convoy Production cost -25% --> -10%, Convoy Max Speed +0% --> +10%.

  • The late game idea for monarchist Norway, "Preserving the Kingdom" now still lets you send volunteers without a huge army, and to continue its defensive nature, we now have 20% reduced damage to garrisons in it too.

  • Tanks will never be the strength of Norway in this mod, we're sticking with simply a generic designer. But according to the flavor text on "Thunes Mekaniske Verksted", I figured a 5% production bonus to trains for flavor reasons was alright. If wanting super strong tanks, license production from major countries may be the go to solution.

  • Naval industry for Western Norway in the Nortraship-/Naval Production-focus line now moved one focus down. Requirements have also been reworked on both relevant focuses.

  • Focus idea-giving/combining in the Naval Production-line should now be more readable.

  • Improved focus search filters further.

  • All Norwegian technology sharing groups now somewhat more limited in base membership availability, though being in faction with Norway or a subject of them will always be enough. Also reworked the tech sharing picture to the one with the crown both for the Allied path and the Royal Norwegian Society used in the monarchist path, for more visual variation and topical visuals.

  • Massively improved the old technology sharing events for the Nordic, Allied, German and Soviet technology sharing groups. Now much more sensible targets/effects, use of FROM/ROOT rather than specified tags and updating to the Allied research, German research and Soviet research from the old functions which added you to the existing Commonwealth, Axis and/or Comintern research groups. Now those are totally removed, and a unique cooperative between Norway and the other major power is always used instead.

  • Fixed radar location in Vestlandet, Sørlandet and Jamtland, so it's centered on the radar effect location. Tweaked supply node graphic in a province in Sørlandet to make room for it.

  • Moved the airport/airbase in Østlandet to the location of Fornebu Airport, Norway's main airport from 1939 until many decades later, e.g. the south-western part of the capital province of Oslo in-game.

  • General improvement of building graphic placements in Østlandet for coastal buildings and the fuel silo, in addition to the airport location and graphics. Now the naval bases, dockyard and coastal forts should provide one of the better mixes of historical and "nice to look at" possible.

  • Added in one of the earlier Otto Ruge portaits used, as in R56 Otto Ruge had accidentally been using Carl Johan Erichsen's portrait for a while. Carl Johan Erichsen now instead got his new updated portrait, while Otto Ruge got his.

Update: 27 Dec, 2021 @ 4:40pm

Version 1.4.0b - Character and advisor additions/improvements, tooltip and flavor update (1.11.* Barbarossa compatible)

Content

  • Added three new characters with political advisor roles, so historical ones with AI logic and requirements for use can take the place of random generic ones given by the game at start.

  • Tried to handle widespread character loss, especially advisor loss, on a civil war for Norway. Now should at least keep the two bread and butter Field Marshals/Army Chiefs and some focus given Corps Commanders in every case/almost every case.

  • Reworked many focus tooltips regarding political advisors, added in direct links to the advisors themselves in these cases before the reworked NaW tooltips with additional information. Now things are in line with vanilla HoI IV, very clean and nice, and comes with generally all relevant information.

  • Improved graphics use and AI logic on other characters/advisors.

  • New company idea IDs so they all follow the same scheme for IDs, with country tag first.

  • Added 12 plausible Norwegian agent names from R56 to NaW too, and added 14 additional historical ones before those, inspired by cover names for (Norwegian) agents working for XU, Milorg and/or SOE during the Second World War. With the La Résistance DLC and an agent you will see these in use from now on.

  • Added four new unit name lists, Cavalry Regiment (starting list, also in use at the start), Jäger Division (unlocked by focus), Monarchist Infantry Divisions and Monarchist Mobile Divisions (both unlocked by focus, and ideology-dependent.)

  • Some new name lists used by starting templates/units or units given through focuses. Cleaned up starting unit history files.

  • Improved focus search filters to be even more accurate and helpful.

  • Added a new VP/city to Vestlandet, Haugesund.

Localisation
  • Rewrote some older NaW focus tooltips to fit with the base game advisor unlocking tooltips now added to certain places in the focus tree for clarity.

  • Improved focus localisation and character localisation.

  • Moved a VP to replace loc file and removed redundant/unused tooltip.

  • Renamed the loc files themselves.

Balance and fixes
  • Shortened some focuses to give the player and AI Norway some breathing room to get things done: Coastal Defense Specialization 105 days --> 70 days, Modern Escort Ships 70 days --> 35 days, Mountaineers 70 days --> 35 days and District Investments 70 days --> 35 days.

  • District Investments' bonus for dispersed industry technologies can now also be used for excavation techs, so it's not completely wasted if deciding to go for concentrated industry.

  • Railway from Østlandet to Vestlandet ("Raumabanen") given to Norway through "De norske Statsbaner"-focus now also level two like the minimum of all other Norwegian railways after the two railway focuses. It was quite modern, and not of bad quality.

  • Fixed bug where cascading effects could instantly remove Aftermath of the Great Depression, rather than in several steps as intended.

  • Cleaned up commanders given by focuses potentially being given to both sides during civil wars. Tried to ensure they're now only given to one side if in a civil war (that side being the player/NOR-tag.)

  • Focus file cleanup, more use of base (ai_will_do), effect sorting, etc.

  • Now the late game "Specialized Naval Industry"-ideas no longer retain the consumer goods buff from the "Encouraged Fishing"-idea, since they already carry other powerful (and specialized) bonuses.

  • Rebalanced "National Collectivism"- and "Socialist Collectivism"-ideas. Now no pop growth, general building speed and ideology drift, but extra resources, production retention and infrastructure building speed instead. Should be less awkward if in faction with or a subject of other ideologies. The relevant focuses now also give timed generic fascist-/communist drift ideas instead.

  • Fixed event province targeting for Orkney, now uses the correct province rather than the R56-addition that doesn't exist in the base game.

  • Removed double country leader entry on the event for who shall lead the monarchist coalition after the civil war.

  • VP/city renaming event made better for one option.

  • Added a touch of political power to each side in the Norwegian Monarchist Civil War to get them started, especially important now that a civil war dragging out will really cripple non-aligned/monarchist Norway's political power gain due to the new country leader added.

  • Moved an airbase in Norrland to where it was supposed to be. Added supply nodes (supply node graphics) to some states that hadn't been given such yet.

  • Better descriptor-file handling.

Update: 18 Dec, 2021 @ 2:23pm

Version 1.4.0a - Small graphical update, added focus shines to fix glitches, new crisp focus icons and other small improvements (1.11.* Barbarossa compatible)

Content

  • Added several new focus icons. In use now: A new Army-, Navy- and Air Force Coat of Arms, with a much more crisp, shaded and detailed look, compared to the old similar ones.

  • The non-aligned Norway flags (both large and medium) have been polished to look nicer, especially now that they're due to be ported to R56 as well.

  • Changed Alfred Roscher Lund's advisor portrait to be more accurate, and fixed the spelling of his name.

  • Renamed old country leader trait file and added a new one for traits imported from R56.

  • Ported Liberal Grandee trait from R56 so country leaders don't have less traits in NaW in comparison.

Localisation
  • Localisation additions for a new tech bonus and imported R56 trait added.

Balance and fixes
  • Added an interface_shine-file, so focus graphics should no longer occasionally glitch away.

  • Cleaned up naming in the interface files so the mod's easier to update and improve in the future. Also renamed some focus/goal graphical assets.

  • Changed complete_effect to remove_effect in one of the new 1.4.0-decisions added.

  • Removed early ahead of time bonuses for air techs, now they come later instead, where it makes more sense to have them.

  • Added a few new ahead of time bonuses for certain research boosts, most importantly on Norway's one nuclear tech boost, so now it's useful for rushing one nuclear tech at least.

  • Tweaked the "Resurrect Norsk Aeroplanfabrik" focus to now give potential research bonuses to bomber planes in general (CAS, NAV and tactical) rather than just CAS.

  • Light file formatting cleanup.

Update: 16 Dec, 2021 @ 6:01pm

Version 1.4.0 - Large Barbarossa/No Step Back update, with catch up to the R56-version, features and polish (1.11.* Barbarossa compatible)

Content

  • Updated all files for 1.11.* Barbarossa/No Step Back.

  • Integrated graphics and features to catch up to the R56-version the R56-team and I have been working on.

  • Created a character file, ported information over, set everything up properly and polished it to the max.

  • Additions, improvements and new stuff to the focus-, idea- and decisions-files. Five new focuses, two new endgame ideas and integrated historical railroad improvments into relevant focuses are some of the highlights.

  • Updated the bookmark-files with the newest Barbarossa/NSB additions.

  • Tons of event work, now the event chain for combining the Nordic and Baltic factions should be solidly written, handling most realistic and semi-realistic situations.

  • The Moscow Trials-event now also have updated checks to trigger to account for the new Soviet focus tree.

  • Sorted out the flags once and for all.

  • Created another "nor"-country folder in both gfx/interface/goals/... and gfx/interface/ideas/... and moved focuses/goals and ideas into those like this mod's files in R56 to ensure smoother work between both mods. With enough changes like this, updates and work between the mods should happen both faster and smoother over time.

  • Interface-file graphical paths updated to reflect the above asset movement.

  • State and map updates.

  • Edited files in map/supplyareas, and the supplyareas-folder itself, now deleted as they were no longer needed after the supply system overhaul that came with Barbarossa/NSB.

  • Small file formatting improvements and cleanup.

Localisation
  • General localisation work, with additions for all the new contents added.

  • Basic loc moved to replacement loc where duplication with the base game made it not show up.

  • Better word choices and more punctuation in existing loc where needed/desired.

Balance and fixes
  • The unique Norwegian tactic now gets increased trigger chance for cavalry leader too, like the infantry leader already had, since the in-game essentially fights very much like infantry (dismounting then fighting like infantry.) The tactic now also reduce the damage of enemy attackers a bit more too, to make it feel a bit more worthwhile than many (but not all) of the current (HoI IV) base game's tactics. It's now also countered by the Encirclement tactic rather than Well-Planned Attack. Now bringing a full front, reserves and a good/fitting commander are actions that can be taken to counter/negate the advantageous tactic, rather than the more one-dimensional counter of picking Grand Battle Plan doctrine and hoping for the best like before.

  • Re-added the base game cosmetic-file to ensure NaW's added cosmetic tag works again. The standalone file like before turned out to be unreliable, so re-adding a modified base game file seemed the best for now.

  • Fixed 1939 history-file's specification of finished focuses for Norway at that point by updating the focuses to the new names added for an earlier patch for R56 and NaW.

  • Tweaked files and added graphical assets to ensure the generic planes with Norwegian roundels work properly in this version as well.

Update: 4 Nov, 2020 @ 4:43pm

Version 1.3.7 - Sizeable update, general improvements/fixes, R56 readiness, R56 features and new original content (1.10.* Collie compatible)

Content

  • Added new generic 3D plane meshes with Norwegian roundels for Norway, thanks to Thinking_waffle.

  • New focus icons mainly thanks to the R56 team, and a little bit thanks to me.

  • Made use of some of Paradox' crisp new focus icons for certain focuses that could do with them. The Monarchist branch is now prettier than ever.

  • Motion of No Confidence now gives you an event and a choice for who should lead the Conservatives and be Prime Minister of Norway. This is an old request by Nonjojålol/Njawl, which have now been added for your enjoyment.

  • New possible country leader from event mentioned above.

Localisation
  • Improved many localisation and focus IDs for easier management and future work for me and the R56 team. Some focuses that are completed may be lost if in a game. If so use the console command to finish "the new one" (should look and do the same for the most part) to solve.

  • Improved many old localisations, with fresher language. Example "Join the Allies" --> "Seek a British Alliance", "Lasting Policy of Disarmament" --> "Enduring Policy of Disarmament" and "Construct More Hydro Plants!" --> "Hydroelectric Power Generation".

  • Added more text to certain focuses that were shortchanged, mainly technology sharing focuses.

  • Localisation for all newly added features, including country leader.

  • Removed redundant linebreak at the start of some focus tooltip localisations regarding unlocking advisors.

Balance and fixes
  • Added R56 style naval gear bonuses (if using MtG) for where relevant. Currently on the submarine and capital ship focuses.

  • Added some naval experience to the naval branch where relevant.

  • Nerfed the consumer goods on the Naval Industry line a bit. Specialized Naval Industry now costs you a tiny bit of consumer goods rather than giving you more.

  • Added stability focus filter on focuses that lose you stability too, not just gain, as that effect on stability may also be interesting to know.

  • Bicycle Battalions are no longer limited by DLC.

  • The King's Choice decision now limited to him being the active ruler, not just the ruler of a party (alternatively having him as the idea/national spirit/figurehead still works too).

  • Moved the Norwegian Kingdom cosmetic tag to its own unique file, for added compatibility with other mods, and less work to update the mod in the future. It's also just cleaner to do it like that.

  • Smarter restrictions/availability checks for certain tech sharing focuses. Also smarter checks for the Icelandic-Faroese Revolt and other focuses. Much kudos to the R56 team, some to me.

  • Non-gameplay altering: Moved the search filters in the focus file to after the completion effects for easier file merging and exchange with R56 in the future.

Update: 30 Oct, 2020 @ 2:18pm

Version 1.3.6a - Collie hotfix update (1.10.* Collie compatible)

Balance and fixes

  • Updated the state references in the Norwegian focus file as well, which I'd somehow missed.
